Juste Hors D'Oeuvres catered my baby shower - a co-ed cocktail party in Manhattan and everything was flawless! Marylyn is great to work with and always available to answer questions in the planning stages. On the day of the event the staff was prompt, professional and polite. The food was delicious and guests asked for their contact information as they were so impressed by the hors d'oeuvres and lunch. The event ran so smoothly from set-up to clean-up. I would highly recommend Juste Hors D'Oeuvres for your next party!

We hired Chef Thomas for our wedding & baby shower combination celebration, and we could not be happier!!! First of all, we decided to hire a caterer with only one month to spare before the big day, and thought we'd have no chance to get someone, but thankfully Thomas was available for our day and responded quickly to our inquiry, and he worked closely with us to make sure we got exactly what we needed. The kitchen at our venue was very small, shabby, had one faulty oven, and wasn't air conditioned, and despite all that the food and service was absolutely perfect. Our guests sang their praises and especially loved the roast beef, which was so tender you hardly even needed a knife to cut it. The desserts we had were also so very tasty, even a seemingly simple buttermilk cake was perfectly moist and flavorful, and they were able to make a custom requested cinnamon cream cheese frosting, so heavenly!! We were thrilled to have some leftovers to bring home, and enjoyed devouring them the next day and a half. I don't often write reviews online but Chef Thomas and Ann truly deserve the recognition. They were so wonderful to work with and put my pregnant-bridezilla nerves at ease, they were truly professionals. I recommend them without reservation and hope they will be available to cook for us and friends again on our anniversary!!! :D

Michel catered the bridal shower I threw for my best friend. He was very responsive and was willing to work with me for certain dishes. Although he doesn't typically do sandwich wraps he was willing to do that for us. His food as absolutely delicious! All the guests were raving about the food and kept going back for more. Michel is very personable and walked me through each dish and how he prepared it. I would recommend him to anyone!

Overall, it was one of the best catered events I've ever attended and, trust me, there have been many events over the years between graduations, showers, weddings, special birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Right from our first interaction, Cameron made me feel that the success of our event was important to him!! That made all the difference. They were patient with my many questions, professional, honest, personable, and they offered excellent advice. The food, presentation, and service were all superb! I received numerous compliments on the quality of the food, the generous portions and multiple questions regarding the identity of the caterer!! I highly recommend Cameron Culinary Concepts for first rate catering services! I look forward to working with them again. Thank you again, Cameron, and best wishes to both you and your wife.

We hired Vickie for the Baby Shower. Vickie did an amazing job decorating the event hall. My wife was excited after seeing the arrangements that Vickie made. She was thrilled and happy that the event was well panned and managed. All the guests were also impressed with the event (decoration and planning). It was one of the best days of our life. All the credit goes to Vickie for making this event a memorable one.

Chef Kylene was great from the start to finish. Never meeting her or knowing anyone that knew her was a bit scary but she set me at ease and followed through with everything she promised. The food came cold with heat up instructions as requested. Very tasty and lots of raves from my guests. The whoopie pies were adorable with the pink filling for a baby shower but a little disappointing in taste ( not my grandmothers recipe!) The coconut chicken and dip was a big hit. Very reasonably priced. I would definitely use her again if the need arose.

I have used MuchaChula for several events in the last 12 months. They have catered food for birthday parties, a baby shower and just fun get togethers with family and friends. I have found them to be extremely professional and at the same time warm and genuine. The food has been delicious every time. We have had both formal sit down dinners as well as more informal gatherings, and the food preparation, service, and clean up has been perfect. I haven't had to lift a finger and could really enjoy being with my guests. I highly recommend MuchaChula!

I had an amazing experience Red Mango on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield, CT. I had asked Rose from for a special catering order for my baby shower at a somewhat last minute notice. I wanted a fruit platter, but I wanted it to be baby shower themed. She was able to accommodate my requests (the watermelon in my fruit platter was turned into a baby stroller with surrounding fresh fruits) and then some! I was very satisfied with the very friendly and punctual service. The greatest perk of it all was that the fruits that were used were fresh and the wraps that I had also ordered were delicious. On top of it all, both platters were beautifully put together! I definitely recommend Red Mango Cafe as THE go-to place for catering for events and parties! You'll get exceptional and personable service and delicious foods!

I hired Good Food Catering for a shower in my home for approximately 25 people. I was offered a variety of appetizers and dinner items to choose from. The food was timely delivered, set up, served and cleared without interrupting the shower whatsoever. Most of all, the food was delicious! My guests really enjoyed the variety and there was plenty of food for seconds which many took advantage of. I was able to enjoy the shower and not worry about the food, serving or clean up!

Hired them to drop food off for my daughters baby shower for a small group of around 80 people. They showed up 15 min earlier than scheduled, came in set the food up which was nice and hot. They stayed for about a half an hour and handed out apps as guests were coming in. They were awsome right down the food being amazing. Will be hiring them again for a catered Thanksgiving drop off...

I used Jus Whisso Catering Services for my baby shower. I had over 200 people attend and contacted her last minute begging for her assistance. My event was 2/6 and to this day people still ask "who made those yams". Her food wowed my guest and any event in the future I will utilize her services. While pregnant I was such a picky eater, everything made me vomit but not her food! The baby couldn't reject it lol. Kudos to her!

Recommended American Bistro Catering to our close friends to cater a shower reception for their kids. There were about a hundred people there and virtually everyone commented on the fabulous food. The shower was a Jack and Jill at a winery venue. American Bisto provided servers as well as the meals. The servers were real professionals. We've since seen our friends multiple times and they are still talking about how well prepared and served everything was. American Bistro is really a class act.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

    • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
    • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
    • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
    • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
    • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
