MARK IS MORE THAN A MERE HANDYMAN! He is an extraordinary craftsman! I hired Mark to reinstall a costly 30 x 40 recessed medicine cabinet, which had been haphazardly installed by a general contractor. He cut the drywall to raise the cabinet, because it had been installed to low, leaving little room for a faucet; built a wood frame for the cabinet, where one had not been built by the contractor; moved the plumbing lines; built a base for a new wall-mount faucet, before we had a counter-mount faucet; installed the medicine cabinet; made sure all was level; and closed the drywall whole. Mark then installed the rough plumbing for our shower, bathtub, and sink. Mark did a fantastic job! He is a gem! He has a GREAT personality, fantastic work ethic, very methodical, has an eye for detail, not afraid of a challenge, and is truly a master craftsman.

I was referred to Team All Star by my friend who they had done some work for to do my house remodel, they did my roof, my windows, my air conditioning, a new patio and painted. All the work was started at the same time and they completed it in about a week. I am so happy, all the workers from the roofers to the painters did an amazing job, and I just love my windows. Larry came out with Sean and gave me some tips on design and it all has turned out so beautiful. I want to mention that even though I called Larry a lot, he never complained even when it was 10 pm, he always was kind and courteous. Dealing with Larry and Team All Star was like working with my family, they really made me feel important. Thanks you guys!

Tom is friendly and efficient. That's why he is busy. Found him to be honest and reliable. I believe hiring a real contractor for roof repair was very important, because I don't want to wait for the next rain to see if he did a good job or not. I trust him and his quality of workmanship.

Martin and his team were referred to us. We closed on Friday, we fumigated over the weekend, and they had our 1200sq ft house apart Monday morning. Here is what they did in only five weeks: Exterior: -Repaired the fascia -Replaced my window trim on all windows, and two of my windows entirely. -Painted the exterior -Poured a patio -Replaced a large side gate -Built and painted a picket fence -Installed a mailbox -Helped me assemble my patio furniture in their down time -Hauled away two truckloads of garbage from the yard and garage that the prior tenants left -Trimmed the trees to keep the off the roof -Patched the roof -took care of the loose wireing in the garage Interior: -Scraped all ceilings -Ripped out all flooring -Ripped out the tub and shower -Ripped out the vanities -Ripped out the toilets -Ripped out all base boards -Retextured the walls and ceiling -Build two doorways -Built a small wall to fix the hall -Reinstalled the bathrooms with new fixtures -Replaced all the ceiling fans -Replaced two doors to the exterior -stripped my sliding glass door of that terrible fogging-effect plastic - hung fresh bedroom closet doors -new carpet in two rooms -new laminate in the living room, office, hall -new vinyl in the kitchen and bathrooms -new baseboards -new kitchen cabnet with counter to match the others -re hung kitchen cabinets to match the other side (they were low) -full paint -smoke detectors -fire extinguishers -re-wired my unsafe attic -new switches and plates Basically, They made it turn-key, from a total dump. And they stayed within my budget. But what will always stay with me is the sense of deep care and respect I felt every step of the way. Our first experience. Never were we blown off of treated like novices. Every time I share pricing with friends who have had work done on their homes, their eyes bug out at how wonderful our pricing was! They always went above and beyond. Like, meeting other people (the surveyer, the city for utilities, the garage door guy, the Apliance delivery guy) so that I didn't have to take work off. Like lending a hand with our last few boxes when we were moving in. Like staying around until my husband made it home on they day he got lost so that I wouldn't be alone in a new neighborhood after dark. Like working weekends to get it done. Like touching base every day with updates. Like helping me spray my yard with flea killer. Like always having a good laugh ready to share. Like answering my stupid "what-the-heck-is-this" calls weeks later when something native to the neighborhood would turn up (mostly bugs). I am so grateful. Also, It's been months and nothing has gone wrong. Our life carries on (knock on wood), and we don't think about trivial house stuff because it's all done.

Originally called for an estimate, The Rooftop Handyman is the ultimate professional. He included photos in his estimate, which was delivered very timely on company letterhead. He did not hesitate to advise us to collect other bids, which we did and he not only presented the best estimate it also was at the lowest cost (important to homeowners on a fixed income). The job was a repair if possible porch/patio roof, Rudy took the time to explain exactly what he would do, opposed to the other bids that simply stated a higher amount. He also inspected and repaired each of the roof penetrations by vent stacks and the electric power connection then went one step further and repainted all of them to be the same color; a close match to the existing shingles and stucco work. I will recommend The Rooftop Handyman, to anyone that needs to have any type of roofing work. Thanks Rudy, for your professionalism. We need more companies like this one.

The entire process was quick and painless. Prince (Owner) was wonderful - responsive & great follow through. After going through two roofers who took the money and never did the job right , I decided to go through Thumbtack , best thing I ever did. Prince responded right away with a very reasonable price. He came by next day and fixed the problem within the same day , he also fixed another leak and charged me only 50% less from the original price. Did fine job. Completed in good time, workmanship looks good. Good response from Prince before and after job. I recommended him to my neighbor in the same week. Prince keep up the good job , with a service like this you don't need to advertise, you got word to mouth .

This company is amazing! Walter Perez (now 5 Star Perez Development) is the most talented contractor ever! Whether it's a repair or rebuild or remodel or new construction-he not only follows the plans but always thinks ahead on what needs to be done to complete the job better than you expected! He's done everything on my house from floors to plumbing to a new roof- to building me a new (and awesome) patio! The workers are efficient and hard working and know their business. They work from morning to night until the job is done! They are clean and fast. When 5 Star Perez tells you 2 weeks- it really is 2 weeks and not 4 or 5!!! I will definitely call this company again! About

My name is Enrique Soto; most people know me as Henry. I have been involved in the roofing industry since I was a young man at the age of 16. My uncles and older brothers were roof installers in the '70s through to the present. I started as most newcomers in the trade: from the bottom. I have had my share of time doing the dirty job as well as the paperwork. I have installed BUR hot mop, composition shingle, tile roofs, single-ply roofs, cold-apply roofs, restoration systems, etc. I have been on large and small projects. I have been a second man on a production crew of 23 personal to a foreman of 3 men. I was also a safety coordinator, production manager, and superintendent for a company for 6 years. I went straight from being their foreman of a shop that had only $300k in sales to their superintendent with the shop increasing to $5.5m a year. I have an excellent reputation in the roofing trade, and I have always been honest to all my clients and employees. Now I have my own company and would like to help others as I have done in the past. This has been a great journey in my life so far, and I have acquired many talents and abilities that I would like to share. I am now 43 years young, and plan on doing this for a long time to come. I hope this helps you on getting to know a little about the roofer whom you might want to hire in the future. I have the complete knowledge to ensure your experience with Soto Roofing Services meets your expectations. God bless, and may your days be as bright as mine have been.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
