Jami did the videography for our wedding at Castle Green in 2008. She was WONDERFUL! In fact, I had decided not to do videography at the wedding after reviewing a number of terrible, cheesy video samples, but then I found Jami. Her work is classy, tasteful, and timeless. She captured every special moment of the day. My whole family loves Jami's work -- my dad is actually the most obsessed with it and watched the video a bunch of times after the wedding. We watch the video instead of going through the photographs because it brings us back to the day instantly. Although, I will also add that Jami did give us a number of still images from her video work that are also beautiful and artistic. One other thing worth mentioning is that she was very professional onsite while shooting and didn't get in everyone's faces to get her shots. She was there, but she was discreet and still managed to capture beautiful images. My sister is getting married this spring and is going to have Jami video her wedding. I cannot recommend Jami more highly. Trust me, Jami's video will be your favorite keepsake!

My wife and I used Mark Steven Photography for our wedding in 2013 and are STILL enjoying the photos. When we first encountered Mark, he was full of ideas, locations, samples, etc. that made his selection process easy. Once selected, the communication was always open and available. He is The day of shooting (I can only speak on my experience and what I heard from my wife). Me and my groomsmen had such a blast shooting with Mark. The poses were fun, they were good AND MY WIFE LOVED THEM (which is the most important thing)!!!! My wife also mentioned to me that during her "prep" process with her Bridesmaids, they didn't even know he was there and still got some great quality shots! As for the finished product, there are still pictures that blow my mind! His price is very affordable, the picture quality is terrific, he was on time and kept the schedule, and just an all around true professional! I would 100% recommend his services and connections and will use Mark Steven Photography again in the future!

Hiring Attis Photography for our wedding was one of the best decisions my wife and I made. We met with so many photographers, but Attis definitely stood apart from the rest. Anita is extremely organized and will get out of you exactly what you're looking for. Chris takes beautiful photos and has great attention to detail. We hired them for both our engagement photos and our wedding photos, and they did an amazing job on both. If I could go back, I would absolutely hire them again. And I definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a wedding photographer.

We hired Mark to be our videographer for our April 10 wedding. Mark has always been very responsive to my messages and questions. He provided us with great detail of his services and what he would be doing. When the time came to film our wedding he was very prompt and easy to work with. We felt very comfortable working with him and he faded in nicely working with the photographer. He caputered all the details of our wedding very well. We got our highlight and raw footage video very quickly after the wedding. When it was time to watch the highlight video we thought the night was put together beautifully. The way it all flowed together with our choice of music and the different highlighted points of our special day was amazing! It was very beautifully done! A tear jerker too :). I would highly recommend Mark to be your videographer at your wedding. You most definitely won't be disappointed.

Brandon was hired to do videography for my wedding. He was professional and knowledgable. I saw his previous work and based off that work I felt confident that hiring him I would get a good product and something that I could look back on BUT what I got was so much more!!! Brandon is very skilled and is more of an artist than anything; his eye for detail and editing skills made my video look as though it was a professional music video in fact that's exactly what it was a professional video. He is not an amateur and if you hire him you will be given a keepsake and an heirloom that you will pass down to your great great great great grandkids! I can not thank him enough. The whole wedding experience flies by so, the best decision you will make for you wedding is hiring Brandon so you can relive the experience over and over again.

Media Focus, Inc. is great! they were so involved with our wedding. They were at our vendor meeting and stayed in constant contact with us. They help develop your wedding concept for the video. It felt like we were making a movie. They were very nice and professional. They were filming everything. We never once had to ask them to "make sure and film this", They were already filming it. I was very honored to have them film my wedding. You wont regret working with them. Thanks Hiro and Mae for everything you have done for us. Look forward to working with you in the future as well.

I met with Kristen to plan the photography experience for my Wedding in 2013. I was impressed by her willingness to create the exact experience me & my husband wanted. Kristen is a extremely talented photographer/ videographer and she has the artistic eye for sure. Me & my husband and my family have enjoyed viewing the wedding photos and videos she comprised and I have gone on to use her in my small business venture as well. I'm in Love with her infectious smile and enthusiasm for her work and how it helps people. I recently referred a close friend who needed a short film created for his non-profit entity. I'm happy to recommend Kristin Hastings.

This person was so amazing. She took the best video of my wife and i’s wedding day! Not only was the footage great, but she was extremely professional and a pleasure to be around. My wife loved her personality, which made it very easy to act natural when someone is filming them. She got videos of things that I didn’t even get to experience myself as the groom, so watching back again was like a new experience in itself. Her prices are great for the amazing quality I received. I would recommend her for any event, photo and video. We hired her for video, but she took better pictures than the photographer we hired. Thank you Danyell! 5 stars all the way.

I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about Just Love Films. From their positive attitude and professionalism to their stunning talent, I could not have chosen a more wonderful videographer. Our wedding day was stressful from the start, but as soon as Just Love Films got there and started filming video I felt like things were falling into place. I was already assured of Just Love Films considerable talent after seeing videos on their website, which I loved! But when I got the highlights video I was brought to tears. They managed to capture not only the best moments, but the spirit and energy of the best day of my life! Thank you

This company made us a very beautiful 35 minute documentary style film. It was very well edited. The quality of the videos are great. Our highlight video was amazing as well. If we had to do it all over we would have chosen package 2 instead of package 1, but that's all we could afford for our video budget. I highly recommend this company for wedding videography. Extremely easy to work with.

Tim Fox was absolutely one of the best vendors we worked with for our wedding- my mom has already talked about wanting Tim to film all of the rest of our family weddings down the road! Tim put together both a longer video and a shorter video very shortly after our wedding. After he shared the videos with us, he was very open to any feedback we had and to making adjustments to the videos. Tim was kind and extremely patient with us throughout this process, and he moved things along quickly. He also put together a video of our entire ceremony, which we are so grateful to have. After our wedding, many of our guests commented that they didn't even realize we had a videographer that night- Tim was extremely professional and captured all of the events and tiny details of the day in such a natural way. This really allowed us to enjoy the day without having to worry about making things look a certain way on the video. I really can't say enough about how wonderful Tim is to work with and highly recommend him for wedding videography-we are thrilled with our videos and truly enjoyed meeting and working with Tim.

My boyfriend and I moved to Los Angeles in January. We decided to order an engagement photo shoot. Since we did not have any friends in LA, and we had no one to consult with, we were looking for help. We chose the Right Wedding Company. The guys were very polite and professional. They made wonderful pictures and video. I'm very delighted with the results!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
