Let me begin by acknowledging Miguel and his crew did finish the home renovation as described and the quality was good. The original timeline of 8 weeks, however, was destroyed and doubled. The work began in April and finally completed in late August. And we aren't talking about any type of huge additions or creating a bathroom where there wasn't already one. This was generally a cosmetic refresh including kitchen counter, flooring, a bathroom renovation, and painting. The first floor was also opened up by moving support beams. This was a $25k job. There was no reason for it to take 4 months and I wasn't given a reason, either. Throughout the process Miguel's communication was incredibly poor which caused way more stress than necessary. Once I was asked to take one of his employees to home depot for an item! Imagine paying a business for a service then being asked to transport their employees. Despite the quality workmanship overall I regret working with him and would not recommend anyone use this company for anything that'd take longer than a weekend to complete.

It was a pleasure to work with Yousef and his two team members. They renovated a utility closet for me. The work involved replacing two access panels, repainting, and installing new shelving. The work was scoped well and took a little over one day to complete and I am extremely pleased with the results. The large access panel was replaced with a canvas cover that I ordered and I now have much easier access to my HVAC unit (that sits behind that panel) to replace my air filter.

Stephen was very prompt when we scheduled our site visit for an estimate. He was early and was assessing the outside before I arrived, which was great. Stephen is very thoughtful, took all of the notes down with our desires for renovating the home and turned around an estimate very quickly for us. Out of 4 contractors we talked to, his bid was the only one that was very detailed, accounted for all our requests and notes and had a 2 year warranty on the work (almost unheard of!). After a couple of calls to talk through the details, we decided to go with Stephen and his team for our full gut and renovation. He was flexible on things we needed flexibility on and his demeanor is so approachable and thoughtful - we knew he and his team be a delight to work with for our 4-6 month process. He also does a lot do work in DC. We especially loved this they are a minority owned business, which is great (and we weren’t even looking for that, but it’s a nice plus). His level of excellence outshone all other contractors and his expertise and energy are perfect for any project we would ever want to do. Highly recommend!

I discovered Jesryn General Construction on Thumbtack and requested an estimate. I had already gotten two estimates elsewhere, one of which I liked, but wanted a couple more since we were new to renovation and didn’t really know what we should expect. My project included a full kitchen and connecting mudroom overhaul, including several other small jobs. The house was built in 1950 and had never had any such work done. We met Julio Lopez, general contractor, who gave one of the most thorough inspections and estimates of all the companies that visited. Even before we received his quote back, we hoped that his numbers matched our budget because we felt his company would be the best for the job. Things worked out and Jesryn was chosen. From the very first day, you can see that he hires hard-working, professional people for his company. They show up on time, work diligently, and clean up before leaving at the end of every day. What I wish we had done differently? I wish I had been a lot more specific in communication in the beginning about everything, including the very little things, like light fixtures or vent covers. I also wish that we had done a better job planning with them early on and throughout the renovation. I think that as the manager of the projects, Julio could do better with making sure that everything that’s needed is available when it’s needed, so that nothing has to be compromised later. For instance, there was a specific door I had chosen for the powder room, but didn’t know it had to be ordered weeks before because it was not in stock at the hardware store. So I ended up having to switch doors at the last minute to something that was available. It actually all worked out just fine, but fortunately it wasn’t something more important in the house. Overall, Julio has a good heart and runs a good company where he tries to make sure his clients are well taken care of and happy in the end, which is about all you can ask for. No experience is going to be perfect, but I highly recommend considering Jesryn, whether you have a big renovation or a small project. (The photos included are from the last day, as they were closing everything.)

Apex General Contracting did a fantastic job on a major renovation project for our row house in DC! We had never done a renovation project of any kind, and this was the first time we had worked with a contractor. We highly recommend Carlos and his team for jobs big and small. Carlos and the team at Apex were very responsive. We would text or call him with a lot of questions, and he was always available and would quickly respond. They stayed on budget. We had a very tight budget, and Carlos stuck to it, even when minor complications required us to make various changes from our plan. Carlos was very collaborative and solution-oriented whenever little wrinkles arose. He would consult us about details big and small, and made sure we were happy with all the work being done. If we changed our mind about something or were not happy with how something turned out, Carlos would fix it to make sure we were happy. Plus, the guys did a great job of cleaning up each day. Finally, the quality of the work was beyond our expectations. Carlos’s carpenters are very talented and they helped us recreate and restore original vintage aspects of our 100-year-old house. His team also helped us create chic bathrooms and a modern kitchen. We are thrilled with how everything turned out, and we would definitely hire Apex for another job in the future. What we needed • Gut remodel kitchen; • Finish an unfinished basement; • Gut remodel two bathrooms; • Refinish original hardwood floors; • Install vintage marble fireplace; • Rebuild original staircase; • Install a two-zone HVAC system; • Replace all plumbing and drains in the house; • Upgrade electrical panel and most wiring and circuits; • Replace front door; • Lots of cosmetic work.
