When I came to Jan, I had damaged my voice with another coach with only 2 weeks to my next show. I was feeling really hurt and my voice had been hoarse for 6 days due to the last lesson I took. Jan gave me a warm up plan for my voice that would allow me to practice without risking further damage to my vocal cords. After following her prescription, I could feel my voice starting to respond. After 3 lessons my voice is returning to health and sounding sweeter again. I still have one more lesson before show time. I have no doubt all is and will be well for me on that stage. Yay! I'm so grateful to have found you.

Richard is one of the best, nicest, talented and knowledgeable teachers and people I've had the pleasure of working with. He has helped me improve vocally, believe in myself, trust my talent - all this after only 2 lessons! My lesson is the highlight of my week! I can't wait to see where my lessons and voice will take me!

Dr Stephanie is a wonderful, highly experienced teacher, who focuses on the fundamentals of voice and breathing and also individual voice style and quality. She is supportive, flexible with my difficult schedule, and always fun to work with! I would highly recommend her, especially to those looking for a more academic approach to voice lessons and those interested in classical and musical theater training.

I graduated with a degree in theatre and have always wanted to sing. I've toured with my dad and have taken voice lessons with many teachers over the years. Rickie Gole is the teacher I have been looking for my whole life. When I first tried her class all I knew about her was that her students (who I went to school with) were always getting cast and hired. They had beautiful voices and I wanted so badly to sing like them. Since taking lessons with her for about a month now I have discovered something else. I am finding a new voice that is completely mine. I leave her classes more confident, happier, and freer. My biggest obstacle so far is trying not to get emotional because my voice is shocking me. It's how I've always wanted to sing and never believed I could. I completely don't recognize it. Her genuinely warm and encouraging presence makes me unafraid to make mistakes and try new things and because of that I'm singing like I never have in my life. Thank you Rickie.

Camille is Awesome! From the initial search, she replied very quickly. Upon our first meet and greet; she was very open, honest and easy to talk to. I immediately got the sense that she genuinely enjoys singing and teaching, and that she cares about her students, their goals, and achieving those goals. I brought a CD of music with vocal techniques that I would like to be able to do and recordings of myself, so she would know what she was in for. She took the job anyway. She is very supportive and encouraging, and I have already seen (heard) vast improvement in my vocals after 4 weeks. (I practice constantly while driving) I still have a ways to go but I'm really looking forward to future lessons and learning what I can actually achieve. You won't be disappointed once you start tutelage in the Van Niekerk Vocal Studio.

Vic offers a relaxed, non-threatening learning environment. He specializes in adult learning. When I started the piano, I couldn't read a note of music, and Vic started off by explaining proper posture and hand positons, the layout of the keyboard, the purposes of the treble and bass clefs, etc., and also advised me in the appropriate keyboard and equipment for my goals. He is very patient and encouraging and I feel I'm making very good progress in my first six weeks. Vic also alludes to music theory - he has explained that as the lessons progress, we will be discussing theory more in-depth. I'm very pleased with my lessons and even enjoy my practicing (though I'm not sure my neighbors do!!)

Howard Richman is not a piano teacher...he is a LIFE CHANGER. I went to him to learn piano...but realized that the lessons I learned studying piano with the MASTER were not merely lessons in music....but lessons that helped me see outside the paradigm in all areas of my life. Often, as adults, we "come back" to our music...to study what we have been "wanting to get back to" for years. I learned that this is often a time of great change and evolution for us personally. Howard, being so intuitive, knows how to tune in to each individual's needs.... and empower them to EMPOWER themselves. He is a BRILLIANT pianist, composer and master teacher. I've watched him perform miracles with young children who struggled with other teachers who simply wanted to teach "by the book." Howard is always able to find your inner talent and abilities, possibly that are even unknown to you...and he can creatively, intuitively and intelligently create a course of action that will leave you amazed! That's why you are reading SO many wonderful comments here about him. If you are lucky enough to get to study with Howard, it will change your life!...and btw, I can now play a mean Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"....Thank you for everything you taught me Howard Richman! Felice is absolutely amazing! I have always been hesitant about the idea of taking voice lessons because of how nervous I get when having to sing in front of others. Felice has been able to calm my nerves and boost my confidence in my singing abilities. Plus she is very patient with me and puts up with all my quirkiness! :) I would highly recommend her to anyone!

Justin was my piano instructor over the Summer of 2014, during that time he was patient and understanding of my challenges. He made sure I would progress by assigning more challenging pieces and he made me feel confident in my playing. I learned a lot from coming to his classes and had mix emotions when he relocated to LA. He is one of the best mentors I ever had.

Spending every Thursday evening taking music lessons with Leah was one of the best parts of my childhood. I began taking piano lessons when I was 6 years old and continued to take them until I graduated high school. Growing up, I learned so much from Leah about music theory, playing techniques, and life in general. Leah is one of the friendliest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking to take music lessons. She's supportive, creative, and constantly smiling. If I could give her more than 5 stars, I would!

Ariella Vaccarino was my teacher for many years while I was in high school. I went from using my voice incorrectly, belting in musicals and experiencing pain, to developing an operatic voice, with the tools to warm up properly. Her CDs are immensely helpful for me and I use them on the daily.

My daughter Shavanie has been with at SoundCheck for about two months. First off I must say Dan & Electra are very friendly and down to earth people. My daughter does Vocal & Piano lessons with Electra, she is one of the best music coach my daughter has worked with so far...... I am amazed by her progress. She also does Guitar lessons with Josh, who is also amazing...she is finally enjoying her guitar :) Since my daughter has been with SoundCheck she has shown more excitement towards music vocally and instrumentally. I can't thank them enough! :-) I truly recommend SoundCheck, you will not regret it.

I have worked with Bob on various levels. First, Bob provided me with private guitar lessons for several years. Bob made the learning experience fun and enjoyable. I was able to learn and play the kind of music that I wanted to play. Bob is also very patience (staying with me for so many years is a true testament to this!). My youngest son Michael also took private guitar lessons from Bob. On a more professional level, Bob and his band performed at my oldest son's (Bobby) wedding receipion. It was a "blast" with all of the guests dancing and singing. I actually received a call years later from an attending guest asking for Bob's contact information for their wedding reception (obviously they had very fond memories of the event and Bob's music). If and when my 2 remaining kids get married, I can guaranty Bob will be going the music. He makes an event a real party!!!

She is always patient, understanding, and competent in her teaching. Encouraging throughout the lesson, she inspires me to practice and improve. I would recommend her to anyone who would like to play the piano.

About

My work is based upon proven science (see technique description below) and the research of very notable 20th century vocal pedagogues and researchers (primarily Edgar Herbert-Ceaseri, Wm Vennard and Cornelius Reid). My studies with this work have been in semi-private weekly "academic" seminars led by Joel Ewing DMA, PhD (a world renowned practitioner and student of these pedagogues among others) and weekly "in studio" study (voice lessons!) and continue as they have for over 15 years. Additionally I have been a credentialed teacher/administrator for the Los Angeles Public Schools for over 30 years. You can be assured of very competent "content knowledge" (and my ability to transmit that to my students in easy to understand terminology) and my ability to listen "functionally" to a voice, diagnose and "prescribe" appropriate exercises to develop the voice and resolve issues pre-existing or as they may be encountered.
