I hired Antonio Originally to paint some windows, I was so impressed with his quality of work that I had hired him for 2 other jobs. What I have come to appreciate is Antonio’s ability to be a real handyman, he can do painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical. I intend to hire Antonio again and again.

Secure Glass did an excellent job of fixing my 15-year-old windows. Now all those windows are sliding, no leakages and locking like new. While other glass companies recommended replacing the entire windows of the home, Secure Glass glass fixed the same and saved me ton of money. I highly recommend Secure Glass.

We had a long list of things to be done before listing our home for sale. Jenrii with Ordonez Home Improvement did an excellent job tackling every project. Jenrii enclosed the landing where we had removed a handicap ramp - this was not an easy repair and required good carpentry skills. He also installed new closet wood bi-fold doors in a basement bedroom. Again, not an easy task as they had to be “fitted” to the closet. His troubleshooting skills were evident here. He replaced two old light switches, four electric outlets, and a bathroom vanity light fixture. These were only a few of the things he did. Jenrii is very professional, polite, thorough, and responsive. He texted us each morning on the days he worked to let us know what time to expect him. He works quickly and does excellent work for extremely reasonable rates. I would not HESITATE to recommend him for small jobs to larger remodeling projects. I was a commercial real estate project manager for 15 yrs, building shopping centers and office buildings - so I can definitively say that Jenrri knows what he is doing and does it very, very well.

Josh came out and removed the cracked window and returned it same day with new glass. The price was fair. He had no problems with getting to the foyer window and quickly removed it. He is a very busy guy running between window jobs and the company location for glass repair but keeps a cheerful disposition. Good luck Josh. Enjoy your farm and stay Earth wise.......

We used Francisco on a commercial project with a very tight deadline. He was able to show up on time and knock out the work as quickly as we had hoped. We were short wallpaper from the beginning (supplied by our client), so he came back multiple times as we received more wallpaper to get the project completed for us in a timely manner so we could continue with the installation of millwork and trim.

Patrick did an excellent, standout job on ceiling and wall dry wall repair in our home. We had several leaks in our ceiling that resulted in dry wall damage. In addition to assessing the need for repair (How much damage? Was it still wet? Repair or replace?) he then showed up timely to view the areas. We had spots in two ceilings, including our bedroom, and two window areas. He did such a good job that we asked him to do major dry wall repair in an area where dry wall was cut to modify plumbing. The work was barely perceivable after he patched, sanded and painted it. He communicated throughout by text and phone, documenting the work, and left our home clean (he even cleaned up after a few other professionals who made a mess during their work). We came home knowing that the issue had been addressed and that our home was in good shape. We plan to have him bid on future jobs as well (he can also do other work outside of drywall) and have recommended him to others. A true professional and enjoyable to work with at a reasonable cost!

Last Spring, Brandon Contractor LLC completed several projects in my home with excellent quality and customer service! I had recently purchased a foreclosure and was looking for a reliable contractor to complete a few projects. Mr. Vega and I met so that I could share my vision for the projects that I wanted completed - a small window cut in the wall above the kitchen sinking looking into the living room, refinishing the front door, backsplash in the kitchen and painting the upstair hallway and stairway. We met to pick out materials and I was allowed to provide my input as well as receive suggestions from Mr. Vega that would improve the overall job. When the work begun, a possible concern was noted by Mr. Vega and his team with plumbing. It was addressed immediately. All of the projects were completed in a timely manner and I am extremely satisfied with the outcome! The team was professional, courteous and the pricing was great! I often receive complements from visitors to my home and I plan to use the company again in the near future to spruce up my patio. I highly recommend Brandon Contractor LLC for any of your home improvement projects!

Being a single woman you don’t know who to trust. From the time he walked in the door, I could see by how he presented himself in a respectful manner, that he respected my home. He offered to put covers on his shoes whereby he would not track dirt from the outside on my carpet. That morning I had left massages for several companies, who never returned my phone call. EGH services was the only company who responded in a timely manner, and provided excellent service, answering questions that I had. I would recommend and use EGH services, when I have other projects that I need help with.

Ordonez remodeling was excellent! I use him for both reaidential and commercial work. I am extremely fussy about finish work especially in my business. His work is very high quality. He was easy to reach and he kept in contact with me at every step. Always answered my texts or calls. Very reliable. Work was done on time and at budget. I have hired so many firms over 20 years and I am sticking with this one! Very professional I all aspects.

Sam came by to give me a quote on the various jobs I had for him. He definitely beat his competitors prices. Sam brought 2 guys to help him - they replaced 2 burners on my gas stove, patched and painted a few areas on my walls, replaced a light fixture, washed my windows, and replaced the seal on my walk-in shower. They had to go out to find the right pieces to fix the gas stove, but they went to 3 locations to find the pieces. They also weren't able to get my windows all that clean because they couldn't get the screens off my windows. I am not sure, but it is possible that someone specializing in window cleaning would have known more about my windows so that they could take the windows off and clean them. If I were to do it again, I would absolutely hire Sam to do the work at my house but I would hire someone else to clean my windows to see if they knew more about the type of windows on my house.

Henry and his crew did an outstanding job replacing the rotting boards on both our bay windows with composite material. They completed the work (including painting) in one day and the results look great. Their price was extremely reasonable.

I had a great experience with Window Source. From my first contact with them to the installation of my new front door, they were very responsive and professional. Many other companies in this industry play a lot of games with pricing, but Window Source gave me fair pricing with no games. The owner personally responded to all of my questions. On the day of my installation, the crew arrived early and did a great job installing the door. It's been almost a month since I got the new door and I'm very happy with it. I would highly recommend Window Source of Virginia.

I need to have just the top part of my double pain window glass replaced. I have great luck finding good companies here on Thunbtack and this company is at the top. They responded quickly. Stopped by to do a free estimate within 24 hours. The price was fair and it was order and installed by the end of the week. I will use them again for future projects.

Brennen and his team did a storm door, front door, and balcony sliding door replacement for me. The doors in my unit were falling apart and badly needed replacing (largely due to age.) They did an excellent job with the installation and the product is clearly excellent quality. I will caution that the products that they use (ProVia) are quite expensive relative to what I have seen with other companies, and therefore you should only go with this firm if you are prepared to pay for top of the line doors (not that they aren't worth the money, just that they are high-end). Further, Brennen and his team were quite responsive whenever I needed a response or update on something. Things moved a little more slowly than we had anticipated with getting approval from my HOA and so we missed the expected deadline for completion of this job by a few weeks, but that can be excused as this was not truly in the control of Brennen's team. That being said, they were quite good at getting all the documentation together and putting it in the hands of the HOA and my condo's management company, who had to do the approvals. If you are in the market for a door replacement, I would recommend Green Energy LLC again.

Phil @ the Home Doctor was absolutely great from start to finish. After sitting down and reviewing all the quotes and experiences I had with other companies, I realized the they were the only company that had my best interest in mind and not just theres... That combined with the final product looks amazing, I am recommending the Home Doctor to all of my neighbors and to anyone that wants a good work at a fair price!

Reasonable quote and professional installation of our basement exterior door. I would recommend Clear Choice of Maryland for any door installation work. Based on my experience with this door, I would not hesitate to use them for any window installation work we may have in the future.

Fred Muela from Liberty Windows and Siding Inc. gave us a fantastic quote to install all the windows and replace the siding. The price was better than other companies and the installation went smoothly. A few years later the trim coil (aluminum trim over the house wood trim) started to peel off in a few places. I contacted the trim coil manufacturer per Liberty Windows and Siding Inc warranty information/instructions and they were making me call one office after the other and eventually they did not stand behind their product and the warranty. I checked with Fred Muela and he sent someone to replace the trim coil at no charge. This is the type of company Liberty Windows and Siding Inc is. I was recommending them before and now is a no brainer to recommend them. We are very happy we chose them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
