FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

There are several great options for waterproof basement flooring. For example, epoxy floors are waterproof but are thicker and sturdier than paint. Make sure the concrete substrate has been prepared for application.

Tile is a designer’s dream, giving you a moisture-resistant surface that’s infinitely customizable. Rubber sheets or tiles are also good waterproof options, particularly for playrooms, workout areas or laundry rooms.

Vinyl tiles and planks imitate wood or other materials very convincingly, provide moisture resistance and last a long time. And sheet vinyl is affordable and a great waterproofing solution for those in need of quick fixes.

Daniel and his crew are very hard working and provided quality results. Gonzalez Construction renovated my basement, including an addition of a separate entrance, egress windows, and a kitchen. I am very pleased with the outcome and will be using Gonzalez Construction for future projects.

JM CONTRACTING
JM CONTRACTING
JM did a great job on my basement finish, worked hard and was very meticulous in all phases of the work he did (plumbing, electrical, tile work, flooring). Supervision of framing, drywallers, and painters went smoothly and got the whole job done pretty much on time.

I would recommend Daniel anytime. He and his crew stayed on time and on budget for our basement remodel. The quality of work is amazing. It is very hard to get a contractor that is on time, on budget, and has high quality work all in the same project, but Vergara construction delivered on all these areas.

Jose and team did a great job on an unplanned basement remodel. Pricing was fair and they showed up on time and completed the work. Biggest challenge was lead time on materials (that I chose) but they worked around that issue. As always, over communicate to ensure everyone is on the same page. Would definitely work with them again!

John finished our basement and he executed the plan to perfection. He does most of the work himself (except dry wall and complex electrical). Very punctual, very ethical and a perfectionist. He is not the cheapest, but he won’t nickel and dime you either. You get what you pay for… John is very reasonable. I will recommend John without any reservations.

It was a pleasure working with Tyrone from start to finish. He was fair, professional, and a great communicator. I really appreciated his attention to detail and design since. He was a good listener and helped me achieve all my goals for the basement finish. I appreciated the workmanship, attention to detail, and finishing the job all the way to the end, leaving me with a fresh, clean finished basement. Tyrone and his subs were very respectful of my home and my neighbors. I trusted them to work on it even when I was not present. When I wanted to add something to the design along the way, the change orders and cost management were handled fairly and professionally. I did not know Tyrone prior to finding him on Thumbtack, I loved working with him, and I have recommended him to friends and neighbors who need a good contractor. 750 Sq FT - Littleton, CO

Richlynn Construction and Remodeling
Richlynn Construction and Remodeling
RichLynn Construction just completed the remodeling of the basement in our townhouse. Rich Thompson and his son Alec were a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Their bid was fair, the estimates for materials was accurate, all of their subs (of which there were several as this was raw space) were pleasant and professional, they were highly communicative throughout (and easy to reach, and returned all calls and texts promptly), the project was completed on time and budget, it looks fantastic, and my wife and I are thrilled with the outcome. We would happily use them again if the need arises and recommend them without reservation!

Smart builders inc
Smart builders inc
We hired Moses and the crew at Smart Builders to finish our basement, and the experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish.

From the very first meeting, Moses walked us through the entire process step by step. He took detailed measurements, shared creative ideas, helped with the design, and even invited us to their showroom to choose cabinets, countertops, and finishes that matched our vision.

What we appreciated most was how they customized the project around our ideas and style while providing professional guidance throughout the process. The team communicated clearly, worked efficiently, and kept the project moving forward. Payments were divided into stages, making the process easy to follow and manage.

Like many remodeling projects, we made several changes and upgrades along the way. Moses worked with us on the pricing of those changes, was transparent about costs, and helped us find solutions that fit our budget. We felt the additional work was priced fairly, and we were very happy with how everything was handled.

The crew was professional, respectful, and genuinely cared about the quality of their work. They also completed several extra items along the way without hesitation, showing their commitment to customer satisfaction.

We are extremely happy with our finished basement and would highly recommend Moses and Smart Builders to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled, and trustworthy remodeling contractor.

Jose Calix

Jose has done several projects for us. First, he remodeled our basement including a beautiful built-in. He was so easy to communicate with, always keeping us in the loop with what was happening. His number one priority is that we were happy with the work and we are so happy we picked him to do it. The project was done sooner than promised and on budget. Most recently he built us a fence. Our fence came out awesome as well. He is also such a kind man and very easy to trust! The guys he has working for him work so hard to get things done fast. I cannot recommend Jose enough and we will definitely be using him for our upcoming projects, He is truly a gem and we feel lucky to have him help update our house! He is the best!!!!

Red Earth Construction Inc
Red Earth Construction Inc
If you're looking for a general contractor, I would encourage you to look elsewhere.

I hired Red Earth Construction to finish my unfinished basement. What was quoted as a two month project took 3x longer than expected. Along with that it required an excessive amount of babysitting, follow up, and repetition on my part. In the end I was left with a mess and had to hire additional contractors to finish and fix the work that was "completed"

And before Jim responds to this review let me address a few things he will likely include in his reply...

Yes, there were holidays. You should have taken these into consideration during the quote and it's not acceptable to have 6 week gaps where no work was done

No, I do not care to have your painter come back and fix things.... Again. The previous three attempts only compounded the issues and I was tired of scrubbing paint off every inch of my newly installed floor. By the way, I had too replace light fixtures due to this

And while I appreciate your gracious ~2÷ project discount in the end, I spent THOUSANDS more to fix the work I hired you to do

I could go on, but overall the Endly family is very nice but extremely poor project managers. Their quote was far from the cheapest so I felt like I was going to get quality work, but that charm wore off quickly. I will not be hiring them again for any future work

Richlynn Construction and Remodeling
Richlynn Construction and Remodeling
I am so happy with every aspect of Richlynn Construction. Finding a good contracting company felt impossible but they did an amazing job. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for a fair price and quality work! Longer notes below:

I initially engaged Richlynn for a basement remodel I wanted some time this fall. Their PM Alec came by with Rueben and Jose for a free quote. They arrived on time, asked thoughtful questions, provided helpful suggestions, and got back to me quickly when I realized I needed to make a change. The quote was clear and extremely well priced compared to other options.

We refined the quote and scheduled the work. Then literally the next week, I had a family death and needed to move another family member in with us. It was sudden and unexpected. Alec and team worked with me to expand my quote to include additional work required to make space for our new household member. They were compassionate and incredibly helpful with scheduling, allowing me to move up the timeline and increase scope, again with very fair and transparent pricing. I was a little all over the place and they were patient, kind, and clear communicators throughout the process.

When work began, Jose and Rueben were absolute gems. They were efficient without rushing and did a fantastic job on all elements including new drywall, electrical a upgrades, lighting changes, a new wall, and new flooring. They respected my space and schedule and were very pleasant to have around. I never felt like anyone was cutting corners and cannot overstate how happy I am with the quality of their work. Getting to peak downstairs each day was a treat and now that the spaces are complete, I keep popping in and it makes me so pleased.

I literally have no notes on things that I wish went differently. Big thanks to the whole team!
