Julia A. says, "I first started looking for a personal trainer after I had a kidney transplant and Pat was the first person I contacted. I wasn’t happy with the shape I was in after dialysis and my transplant. After a great consultation call we got started about 5 weeks ago and it’s been great. He took things at a pace that pushed me, but we never over did it. I’m a horse back rider and I’m finally back in the saddle again and I am seeing changes in my body, my clothes are fitting again, and I have lost many inches and 12 lbs so far. He changes up workouts constantly so I am never bored and I look forward to each workout and feel great after! I would 10/10 recommended working with Pat if you want to achieve your goals. I can’t wait to see where I’m at in a few months!"See more

Eli H. says, "Nick is an amazing personal trainer, I started with him back in April. He worked around my crazy work schedule. All my workouts have been done virtually which I was concerned about at first but after the first few sessions, it worked great. I was 29 when I started with him at the beginning I didn't want to go to a gym so I did home workouts primarily just using bodyweight workouts and he knew of so many workouts that would kick my ass by just using my weight. He also really understands what I need to eat to fuel my body for what I am trying to accomplish, and he will make recommendations on what I should eat more of or stay away from. I ended up buying weights to use at home I also bought a climbing rope that I hung from my tree and he added that to my workout when I first got it I couldn't even make it all the way up, but after a few weeks, I could complete multiple climbs in my workout. He uses a very good app that helps track workouts and shows you all the progress. He pushes me to do my best without being annoying about it. I have set so many PR's and I always feel great after every workout he watches my form and makes sure that I will not hurt myself or start bad habits and if I have pain that comes up from work I just text him and let him know and he will add some stretches and light workouts in the app that I can do on the fly that targets that pain also with the app it has instructions and videos that help you do it right just in case he isn't available at the time for the workout. He knows what he is doing and he will not let you down if you are looking for a good personal trainer I would very much recommend Nick."See more

Ariel R. says, "I’ve been training with Rachel for a little over a year, and choosing her was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. When I first started my weight-loss journey, I weighed 250 pounds. I was able to lose the first 50 pounds on my own through walking, but I hit a point where I felt stuck, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to do next. That’s when I found Rachel and everything changed. She didn’t just train me; she educated me. She taught me how to value my nutrition, understand my macros, and build strength through weight training. For the first time, I wasn’t just losing weight I was learning how to sustain it. Before Rachel, I relied on cardio and guesswork. Now, I feel strong, confident, and in control of my body. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, both physically and mentally. What truly sets Rachel apart is her continuous support and accountability. She gives realistic, honest advice and genuinely cares about your progress—not just the scale. Along the way, I didn’t just gain results, I gained a friendship. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without her."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
