What a pleasure to work with Christopher! He's such a professional. Like many writers, I'm quite sensitive about sharing my work with others, but Christopher was thorough, offering lots of insight and suggestions for improvement mixed with keen observations and delicate compliments. He clearly knows what he's doing. I hope to collaborate with him again.

Laura has been helping me improve on my limited Spanish for about six weeks now, twice a week. My intent is to learn how to hold a better, more complete, conversation as I'm going to Mexico for the winter. We have been meeting at her home. Laura has been creative in her approach, as we go from reading to conversation to word games to reviewing proper grammar. Every one hour lesson has invariably turned into at least 1-1/2 hours as Laura gets caught up in really trying to help me improve with the words and phrases that I'll be using on a daily basis. Laura is patient and knowledgable, and I'm sure that after another 6-8 weeks (for myself, learning a foreign language requires lots of time and persistence) my experience this winter will be much more rewarding and fun. Kim took some family pictures for us. She was prompt, enthusiastic, completely prepared, had phenomenal and creative ideas for photos to be posed. She was fun, easy to relate to, professional and turned out the most awesome quality & unique photos; we were blown away with the finished product. We were so impressed as she never rushed us and was clearly interested in bringing out the best in all of us. We can recommend her with the certainty that you will be as pleased as we were.

Working with Amber has been an incredible experience. Amber was available on short notice and always quick to respond to my many questions. Amber helped me to proofread my law school application and made sure that it was error free. She also gave me feedback on my content. It was incredibly helpful to hear an informed opinion on my essays, and the feedback she gave was always helpful and insightful. I would not hesitate to contact Amber in the future if I ever need to make sure a piece of writing is 100% perfect, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for high quality, professional editing for any kind of writing project. Charlotte edited my latest manuscript, preparing it for publication and adding all the technical details I wouldn't have thought to include. She didn't make blind assumptions about my content, but pointed out areas that might need more clarification and let me do that. Which is what makes a great editor! I have contracted JC Communications for so many jobs that is hard to describe them all, in fact, not enough room on this site. JC Communications with Janet Clark as the Principal, is by far the best contractor I have hired or worked with in the field of Public Relations, Writing in general, producing videos, writing screen plays, updating and creating web sites and creating marketing collateral material, proofreading (eagle eye she is!), and creative and technical writing. A wonderful experience and never late on deadlines and asks the right questions in order to provide the client with the best product!

“Amanda has taken my Music Business to the next level.” She worked extremely hard in Designing my Website, creating my logo, Creating & Managing my Social Media pages: (Facebook page, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter accounts) and managing my business email. She worked very hard to create what I envisioned for all my sites. Not only is she very knowledgeable and efficient in her work, but she also offered suggestions and creative ideas time and time again throughout the process of creating my all my pages. I am very impressed with her quality of work , customer care, and meticulous attention to detail. I will surely refer her to any type of business who is looking for a website and social media builder!!! " -Dawane Garey -Against the Grain Music Production www.atge.jimdo.com

We have worked with Facet Creative on several projects including LivvnArt and The Religious Academy. Each time they have exceeded my expectations. I have been more than impressed with what they have done with our websites from functionality to design to thoroughly thinking through the project where we lacked. The work that has been done has been excellent and beautiful and has created a larger motivation on our end to meet Standards they have set with the Projects we hired them for. Thanks again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
