Since I've been following Curtis' pre and post workout nutrition programs, I've lost fat, and gained lean muscle. I've also noticed significant endurance gains when performing more intense WODs. He's a fantastic nutrition coach, a great Crossfit Coach, and an all around great guy! I recommend Curtis to everyone I know.

Christina visited our work site to present an hour long nutrition session. From the beginning, she was very responsive and incredibly professional. The employees who attended the session all said they walked away with valuable information and asked to have her back for more presentations. We will absolutely be working with her again!

My husband and I turned to Dr. Sasha Houseman after two emergency room visits concerning our 11 year old son. On both occasions, our son had been complaining of severe stomach pain and his regular pediatrician recommended we take him straight to the hospital for fear of an appendicitis. After many hours and several tests, we went home both times with a diagnosis of... constipation! During the hospital discharge, we knew the general handouts provided on eating more fruits and vegetables just wasn't enough because it's not easy to get a preteen to listen to his parents. This is when we reached out for expert advice. Dr. Houseman interviewed both my husband and I about our family's meal planning. She also patiently talked with our son about his interests, physical activity, sleeping habits and the foods he most liked to eat. Her practical solutions for better nutrition were, indeed, easy to act upon and her recommendations are making a difference in our son's overall health. Kristin W.

Kaitlyn was a wonder to work with. She is easy to talk to and well educated on the subject with incredible insight. I have had arthritis most of my life and she was able to pinpoint ways I can improve my overall health and comfort through nutrition. I am also a vegetarian and she tailored my experience to match. I can not recommend her enough!

I have found Heather to meet all of my nutritional needs in regards to pre existing auto immune imbalances. She has formulated spot on protocol (herbs, nutrition and lifestyle) and offered me so much relief as well as education on how to help my body heal. I have also been going to Heather for body work and have not found anyone comparable to her technique, intuition and care. I recommend Heather as top notch with her years of experience and passion.

Jessica has been amazing! I started seeing her for nutritional coaching over a year ago. She has taught me proper nutrition, stress management tips and how to deal with emotional eating. With her guidance, I have been able to lose and keep off 20lbs for more than six months! She has been incredible through all of this. She is caring, compassionate and extremely knowledgable. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking to better their health in any way!

Amanda has been a tremendously positive and friendly guide in the evolution of my eating and nutrition habits. From our first meeting to discuss my goals and my general overall health, Amanda has been knowledgeable, understanding, gentle and flexible. She understands that there is not one “plan” which works for everyone. Her approach is not to make up rules and give you a list of restrictions, but to gently guide you into working better nutrition and sustainable habits into your lifestyle. Each step of the way Amanda encouraged my efforts and applauded my creativity and sensitively helped me when I got stuck. Throughout the seven months of consultation with Amanda, I definitely feel her approach and her flexible inclusive programs are excellent value and offer plans for getting started and for maintaining the coaching and accountability.

I recently completed an amazing and successful mountain bike race season where I managed to maintain a disciplined and intense training schedule. I made a habit of cooking healthy meals, taking my supplements, completing a ridiculous amount of squats and committing to a slightly unhealthy love affair with my bike. I demanded from my body more than I ever thought it would give me. My motivation for all of this came from Rachel with Nutrition Works. She graciously took me under her wing and set up my first nutrition and training program. It was based on perceived exertion (no heart monitor needed!) and built me up according to what my race schedule was like that month. There’s actually a science to this stuff, who knew? I learned so much from Rachel during this time, but she also encouraged me to learn from myself, from my body. I used the local race series to practice hydrating, eating and recovery. I learned the valuable lesson that dried apricots were not the best food to eat while racing, but almond butter and jelly sandwiches were perfect. My body responded very quickly to it’s new routine, and my riding and endurance was really starting to improve. My goal for the last endurance race of the season was to ride at least 100 miles, an accomplishment I never thought possible so quickly. I'm proud to say that I finished that race with 130 miles under my belt, and I attribute a lot of that success to Rachel. I look forward to coming in strong next season, and am excited to see what Nutrition Works has in store for me!

    About

Trained in functional ntrition and wellness coaching, I recognize the unique bio-individuality of each of us. Losing weight, healing from Lyme’s or following a cognitive ReCODE program is a unique health path and requires different solutions for each of us. We work together to create a health plan that seeks the root cause of your issues. We dig deep to discover and treat the underlying cause of your health complaints or meet new health goals head on. I am willing to meet you where you are at. I listen empathetically and am willing to work in baby steps or radical, giant strides, whichever pace you identify as how you want to proceed. I have relationships with labs for food sensitivity tests, hormone imbalance or nutrient deficiencies, or to check for other GI health parameters (like candida, H.Pylori, dysbiosis, SIBO, poor nutrient absorption, leaky gut, etc). Getting to the root of your chief complaint(s) may help arrest or even reverse its progression. We can look at food choices, diet issues, lifestyle, stress factors, nutrient deficiencies and develop a plan the works for YOU. Your plan, your way. Remember, good health is not a matter of willpower. It is a matter of filling your day with healing habits, crowding your plate with more nutritious food choices, and generating the desire to life more mindfully, healthier, and happier.

Ashley put together the perfect nutrition program for me/my lifestyle! Her coaching and program was not at all the typical 'diet' which I at first was worried about. Instead she took the time to figure out what was realistic for me - and I've been able to follow the plans and keep the weight off! I also feel like i have a coach to check in with as I have questions - she is personable and cool too, always a bonus.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.
