My son attends a highschool which required him to learn Calculus independently. We sought a tutor and are very pleased with his progress covering the entire AP Calculus curriculum in a few weeks. Although we have not gotten AP scores back yet, my son learned well from the tutor’s orginized and clear instruction. This guy knows his stuff. We hesitated with the “online” aspect of the tutoring and initially met inbperson with the tutor. Honestly- we were completely wrong. The online tutoring was awesome.

AR has been tutoring our 9 year old the past 2 months and it has been a great experience. We have seen great growth in this short time. AR was able to properly assess and diagnosis areas that were problematic and preventing progress with reading. Our child is excited about his time with her as she makes each session fun. He is incentivized to put in the effort needed to get his assignments done. She has been very flexible with our busy schedules. As parents, we feel so much better about the direction our child's education is going. We are so greatful for AZ and highly recommend her as a tutor. Most importantly our son loves his time with her and he is getting what he needs to succeed and feel confident with reading. DA Parker CO

We love working with Moises! After just two weeks of tutoring, my daughter said "Now I understand the mistakes I have been making in math and I also understand how to do it right next time. I am starting to like math." Moises knows how to teach so that the information goes from short term memory to long term memory. We also have my son taking guitar lessons with Moises. He loves it so much he has requested lessons twice a week. We feel fortunate to have found someone who can work effectively with a student with ADD and that is an overall great teacher and kind person.

My son has some challenges with mathematics, and especially with test anxiety. Sandy is a calm and reinforcing mentor and tutor, and she quickly created a trusting relationship with my son so that he could feel safe making mistakes. She creates an atmosphere where my son can come up to speed in the subjects that challenge him personally, and she is thoughtful in setting goals and a path for success. She is an excellent tutor.

I don't know if I could have passed those pesky, required college math classes without Kendall's help. I do know, with his help, I did pass my math classes and graduated with high honors. Kendall has the ability to assess where you're at, and then teach at a comfortable level, to get you where you want to be. He displays patience and understanding and will talk you down from the ledge, if need be.

I hired Carissa to do my taxes and she did an outstanding job! I got a great refund and she had everything done and filed very promptly. I will definitely be using her services again next year.

I provide in-person and online tutoring for high school and college students. I have a passion for working with smart, talented, motivated teenagers and adults who are challenged by the traditional academic structure, and I help them to uncover and use their own unique skills to achieve success in school and in life.

I am a painter from Spain. My two passions are: painting and teaching my language. I love helping my students accomplish their goals. Visit my Facebook page.

I have extensive experience teaching in Cherry Creek. Seeing my students succeed. Even when they are new to the country and the English language.

I am a college student currently attending the University of Denver. I am majoring in psychology and communications with a minor in Spanish, and I run and coordinate a volunteer tutoring program at my school. I have experience tutoring children in all academic subjects, from ages 5-13, and I can tutor older students in beginning and intermediate Spanish in reading, grammar, writing, and conversational speaking. Since I am not a licensed tutor, I am very affordable and willing to work with varying financial situations. Most of all, I am very patient, caring, and efficient!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

    • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
    • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
