I feel like an homage to Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity is appropriate here, so with that in mind I offer my top 5 reasons to choose Mr Lane Parsons for your drum lesson needs. 1 - Your first lesson is free. It’s a big opener and appropriate ice breaker. You want to learn the drums, this guy wants to help you learn. It’s a match made in heaven right from the get go. Like anyone with anything worth selling, the first taste is free, and like other things, a musical habit can be addictive. Side affects may include constantly hitting things with various appendages in a rhythmic fashion and in truly hopeless cases, sleeping with a practice pad. 2 - Your lessons are on an acoustic drum kit. Look, I loved Rock Band, great party game but it’s a game. I made an investment in a kit, and I want to work on a kit. I showed up to work with a person, I don’t want to be plugged into to a fancy video game simulation. Relying on electronic gadgets too much just leads to bad things anyway; I mean, everyone’s had this happen right, you plugged in intending to learn to drum like Neil Peart and instead you found yourself disengaging everyone's life support for the good of the mission and hunting Sarah Connor. What a mess that day was, it’s just the wrong path for me, I’m sticking with the acoustic kit. 3 - You will be shown how to setup your own kit in your environment. Early in your lesson journey, should you choose to take the trip, Lane will come to your place and help you optimize your kit. This was a huge benefit for me. I felt so lost in my initial setup, I don’t know how many times I tweaked things and was never satisfied. I didn’t know what I was doing and I found the resources on figuring it out for myself lacking. “There are no rules”, Do what feels comfortable” seemed to be the name of the game and that was immensely vague and unhelpful. Being comfortable behind the kit is so important, it lays the foundation for everything else and just makes it easier to commit to the hours I want to spend doing this drumming thing. 2 - You will have opportunities to play with other musicians. Lane regularly organizes multi-instrumental jam sessions and drum circles that are free to attend when you can. Each scenario has it’s own flavor. Doing the multi-instrumental jam is fun because you get to try out some things that you have been practicing and have a musical dialogue with other people. The drum circle thing is great because you are generally going to work on hand drums which can feel a little more intimate, a little more primal. Not to digress into too much hippy dippy, kumbaya, whatever but drumming is old; it’s older than animal domestication, farming, cities, all that stuff that makes us “civilized”. For tens of thousands of years that was what we did as small groups of people when hanging out to entertain ourselves and build communality, and you know what, it works. It’s fun, it’s participatory, it’s relaxing and to steal from another author, Mr Kurt Vonnegut, it can give you a sense that something somewhere wants you to like it here. 1 - The lessons are all about you. Lane’s got a great curriculum vitae, glowing endorsements from his teachers and comes from a strong musical family. All that gets put into your service for the purposes of your lessons. This is an attitudinal difference that I really appreciate. It’s not about how I can fit myself into the Lane Parsons' method of percussion. He wants to know what I want, what I want to achieve, what I want to say musically and he puts his knowledge, method and expertise into helping me achieve that. It’s not being told what to do, it’s about finding your own voice and giving you the tools to make it strong. So there you have it, my top 5 reasons for picking Lane Parson’s for your drum lesson needs. Good luck to you in your musical journey.

Kevin is talented, knowledgeable and patient. He started almost a year ago giving guitar lessons to my two kids (11 & 13) and I. I am so proud to see my kids progress and be able to play songs. Kevin does a great job and I highly recommend him.

My mom has always wanted to play the drums but never got a chance, so for her 71st birthday we got her a drum lesson package with Stephen. Never too late to learn something new! She absolutely LOVES the lessons and has been very happy with Stephen. He is professional, kind, and most of all makes the lessons fun! I am so glad that we found Stephen - he has been a fantastic teacher for my mom.

We highly recommend Eric Low to anyone wanting to learn the drums, or advance farther along from where they are currently playing. Our son took lessons from Eric for several years. Lessons were a mix of books and free-form. Eric took the time to find songs of interest to go along with the lesson. Eric is personable and professional. Should either of our schedules change, Eric was responsive and flexible, and we kept in touch during inclement weather. It is an added benefit that Eric has an academic background and professionally plays as well. Our son really enjoyed their time together. When the time is right to return to drum lessons, we will seek-out Eric again, with no hesitation!

Michael fit a great deal of curriculum into our allotted time. He was very knowledgeable about Afro-Cuban music. I must admit (being a Cuban from Miami) I was impressed at his breadth of knowledge on the subject. He is not only a top top notch teacher, but also an accomplished musician. I cant wait to continue my drumming lessons with him.

I have had a some other drum teachers and Mike is by far the best teacher I've had. He does an excellent job of building the lessons around the direction I need to improve upon and he integrates new concepts into our lessons very well. He has helped me think like a drummer, something that has been very eye opening for me. Also his analogies are on point.

We received percussion lessons from Kevin Keith. He not only is an excellent musician, but he is a wonderful teacher. He is very knowledgeable in many genres of music, from solo literature, to band/orchestral music, to jazz. Of which, he shares his knowledge and experiences with his students freely. He is very hardworking and enthusiastic to ensure that his students get a quality education. He is great in communication, both with the student , in ensuring understanding of lesson materials, and with the parents on updates on how the lessons are progressing. He has a very patient and friendly disposition, that would allow anyone to feel comfortable in working with him. He has been a wonderful teacher and mentor for the past 2.5 years.

Dino made me who I am as a drummer today. I started taking lessons from him after playing in the "jazz" band in 5th grade and it's crazy how much my drumming progressed those first couple years. By 7th grade, I was the best drummer in both the middle school AND high school!- Well, there was one kid who was at my level-but he took lessons from Dino too!

My son has taken lessons with Bailey now for almost 9 years. We could not have asked for a better teacher and mentor for our son. He is kind, energetic and has a total gift for bringing out the best in his students. He has adapted his level of teaching for our son over the years and was always ready & encouraging him on to the next level. We are so thankful that our son has Bailey in his life, he is the best role model EVER.

About

I am currently a college student doing my undergrad in music at Metro State. I started studying piano at age 8, and I started playing and studying drums at age 10. I started studying with a great drummer, Chad Johnson, and I am currently studying with Paul Romaine and Henrique Almeida (who is now on the faculty at Berklee School of Music in Boston). My rates are very reasonable for private lessons. I teach beginner and advanced. I also teach anything from jazz, hip hop, funk, rock, Brazilian, afrocuban, and pop drumming. Give me a call.
