Pour la France supplied everything we needed for a great party - and it was elegant. I got to spend time with folks instead of working the bbq grill.

My wife and I celebrated co-retirement and had a party for 75 guests at an outdoor venue with a small inside dining room and kitchen in Golden. I contacted Pam after reading the rave reviews on Thumbtack. She was prompt with a response, gave a very fair price and supplied a plethora of side dish suggestions for our BBQ theme. Pam and Mary arrived early, helped set-up other areas of our venue, and then brought appetizers made by my wife's friend to the guests while they were visiting outside. Pam brought extra supplies for us and provided plastic cups for the wine that we brought. The food was exceptional and they also made some of the sides gluten free that I requested at the last minute. Our guests loved the food. There were no complaints, only compliments. Pam and Mary were polite, engaging, professional and made sure they were available to help us and our guests throughout the entire night. After our guests had eaten, they made sure there was food left for the band. They stayed late to help clean our entire location, inside and out, even taking out the trash. The kitchen area was cleaner when they left, than when we arrived. Lastly, they kept a generous portion of all of their food for my wife and I to take home with us, even though most of it was completely consumed by our guests!! Pam and Mary provided a utopian experience for our party. You will not go wrong by hiring them. Feel free to contact me personally at jepm718@aol.com with any questions.

We hired Robert Meyer and Luke's to cater a backyard BBQ last summer. Fifty guests thoroughly enjoyed scrumptious BBQ brisket, pulled pork and pulled chicken and a variety of side dishes and fresh fruit. Besides serving delicious food, it was so easy for us. Bob set up - served - and cleaned up. The price was right and Bob is great to work with!

Grant, Nicole, and their team prepared a fabulous BBQ buffet for our 90-person wedding. They helped us plan a seasonal menu and they took care of dessert, bartending, and finding rentals for our venue. It was so helpful to not have to worry about coordinating lots of different vendors and be able to relax on our wedding day. Our guests raved about the food and the cocktail they created for us. They were nothing but professional from planning to the day of. I couldn't recommend them enough.

The best BBQ I've ever had. Everything was as great as it was at the tasting. We had Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork and Beer Can Chicken. All was moist and had great flavor. Homemade Bbq sause was great! Service was stellar! The server's brought us wine and appetizers outside to us while pictures were being taken so we could have a break. The pricing is very reasonable and Allen worked with us to make the meal so memorable! Ashley the catering manager thought of everything and made the day a breeze. We didn't have a single thing we would of changed. The guests all had plenty to eat and raved about how great everything tasted. We both highly recommend them! Staff did so much more than we expected, they are top notch team you won't find anywhere else.

I used Bennett's BBQ catering services for a family event in September 2015. The food was fresh, delicious and everyone was talking about how great it was. But what I was equally impressed by was the customer service, and the quick response, and personal attention I received while planning my event. I will most definitely be using Bennett's BBQ again!!

Alma Kitchen + Catering produced a gourmet dinner spread for a recent July 4th Celebration in a private residence. The menu was classy BBQ and included Korean BBQ sliders and Coffee Chili Rub beef kabobs. The menu was modern and sexy and approachable! Head chef Ruben was extremely professional and enjoyed chatting about the food with the guests. His knowledge, excitement, and integrity for producing a unique food experience is just one reason why he will be invited back to our next event.

I had a great time learning the different BBQ techniques. He came very prepared for the lesson with instructions on the various techniques I would be learning. He even gave me a brief lesson on types of knives and other cooking utensils. The cherry on top was the food, my wife and kids loved it and I didn't have to clean anything. We plan on utilizing him again in the near future. Thanks again Tony!

BBQ King catered a graduation party I hosted with 2 other families, with about 120 guests. They offer quite a few menu choices up front, but they also cheerfully accommodated the additional ideas we brought to them. (They created a sweet potato bar for us, as an entree for vegetarian guests– though the carnivores enjoyed it, too.) I was a pretty high-maintenance customer, trying to coordinate for multiple families, and they were very patient and flexible. As we were planning the party, they were communicative and quick to answer our questions, and their estimate included a clear description of the items and services that were included in the price. The (cold and rainy) day of the party, they stayed nearby and kept the food replenished. The owner, Shane, was very friendly and professional; we enjoyed working with him, and everything ran smoothly. We received a lot of compliments on the food, and I enjoyed leftover BBQ all week.

Very highly recommend! We had Big D's Smok-N-BBQ cater my father-in-law's retirement party of about 150 people. The food without a doubt was the hit of the party. The spread was awesome! We had a little bit of everything, ribs, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, brisket, mac n cheese, green beans... Seriously the works, and it was all amazing. The food was not only delicious, but the catering was very reasonably priced, really a great value. Derrick is fantastic to work with and made the whole process extremely easy and stress-free. He treats his customers like family. He was very responsive whenever we needed to get in touch, he showed up right on time, and literally set everything up for the party. We love Big D's!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
