If you are looking for someone to restore your furniture, you have found the right person. Adriano is really amazing. I asked him to restore a bedroom set that has been in my family since the 1940s. The pieces were badly discolored and stunk, having gone through various households of smokers throughout the years. Adriano was honest about everything right from the beginning, and very hard-working. He gave me a reasonable estimate, and told me up front what he felt could and could not be done with the pieces based on the type of woods used in them, and how they'd been manufactured. When I couldn't decide what I should do based on the limitations of the furniture itself, he even suggested he restore the smallest piece of the set and I see how I like it before I made a decision on the full set, which was a very generous offer. I felt he was very knowledgeable about his trade, and very up front and pleasant to speak with. He gave me his recommendations, but left the final decisions entirely up to me. He treated the piece of furniture to get rid of the smoky smell, and stripped off all the old paint. Then he physically brought it back from his workshop to show me it to me even before painting, so that I could decide how to proceed while able to see the raw wood. He completely worked around my hours and went above and beyond bringing the furniture back and forth to my house just so I could see it. He was very patient and did not complain as I did research regarding what colors I thought would work on the piece (which took a week or two since I was so busy and couldn't decide!). Once I picked my final colors (very simple, based on his recommendations), the turnaround time was very quick, and the piece looks amazing. It is a real stunner. I wouldn't even have recognized it as the same piece of furniture. You can judge for yourself based on the before and after pictures. I will definitely be having Adriano restore my other pieces of furniture that need doing, and would recommend him without reservation to anybody who needs their own job done. Thanks, Adriano!

Nery was very punctual and very fast! Told me it would take about 4 hours to paint an office wall and it took him only 2! The job was quick and professional and we are completely satisfied. Would definitely call Nery again for a paint job.

Freddy and I communicated via phone and text which was extremely convenient. I was able to schedule him a week ahead based on my renters schedule. He painted 2 exterior steel (structural) i-beams for me,he seemed to be very knowledgeable on how to prep them properly. He gave me the choice with his quote to include paint or I provide it. I wanted to get my own paint. He came on time with his supplies, prepped the area and finished within the day. I would highly recommend him and his company for painting projects.

First-time Thumbtack user here who was in need of a professional service to come in and paint my apt before moving out. After posting an ad I was immediately hit with a few quotes, Jarrod's being the most competitive. After a few back and forths about what needs to be done, Jarrod showed up with supplies, kept everything clean, and did a wonderful job. I can, without a doubt, recommend Jarrod for anyone's painting project and will use him again when the next one arises.

We hired Excel Construction to do a complete kitchen remodeling and enlarge the existing space by expanding the walls several feet to the patio area. The new kitchen included the installation of the upper and lower cabinets, new paint, new backsplash, marble counter top, LED lighting and new dishwasher, stove and range. Eyal, the project manager and Revital (the lady that we worked with in regards to all the documents, payments and permits) from the office who did an outstanding job helping us. During the work, we clearly noticed that they were always made sure that the costs will remain the same and won’t pass the budget that was set at first and they made sure the job was done accurately. All the sub-contractors that they employed for our house (carpenters, electricians, painters etc.) were outstanding, qualified and experienced. We were very fascinated that our project Eyal was able to complete the entire kitchen few days earlier than he promised us. We were always given a personal attention by Eyal, who was very good in communication and organized and by Revital. The new kitchen looks perfect and very useful and we strongly recommend them and we will hire them again for any remodeling project we may have.

Victor offered the lowest bid for the interior + exterior painting jobs I needed done, and he had great reviews, so I went with him and was very pleased with the result! There were a couple places I asked him to touch up before he was finished, and the paint job could have been a bit neater (not sharp edges near the trim and a couple drip marks here and there but nothing that noticeable), but overall the job was very good, and his work is truly an excellent value. He was super responsive and reliable and I would choose him again for future jobs!

I can't recommend Jeanine and Ian enough. Right off the bat, Jeanine really listened and understood what we are looking for and designed an absolutely amazing mural for our teahouse in downtown Los Angeles. She did not hesitate when we asked for changes, and consistently asked me for feedback even throughout the painting process in case I wanted to make adjustments. As for the actual mural, I wish I had enough words to describe just how beautiful it is. We have a challenging space and wanted a 4 wall mural for a very high staircase area. Jeanine and Ian did not hesitate and even brought their own scaffolds. They transformed 4 plain tunnel-like walls (and a ceiling) into a fun and lively outdoor park. Everyone that has come by cannot compliment the murals enough. We are so excited to be sharing this area with our customers soon. The whole process was super fast and easy, something I wish I can say for the rest of our construction process. I can't wait to work with Jeanine again on our next project! Highly highly highly recommend!

Benjamin was very professional and courteous. He was prompt to provide a bid for painting the wrought iron fence around my front yard. He and his men started the work on time and did a fine job. There was an issue with delays due to my gardener blowing debris into the air, which caused the job to extend by one day. The job also cost almost double the original quote, however I am pleased with the final paint job.

Scott swan has done an incredible job at my home. He repaired a water damaged wall in my family room He drywalled the wall, textured the wall to match the rest of the room, and painted. Scott is also painting the outside of my home. Scott has worked with more precision, sanding, sealing, primer before painting, than anyone i have ever hired in the past. I highly recommend Scott Swan. He is honest, trustworthy, and shows up.

If you are looking for an muralist or a faux artist - Jeff is your "go to guy"!! His portfolio of murals is incredible! I was quoted from other faux artists outrageous prices and he is reasonable for his faux work. He also did an oil painting repair for tears in an oil painting and I am very happy. He is prompt, hard working and enjoyable to be around while he is working. I highly recommend him for murals or faux artist -- he can do it all and anything!

We had 3 bathrooms remodeled by hillstar construction, which included 2 complete remodels (master bath and Jack/Jill) and 1 minor updating of guest bath. This is our first remodeling experience and lior and his crew made every effort to accommodate our needs and requests. We relied on lior advise for details and very happy of the outcome. lior responded promptly and communicated well, and his attention to details was really good. We also noticed that hillstar construction used higher end product than other contractors when we compared the estimates and asked specific questions. They installed frameless glass showers and completely replaced floors on two bathroom, changed countertops to quartz replaced we actually had to change painter (from different paint company) to lior crew as we did not like the original work. lior crew completely removed wall paper before painting, which original paint person could not do. Major part of renovation was completed less than 2 weeks, just couple of hours for installing glass showers later and some paint work due to change of painter along the way. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the quality of the work done and the outcome. Also, LIOR went beyond as a contractor as to helping us manage the house while we were away during renovation, and it is very much appreciated. Bottom line, he can really be trusted for the quality of work he provides.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
