I've been taking guitar and singing lessons with David for a few months, and I've got to say I've had a really great time learning from him! David is an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable teacher who clearly cares about his students and their goals, and better still has played and performed with the artists that I like best. It took me a while to find a teacher who was willing to teach me the music I wanted to play instead of starting with their core competence, so it was really refreshing that within a month or two with plenty of practice I was able to learn one of my favorite songs (Three Rounds and a Sound by Blind Pilot, if you're curious), and a little longer to start singing it, which I was really stoked about. He has been great about breaking things down when the piece we're working on is too challenging. David has also pushed me to pursue my goal of creating music, helping along the way to create melodies and lyrics. I have to say, it takes a great teacher to get me to sing and to share lyrics with them (do you know how embarrassing that can be?). I could go on, but suffice it to say, David is a great teacher, and I'm really glad I started taking lessons with him.
I feel grateful for finding Garrick on Thumbtack! He has taught my 8 year old son, who is a beginner at guitar. Garrick's infectious love for life and music has really inspired my son. He has offered a great mix of fun and technique during lessons and my son was quickly able to play songs and enjoy playing his instrument. I would highly recommend Garrick as a teacher.
Sedat is an excellent teacher for my 10 year old. He has lots of patience and knows how to teach kids. He is able to help with easier ways to teach chords and makes the class enjoyable. My child loves his class and he encourages to pick their favorite songs to play. I would highly recommend Sedat for kids guitar lessons.
I would recommend Dylan to anyone looking for guitar lessons for themselves and their children! He is wonderfully patient and very knowledgeable. He will work with you on any song you like and use it to teach technique and theory, thus making it a lot more interesting. We moved about 1.5 hours away and still prefer making the trek for lessons over finding someone local to us!
I have nothing but positive things to say about both Yaelisa and Jason and my experience with Caminos Flamencos. I have been taking flamenco guitar lessons with Jason for a bit over a year now. He is a master musician and his command of rhythm, technique, theory and harmony are second to none. Seriously, YouTube him and see for yourself! And just as important, he is a fantastic teacher. He really knows how to help you grow as a musician and reach your potential, and he cares about his students, so he's actually pushing you for your own good. Every session is a blast, always inspiring and I always come back improved from last time. I have also been accompanying some of Yaelisa's beginner / intermediate classes as a guitarist. The same values mentioned above for Jason apply to her as well (birds of a feather flock together!). She has amazing compás, and provides an incredibly solid foundation for her students, and for me, as a guitarist. She really cares about her students and it's been great to see students progress each week. I know my rhythm and ability to accompany has improved leaps and bounds thanks to her. I am getting an incredible foundation. Whether you're looking to begin your flamenco journey or take it to the next level, Yaelisa and Jason are your ticket!
I have been taking guitar lessons from Jules for several months and am very happy with how much I have learned. All his lessons have educational purposes and he teaches through fun songs that make practicing enjoyable. He is very professional, knowledgeable and flexible with my schedule. I highly recommend him for beginners and experienced players alike. Susan
I'm a beginner to guitar, having played a little piano and drums before. Been working with Chris for a few weeks now and it has been a blast. He's a talented musician who is connected to the music scene. I wanted a guitar teacher who was connected to the local music scene, and so I've really enjoyed working with Chris and even going to see his band perform. I also love how Chris walks through songs and is able to write out the tabs and chords on the fly, and then on top of that show me multiple ways of playing the same song. Highly recommend.
John is super patient with me. I'm a total beginner to music/guitar, so definitely a plus! You can see he is passionate about music and I can't wait to see the progress I'm going to make with him!
My 12 year old son has been taking classical guitar lessons from Matt for a year and a half. Matt is an extremely patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging teacher. He is great at creating a relaxed and comfortable environment in which to learn and I appreciate how clear he is on what my son is supposed to practice each week. I have no reservations about giving Matt a 5 star rating. Our experiences with him have been outstanding.
I am a bass player who has always played guitar here and there but nothing too serious, and about a year ago decided I really want to know the fundשmentals of guitar. A friend recommended Jacob Light, whom I've heard play before in local bands, and I decided to take the chance. I wasn't dissapointed to say the least. Jacob is a really down to earth guy who immediately understood my musical style and focused mainly on what I wanted to know, unlike other teachers I've had experience with. Even so, he knew what subjects to insist I learn, like improvisation. and scales. all this was done in a friendly, calm, cool yet persistent atmosphere which is just the right blend for learning, in my opinion.Soon enough I started feeling I really understand guitar, and this new kno'ledge even helped me with my bass guitar playing. Ive been taking guitar lessons with Jacon for 6 months and the only downdise I can think of is the fact he moved to California, otherwise I would have still take lessons from him, without a doubt.
My 10-year old son has been taking guitar lessons with Groovy Judy for over 2 years now. Over that time, he has learned to play quite well, but most importantly, he loves his lesson time with Groovy Judy! She relates really well with children and makes the lessons lots of fun! We are so happy to have found her as a guitar teacher!
About a year ago, I got the hare-brained idea that it might be fun to take up a new hobby, namely electric bass. I had never held one, let alone made a note with one. But I liked the challenge of learning to play an instrument in an ensemble, figuring the worst thing that would happen would be that I hated it and would have to find something else to do with my limited spare time. And I thought it would be pretty cool to be able to start from nothing and end up being able to figure out how songs go and actually play in a band. I found Jerry's ad online and responded, letting him know I was an absolute green beginner, that I wasn't young and that I didn't even own a bass. And was totally impressed with the thoughtful and thorough response I received from him, which was the first of many thorough and thoughtful responses he has given me over the 10 months I've been taking weekly lessons. I took Jerry up on his free lesson offer, and he hung one of his basses on me and got me to make some notes so I could get a rudimentary feel for the instrument. Then we talked a lot about what all I would need to buy, and the choice of deciding to go left or right (I am left-handed but went right because I didn't want to wait for a Lefty version of the bass I wanted). A few thoughts about what I've learned/am learning from Jerry: He gave me invaluable guidance in purchasing a first instrument, steering me away from oddball choices and major music retailers, and I ended up with an axe I love to pick up and an amp that complements it (yeah, a few other items, too). When I feel I need something new (i.e. a stand, a gig bag, a recording device, etc), he shares his opinions and sources for acquiring items reliably and at reasonable cost. He emphasizes technique and exercises, but got me started on real songs that illustrated the concepts I was learning early on, so I was actually playing music sooner than I thought I would be... and that was pretty exciting! In short, Jerry makes the work worth it. He covers theory to the extent that it can help me navigate the instrument and help me figure out songs I want to play. Sometimes I wonder how I got so far in life without learning more about what makes music work, because it is fascinating. He gives pointers and evaluations that are fair and helpful and does not teach down to me. One of my biggest fears in searching for a teacher was ending up with one who would give me material that was dull or too pedestrian, or would stop challenging me when I got frustrated with my abilities. Or was a jerk when I couldn't play something perfectly right off the bat. There are many things I am still learning, but I work on lots of different songs, some of which are more difficult for me than others. Some that were nearly impossible for me a few months back are now sounding OK. Jerry pushes me when he thinks I am ready to try more, but takes me back to the basics of technique or theory when I seem to be floundering. I don't consider learning to play the bass a sprint...it's a marathon. I could not possibly hope to master it in the 10 months I've been learning. Jerry's been able to bring me this far in less than a year; I'll keep going, because it's already enjoyable to play along with songs that I've heard on the radio or are part of my musical library. It will be really trippy when (with a big of luck) I'm playing in a band.
Roland is a great teacher. He is a dedicated musician with a high level of technical ability and a great amount of patience. Not only is he great at what he does, but he is also great at teaching others. I would recommend Roland Sayn to any beginner, intermediate, or advanced guitar player looking to grow.
Geoff has been a terrific teacher in the 10 weeks since I've hired him. I was a complete beginner with guitar, and on my first class, he went to the guitar store with me to help me buy one, adding an extra hour to the class for free. He had also been so patient and helpful throughout my classes with him, and he doesn't watch the clock making sure he finishes on time. He makes sure we finish the lesson. He also asks you for songs you like and teaches you those, making it much more enjoyable.
Mark has been teaching our daughter for three years. She was only 10 years old when she started and was full of questions and hopes of instant mastery. Mark was really patient, answering her questions and building success into each week to sustain her morale while she learned that it doesn't happen overnight. While she is still on the road to mastery, she has grown a trust in Mark to let him set the pace. He reciprocates by encouraging her to practice and influence the pace. I also enjoy that Mark has the flexibility to work with our daughter. His approach allows her to pick some song she likes. He can listen to the song and adapt it into a relevant lesson or teach her the chords and allow her to learn the song. This mixed with the variety of classics and Christian pop songs will make for a well-rounded skill set for our daughter. I have the opportunity each week to watch one of Mark's long time students play and am really impressed at his comfort and skill playing a variety of styles.
Patient, knowledgeable and willing to customize lessons to skills and experience. Highly recommend GG for beginners and experienced students alike!
It has been some 5+ years that I have had the privilege to be one of Peppino's students. Having laid down my guitar for over 20 years before I met Peppino, I was a little apprehensive to start up again with someone as talented and gifted as Peppino. With an abundance of patience and guidance, Peppino was able to knock some of the rust off my fingers and reawaken my love for the guitar. Peppino has the unique ability to take his students beyond what they thought they were capable of and introduce them to a whole new level of musicianship. He is able to cater his teaching to the needs of each individual student; be they beginner, intermediate, or advanced guitarist. I am truly grateful for all that Peppino has given me so far, and hope to continue under his instruction.
I started taking guitar lessons from D.D. a couple of months ago and have learned so much from him in the short period of time. He's a great teacher, with a lot of patience. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who's interested in taking up the guitar.
My husband really enjoyed his lesson. He loved it so much he went from just a single brush-up lesson to signing on for ongoing instruction. He was most impressed with Eric's ability to quickly diagnose his level with guitar (not a beginner but more of a rusty intermediate) and quickly give him things to practice/evolve his comfort with the instrument and skill level. Highly recommend Eric

Hi everyone, I am a multi-instrumentalist offering beginner/intermediate guitar, bass and drum lessons for students of all ages in the South Bay area. Many studies show that learning a musical instrument helps improve performance on cognitive tasks, increases the capacity of your memory, fosters your self-expression, boosts your self-confidence, relieves stress and above all else is fun! I am 27 years old and have been involved with various bands and session gigs throughout the Bay Area. I have been playing drums for over 16 years and have approximately 11 years of experience with guitar and bass. I have had many great experiences over the years in teaching music to friends and family. I recently began offering my music instruction services professionally and have had a lot of success with students as young as 7 and as old as 56. My lessons are structured based on your level of experience and musical tastes. I find that it is more fun and effective to integrate music lessons with a student's favorite music. You will not only be learning how to play an instrument but will also learn how to play some of your favorite songs along the way! After a few of my beginner guitar/bass lessons, you will be able to learn the following: Identify and play basic chords Use different beginner guitar/bass techniques such as bends, hammer-ons and tremolo picking Perform basic maintenance of your instrument such as tuning by ear and restringing your guitar/bass Read and interpret guitar/bass tablature Ultimately, my goal with every student is to help make music a lifetime hobby for them. I understand that learning a new instrument can be very intimidating for some people; instead of focusing on more complex topics like scales and music theory, my aim for beginners is to help build up their confidence by teaching fun songs, iconic riffs, fun beats and cool techniques that show immediate results. I offer one-hour instruction of the instrument of your choice (guitar, bass or drums) for $35. This is a flat rate, and I will not charge extra if you have friends or family who would like to learn alongside you during our lessons! Guitar/bass lessons can be taught either at your home, my apartment or a place of your choosing (i.e. coffee shop, park, etc). Drum lessons can only be taught at your home. I have extra guitars that you can use for the duration of our lessons if needed. Please shoot me an e-mail if you are interested, so we can discuss your availability, level of experience and music tastes. Thanks!
