  1. #1 Mediterranean Cooking

    Joe N.

I can't say enough good things about this experience. I purchased a three hour cooking class without Marilena as a birthday gift, and my girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. Marilena was incredibly responsive with finding a time that could accommodate us, and she offered to either come to our house or allow us to cook in her lovely home, which we chose to do. We got to meet her husband and one of her sons, and at no point was it uncomfortable or awkward. For the menu, we made fresh baguettes, pasta from scratch, Dover sole with a meunière sauce, and a fresh panzanella salad. She even taught us knife skills along the way to go along with several tips to improve our overall cooking abilities. The three hours were spent with a great balance between instruction, hands on learning, eating a delicious meal, and having a great conversation. Between Marilena's engaging personality and artful, patient instruction, it's hard to identify the best part of the experience, but we couldn't have walked away more satisfied with the food or the instructor. (Marilena, if you're reading this, thank you for sharing the red velvet cupcakes!).

Anna Stewart is a marvelous chef and my guests were so impressed with the menu. They exclaimed about the presentation and said it all melted in their mouths. Anna went above and beyond with her preparations and putting kitchen back in place before leaving. Many, many thanks to Anna. Fay Taylor

First impressions are lasting impressions and I would say my first impression of Chef JB is that he is the consummate culinary professional. Chef JB is very a knowledgeable, experienced and very patient culinary instructor. And most importantly, the end result of the cooking session is delicious food!!!!!!! I am so excited about taking lessons from Chef JB. I look forward to taking cooking lessons long term and hiring him for future events! He's a great find!

    Natalie A.

I've been an avid home cook for years but in just one class with Evan, I learned so many things that will make my cooking experience more fun and the meals I make more delicious. It's amazing how learning how to actually use a knife can speed things along! I took the class alongside my 14 year old son who has taken a reality show driven interest in cooking. Evan's class was great for both of us. My son learned a lot and is excited to continue his culinary journey. I so appreciate how he tailored the class to our needs. We are looking forward to more classes with Food's an Art!

Annie exceeded every expectation. Not only were here culinary skills exceptional, she added several special touches that made this our best Anniversary meal yet. She can customize the menu for any dietary restriction, and actually prefers to do so. We highly recommend Annie for any occasion and only hope that we can do it again! Delicious food, exceptional service. She cooked a 6 course meal in our home kitchen. She homemade everything she could from bread and butter down to picking the first baby lettuce leaves from her garden. I don't want to give away her tricks, but there were several surprises throughout the night that showed how much she cares about her craft.

  7. #7 The Greek Chef

    (4 reviews)

    Anthony A.

Wow. I can't say enough about this guy! This will be a horrible review - don't read it. I am hesitant to even write a review as I don't want him to have any other student but me! :) First, Tony was awesome to talk to initially- so easy going. Then we booked a time on the phone, he confirmed. He was on time (early even as I told him I was home all day). He started our class by saying: "Today we are going to cook like our grandmothers and great-grandmothers cooked," he's Greek and I'm Italian. "Cooking should be fun. Relax." He had a complete menu planned for me to learn - we were adventurous and covered many items: We made fresh cheese, we made tzatziki - the best I ever had, even in Athens and Mykonos - and "I" made it. We made hummus, we made rustic bread, we made Papoutsakia ( I think that's the name ) - eggplant stuffed with ground beef covered in Mornay Sauce. Yes, we made one of the Mother Sauces from scratch in my first class. Boy, my arm hurts from stirring. We didn't use recipes and mostly we didn't measure most ingredients. As we used ingredients he asked me: Do you know how this cheese is made? Do you know where this is from? Do you know WHY we do this? As we made each dish, he taught me techniques like properly slicing, dicing and mincing the onion. He is also a true food historian and an amazing person. The food was incredible and he was awesome. Another thing that made me skeptical about him (don't hire him) is I THOUGHT he had an aversion to garlic. Who doesn't love garlic! He didn't put enough into the dishes, or so I thought. He said: " Wait. This will become stronger as it sits." I didn't listen. He was absolutely right, however, I no longer have problems with Vampires. :) I have had the privilege to have many home cooking classes and private chefs cook for me and I have a nice kitchen setup - but this experience blew my mind. You can not go wrong with this man. (But don't hire him.) One other thing that caught my attention: Even though I had a few life distractions and had to take a call here and there or answer the door for the Fedex® guy - he NEVER looked at his watch or was distracted. I consider Tony a true friend already and will be seeing him for another class in less than 24 hours. I can't wait and won't sleep in anticipation. I hope this review makes you stay far away from this man! (Do not hire him, he's all mine! :) I'm giddy just thinking about our menu for tomorrow which includes a Greek version of bruschetta with imported bread that he got for me from the Greek grocery, tomatoes, and the homemade cheese that we made that is hanging in my Subzero now. Plus, grilled spatchcock Peri-Peri Chicken, Caesar Salad (my request, I want to perfect it) and a Greek Baked Potato which sounds amazing and I can't pronounce (yet). We'll end with Ginger Blood Orange Granita. I'm sure I am leaving something out - Tony really pushes you to shine. In conclusion, this is the WORST instructor on the planet, and you should NOT hire him (unless you want to learn A LOT, have loads of FUN, and make a wonderful FRIEND). Kudos to The Greek Chef. UNAVAILBLE FOR HIRE :)

  9. #9 Culinary Tradition Personal Chef Service

    (2 reviews)

    Julie W.

Chef Christoper Mcavoy is a passionate and talented chef who makes delicious meals. He has come to our home and exploded in our kitchen with all the necessary equipment and items to create mouth watering dishes. He does need a lot of room to spread out but always cleans everything up before he leaves. The house smells so good you feel like you are in an episode of one of the Cooking Shows, watching him prepare foods and dishes, juggling several things at once, and always turning out finished meals that taste wonderful. He is polite, straight forward and open to ideas. He is a bit hard on the stove top as he usually has numerous things cooking at the same time along with the oven going. But the house smells wonderful. The meals are usually large in quantity and always high in quality. He has definitely broadened our palate and introduced us to many new foods. He cooks with organic, natural and the freshest items, which sometimes makes him late in arriving, but always top shelf. We would definitely recommend him to others.
