We found out about Ryan when researching Northern VA dog trainers. We had a 6 month old German Shepherd and didn't know where to turn. To complicate things I was trying to also groom him to be a working dog which requires excellent obedience. After dropping a couple of hundred on a group class at Petco I feel we barely scratched the surface let alone had an obedient dog. Ryan offered exactly what we wanted. A reasonable intensive in-home solution that incorporated the whole family. Ryan was able to see how he interacts at home, on walks and we even go into public areas to increase socialization. After 6 weeks we have seen a dramatic change. K9 Sigmund is now even more prepared to start his career as a K9 SAR member thanks to Ryan.

Ryan is a very down-to-earth fun and hands on trainer from the very first session we could not believe the changes in our dog we had a rowdy six month old German Shepherd that was always nipping us never listening and getting into everything after the training sessions with Ryan he has done a 360 turn around Ryan stays with you teachers you and give you homework I definitely enjoy his training techniques and his company. I would highly suggest him to anybody who is considering training.

Ryan was fantastic. He was very accommodating with our busy schedules and was always available by text between lessons and promptly responded to any questions we had. We made fantastic progress with our 1.5 year old German shepherd mix over the six training sessions we had with Ryan. I would highly recommend Ryan to anyone looking for a more personalized training program. Thanks, Ryan!

Pippin was territorially aggressive, and I was having a hard time tackling his chow chow/german shepherd breeding with our other two dogs in the house. Denise was able to help us understand the problem Pippin was having as well as give us the tools to conquer those problems. Pippin has improved dramatically, and continues to improve as we continue to utilize the skills and techniques Denise taught us,.

This EXCELLENT review is a pleasure to write. Brian Hunter did a terrific job training our bright (though very prey-driven) German Shepherd, Joseph. Most helpfully, Brian also trained us. After 2 sessions, we were definitely more confident and understanding of our dear dog's supervision requirements. Brian's whole presentation was "top drawer". He homevisited us and pup, at no charge, to evaluate our needs and discuss a plan. (We were free at that time to decline his services if we felt they would not be helpful.) He provided written materials about dog behavior, and about how to follow through on lessons. His manner was always respectful - toward people AND animal. He focused on results. He arrived on time, did not hurry through the lessons. He encouraged us to keep in touch with him, seek his help for behavior problems and concerns. His fee was more than reasonable. Prong collar? Gone. Perpetually raised voices ("NO!", etc.)? Gone. Dread of simple walks in the neighborhood? Gone. Joseph is happy. We are thrilled. We recommend dog trainer Brian Hunter without hesitation. Thank you, Brian. S. Zator, H.Merritt, Joseph Towson, MD

On Sunday I researched dog trainers via thumbtack and with only a few hours Mr. Hunter replied back! Talk about a quick response! We were able to schedule a consultation with him that following Tuesday. We are in the middle of a 2 week trial adoption with a husky mix (Sokka) and needed guidance on how to introduce him with our cats. Sokka is a very friendly dog and is so curious. We wanted to learn how to calm him before meeting our cats. Mr. Hunter is very professional. He was able to show us the dog's potential. He gave us great tips on how to correctly walk with a leash with little to no pulling. He would show us first and then have us do it. If any corrections were needed, he did not hesitate to tell us. You can tell this is his passion. Definitely recommend him! Did I mention he travels to your house?! Talk about convenience!

We had Brian come to the house to help with aggression towards visitors. After watching our dog for a bit, he was able to give us a simple technique to use. It's been two weeks now and she is much better. She almost corrects herself when she acts up. I also had Brian meet me at a park to deal with aggression towards other dogs. Again simple techniques that really made a difference. Very important note: It only took Brian a very short amount of time to handle my German Shepherd. She warmed up to him almost immediately. Trust with a trainer is very important.

We contacted Jerry to help us with difficulties our rescue senior German Shepherd was having adjusting to our newborn baby. So far we have had a wonderful experience working with Jerry and our dog loves him. Before we met with him in person we had several phone consultations which were incredibly helpful. Jerry is very professional, patient, and skilled in dog psychology. He conducted a thorough evaluation of our dog and current home situation. He spent a long time with us and we worked together to develop a personalized training plan that fit our family's needs. Thus far our dog has made measurable progress using the techniques Jerry has taught us and we now have many tools to continue with training on our own. Jerry has been readily available by phone, email, and text between sessions for additional consultation as needed. It is clear that Jerry loves what he does!

JoJo was such a huge help with training my newly adopted dog and helping her get along with my older dog. My new dog had food aggression issues and would bite my other dog and myself, but JoJo offered many ideas to help and after trial and error with the different options, it finally worked and now both dogs get along great and there has been no aggression! She helped greatly with basic dog training as well. I also learned how to be a leader for my dogs and JoJo provided many leadership skills for me to work on and owns dogs listen so much more. I felt so overwhelmed when I adopted the second dog but JoJo has definitely helped to improve my leadership skills in order to help my dogs.

Jo came to my house for some basic training guidance for my dog Olive. She was excellent with Olive! She gave me some really great advice, showed me some of the simple mistakes I had been making, and really helped us to control Olive when people come to the door and also when she is on the leash. I would recommend Jo to anyone looking for some one-to-one training for their dog!

Accommodated a last minute new client. Arrived on time. She was able to get our 5 month old German shepherd mix to start listening to commands right away and made sure we understood everything before she left. She even told us to call her if we had any questions. Will definitely be calling her for another session and will recommend to others!

After searching multiple sites and trying out two other trainers, we found Kimberly on Thumbtack and liked what we read. Her "holistic" approach to dog training really appealed to us and aligned perfectly with our view of the connection between nutrition, physical and mental health, and behavior. When we did the IBAC, we immediately felt a click between the three humans (Kimberly + puppy parents) and Lucy (puppy). Through our work with Kimberly during the training sessions and our practice at home, Lucy has become more calm, responsive, and seems now to recognize us as the "pack leaders". One of the most important lessons we learned is that adjusting on our own energy and behavior is key to effect change in our dog's energy and behavior. It is important to bear in mind that no trainer - no matter how good - can make a dog's behavior change consistently and permanently after the training program without the owners' follow-through. With Kimberly's guidance and our constant practice, we're confident that we will continue making steady progress and nurture a balanced, well-behaved dog and a loving, respecting bond between us.

My sister and I first approached PackFit in 2014 for help with our Chihuahua Mix – her name is Mandu – that we had adopted from the shelter. She was terrified of anything that moved and coped by barking. We tried different methods that other dog trainers offered to no avail. Ms. Kimberly is excellent with both dogs and people – her dedication to them is awe-inspiring. The time and effort she’ll put into making your life and your dog’s life better shows her passion to her cause: “training dogs, empowering people, and changing lives.” PackFit offers more than dog training; PackFit gives you a role model that will help you with your own issues – without you even noticing – so that your dog won’t feed off of those anxious and negative cues. Now, this doesn’t mean that Mandu and I are perfect after our in-home sessions with Ms. Kimberly. However, two years later, we’re still taking baby steps in the right direction. I miss Ms. Kimberly and her own pack ever since our in-home sessions ended but thanks to her, Mandu and I are slowly conquering our fears.

I've had one lesson with Kimberly and wished I had contacted her sooner to get started on training my German Shepherd rescue. What I like best about Kimberly's approach is her care and attention for the well-being of my dog. Working with Kimberly has helped me to understand that an obedient dog isn't necessarily a happy or well-adjusted dog. Kimberly's method of training takes in the "whole dog" concept addressing nutrition, mental, and physical fitness. As a new dog owner she's helped me to understand how to interpret my dogs behavior and what my dog needs from me as the pack leader. Training is fun, the homework is simple and Kimberly is always on hand to answer a question. The welcome package (lots of goodies) she provided exceeded my expectations and Kimberly has become my "go-to" for additional resources for my dog.

I hired Hillel to help me train my 5 year old German shepherd to walk on a leash. She would pull, lunge and bark excessively at other dogs and people as we passed them. In just one visit we had her walking quietly and by my side. I was amazed. He did a great job at training her and showing me how to handle her. I would definitely recommend Hillel.

I purchased the six week training package with Vicky. On the initial meet and greet I could already see that she had a good rapport with my dog. After the initial meeting we set up a regular date/time and Vicky was always vigilant on sending a reminder text the day before to confirm our appointment and she always arrive on time every time. Vicky does an excellent job in guiding you to train your animal, she provides both positive feedback on the things that you and your animal are doing right and what needs to be corrected. She was able to successfully correct the main issue that I had with my dog which was pulling on the leash.

We sent our Boston Terrier, Rex, to Citizen K9 for the 2 week boot-camp and he came back a reformed dog. Rex's main issue was that we had never established the house hierarchy and therefore he thought he was in charge and didn't need to listen to anyone. Combine that attitude with endless energy and it didn't make for a positive situation. With a new baby at home we knew that Rex needed serious training (and we did too). Andrew fulfilled all our needs. He came to our home in Arlington to pick up Rex, sent us short updates and photos during the two weeks Rex was with him, and brought him back at the end of the program. During the drop off he spent several hours with us going over everything Rex had learned and what we needed to do to maintain the training. Andrew was very professional and thorough throughout and never passed judgement on the bad habits that we as dog parents had established with Rex. Some highlights of the new and improved Rex are that he now walks at our side with no pulling, stalling, or getting worked up by other dogs or people; there is no more chasing him around the house to put his leash on or get him in his kennel; he goes to his bed on command when we need him out of the way when guests arrive or he is getting too rowdy; and he follows sit, down, and stay commands. It requires ongoing work on our part to make sure Rex doesn't fall back into some of his bad habits, but Andrew did a great job of getting Rex and us on the right track. We wouldn't hesitate to send Rex back to Citizen K9 for boarding or a training refresher if needed as he clearly loved everything about his time with Andrew.

Citizen-k9 and Andrew were very successful with my two rescue dogs, a Weimaraner and a Weimaraner mix, this spring. I was looking for one professionally trained and educated, experienced trainer working with the dogs in a live in situation. When he came we discussed the goals I desired for them and the reasons. He sent me photos showing tremendous progress during their training. Andrew returned two beautifully trained girls to me, and the relationship I now have with them is better than ever after their training. He provided assistance with the transition of his training to me to maintain consistency and ensure further success for the girls. With Citizen-k9 you absolutely get what you pay for, dog training by a true professional that has a thorough understanding of dog behavior and will go beyond time frames and boundaries to do his utmost for the benefit of the dogs. This is well worth the investment put forth for the happy future of the dogs and your relationship with them. Any other dogs down the line for me will have Citizen-k9 a part their lives to ensure they love life as dogs and that we can experience this together.

My husband and I would definitely recommend Andrew at Citizen K9 for boarding services. I had never left my doberman/shepherd puppy and left her for the first time for a few days with Citizen K9 over the summer. Great experience! They have a large fenced in yard for the dogs to play. They even sent pictures of her playing with the other dogs to me via text to let me know how she was doing. We have already made our next boarding appointment for a week in November! Thanks Andrew!

We were at our wit's end when we found Enrico Cross. We owned a German Shepherd but the introduction of another German Shepherd to the family was not going smoothly - I think the two of them would have tried to kill each other had they gotten together. After about three weeks of this, we were at the point where we were thinking of returning the newest dog when we decided to consult with Enrico and sign up for one of his classes. We had to take the two dogs in separate vehicles. In the span of one class session, Enrico had the two dogs side by side. He then taught us commands that every dog owner should know and a technique to make them stick. He also worked with us to keep us from transmitting our own bad "body language" to the dogs. Our two sheps eventually bonded so tight you would have thought they were from the same litter. I would recommend Enrico without any reservation and do so whenever i meet someone who has gotten a new dog. Don't waste your time with pet store training.

Enrico Cross gave me an amazing gift. It was an 8 year old Belgian Malinois that he had owned and trained. She has been the most amazing dog because she had been trained so well. This dog lives to please me. If I drop something she immediately gets it and waits patiently for me to notice that she is sitting at my feet holding the object. I need not worry that she is by my side off leash. Celine is now 13 years old and when she goes I will be devastated. We have given her the retirement she deserves and she has given us her loyalty.

I am so grateful to Julie of PuppyLovin for her work with my dogs and can not recommend her and her services highly enough! Julie loves and cares for my dogs like they’re her own, and they adore and respect her back. She has been taking care of them for 2.5 years now, providing them daily walks during the workweek that feature exercise, adventure, and training, and boarding them often at her place when I travel. Of the numerous area dog care providers I’ve used over the past 7 years, Julie is hands-down the best and I’ve not considered using anyone else since I met her. What she has provided that the others have not is knowledgeable, consistent training, in particular for my anxious rescue mutt. The change in him through Julie’s loving but disciplined care and expertise has been remarkable -- he’s become much more relaxed overall, and now welcomes comfort and takes my lead when he’s anxious rather than acting out. He’s truly a changed dog, which brings me such relief! Both of my dogs have also become much better walkers and much better behaved when in proximity to other dogs, all thanks to Julie, who has involved her own dogs in the training of mine, to great effect. Julie is very generous with her time -- she updates me on her progress and explains what I can do to ensure I get the same great results she does. I’m confident you won’t find a more caring, committed, and professional trainer to work with you and your dog(s)!

My husband and I have been so lucky to have found PuppyLovin and Julie! Our German Shepherd Ritter has received training, boarding, and daycare services with Julie. Most importantly he loves going to spend time with her. To see Ritter, who is always glued to my Husband and has suffered from separation anxiety in the past, excitedly run to her and forget my Husband exists when he is dropped off is wonderful beyond words. Not only do I know that my beloved fur baby is having lots of fun, but he is being treated like he is her own pet. I am thrilled that he is in a warm and personal environment. PuppyLovin doesn’t just provide the pet services we need at truly affordable rates, but Julie is always available to answer training questions and accommodate any last minute needs. PuppyLovin goes above and beyond to not just care for pets but to care for owners. In addition to boarding and daycare, we have received help training Ritter to walk nicely besides a stroller as we’ve recently welcomed a baby to the family. Ritter always receives exceptional care, and I truly consider PuppyLovin to be Ritter’s home away from home.

Julie will cater her services to the needs of your dog and develope comprehensive plan for your pet.

I can honestly say that my husband and I started with another training place, that did not give us what we were looking for in training our 9 mth old german sherpard. When we first meet Haywood we went away with a very good feeling. With a bad back and a large dog who pulled so much that I couldn't walk her. After 3 sessions I was able to walk her!!! I found Scott and Jen through Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue where I got my dog Stark as a LARGE puppy. MAGSR routinely send their "difficult" rescue cases to S&J for training prior to being adopted. I found their trust in these excellent trainers entirely well-founded. I selected the Board and Train option which is two weeks of intensive training with the result being dogs that are obedient and off-leash. They will teach your dog basic and advanced commands which are appropriate and useful for any dog owner. They also build confidence (a huge part of what my dog needed). They will send you daily pictures, videos, and progress updates while your pup is with them. When I picked up Stark, they gave me two hours training on what he had learned and the correct way to handle him with the e-collar. They are very clear and emphasized that the program is most successful when the owners put in a little time each day for two weeks or so reinforcing the commands in their "new" environment (e.g. at home with me). I worked with him pretty diligently and he has been fantastic! My 100lb German Shepherd is always the best behaved dog in the park and on the street (don't belive me? Come to Patterson Park NW side around 530-630pm any day of the week and see for yourself). He has grown in confidence and skill, making my life and experience exercising him much much better than before training. After training, I still had a problem with Stark's protectiveness of my home (he is a GS after all) especially with the dog walker. Scott and Jen immediately responded with advice and came to Baltimore (seriously!) to work directly with the dog walker. They had the problem cleared up in about 15 minutes. I can't recommend these guys enough, and I have tried. They are great humans, dog lovers, and most importantly, excellent trainers.

We have a 7 month old German Shepherd dog named Bella, who is still mostly puppy, although at 60 lbs, a big puppy. Since Bella is a rescue dog we wanted to try the puppy consultation first. We met with Jen and were immediately impressed with her ability to read our dog and the depth of training available to us should we want to pursue it. We took advantage of their 2 week board and train program this July and were very pleased with the results. Bella improved 100%. We've even had a follow up class to evaluate our progress and do some fine tuning. I retired from a career in law enforcement and have had dogs my whole life. I am beyond picky when it comes to training and refuse to board anywhere till I met Scott & Jen. They both took care of our dog as if Bella was family. Not only are they good at what they do, but I trust them with our dog. I look forward to working with them in the future. jmacs

Scott and Jen are fantastic trainers. The work they did with our 11mo. german shepherd during the 2week board and train program was amazing. Our dog did not come when called and was very reactive around other dogs. Lila is now a great companion who listens well and has more confidence. She is not reactive to dogs anymore which has transformed our walks and trips to the park. Their program and training really work - they are highly recommended!!

My husband and I - and our young male white shepherd - were beyond happy with Dr. Caryn's learning sessions at our house over six sessions of training. She was always clear about what she wanted us to accomplish with our puppy and worked hard to make it work for us. If you are looking for the trainer who can make the impossible possible, Jack is your trainer. My dog Zeus (German Pinscher) was a vicious dog with multiple behavioral problems. We tried different trainers, but we thought things were hopeless. After losing all hope, we were at the point of returning Zeus back to his breeder, but we decided to give one last try and hired Jack. Thanks to his methodology and vast experience, we started to see changes almost immediately, after the very first class. His personal commitment and dedication to classes is also outstanding. He loves dogs (he has his own pack of 8), he loves teaching and he is just a very, very good person. Therefore, if you are looking not for just a dog trainer, but for a good one with a very positive personality and with broad experience, Jack is for you.

My husband and I don't have enough good things to say about K-9 Kollege. The trainers have been able to help us with our adopted pups and their knowledge has been indispensable. We only wish we knew about them before bringing home our first rescue. Luckily the trainers stepped right in to help correct some concerning behaviors after having our first for just a few months. What was prob most enjoyable was getting to watch each pup grow progressively more confident. We've adopted 2 nervous dogs, both in different ways, and now we have 2 of the most confident and we'll trained dogs. We get compliments wherever we go on how well behave they are. They sure make our lives more enjoyable!

We had three sessions with Siree and with each visit our puppy's behavior improved drastically. She has realistic expectations for the dogs, and parents. Most of the time it is a matter of training the dog parent(s) rather than the dog itself. She will give you "homework" to do throughout the week until the next visit and if you commit to doing exactly what she says then you WILL see improvement. Our Boston Terrier was a rambunctious ball of energy and it was difficult to gain control of her at times and now we can enjoy her and can curtail her energy. Throughout the week I got additional suggestions from Siree. If something just flat out wasn't working then I would text her and she would promptly send me new suggestions. What I liked most was that she was a "positive reinforcement" trainer as opposed to a physical form of punishment trainer. The most physical form of training we used was the prong collar for walking on a leash purposes and I would hardly consider that physical. It mimics a mother dogs bite and it quickly gets the attention of your puppy. I would absolutely recommend Siree. Just do the exercises she gives you and stay consistent and you will see improvements.

I hired ms. Shindle to train my German Shepard and she was absolutely wonderful. She showed me new ways to train my dog and not only worked with me but was wonderful with my dog. It was amazing to see the way my dog reacted to her and listened to her from the moment she approached him. She also gave me exercises to work with him on without her present and it's like my dog is a completely different dog! If i ever have any questions in the future regarding any of my dogs I will defiantly be using Ms. Shindle and would recommend anyone having behavioral issues or that requires any type of training for their dogs contact her, she has even made herself available to me through talking to me and guiding me through things over the phone. My experience with this trainer was excellent. Thank you Ms. Shindle you have truly made our family a much happier place and I'm amazed at the difference in my dog since our session. Thank you!

My husband was looking for a dog that would be a deterrent to trespassers etc. The breed recommended to him was a Belgian Malinois. We did some research and acquired a beautiful dog with a great personality. I've always trained our dogs and soon realized this breed was quite different from the dogs I had in the past. Lucinda was recommended to us and as a bonus she owned a Malinois herself. We met, and I found her to have an honest and unique personality. What sets her aside, (besides how great she is with the dogs), is the way she reads the strengths and weaknesses of the dogs owners. She has a way of delivering the information along with a mental example that really sends you the message/technique she's trying to convey with clarity. I find this priceless. If she can't leave you with the tools to continue the training on your own what's the point?

After adopting a 5 year old Husky last year, Tail Wags Canine Training helped us with the adjustment period for Koda and gave us invaluable advice on how to integrate her into our family. We have two cats, one of which is diabetic, so it was important to us that she be a good fit and that everyone get along. Tail Wags not only helped with that, she put Koda through obedience training, making her an easier dog for our now 11 year old son to handle on his own. Knowledgable in the psychology of dogs makes this trainer outstanding when it comes to helping us know the right ways to reinforce good behavior and positive habits for our beautiful Koda.

I had my Gretchen in for training and what a huge turn around it was. She is a German Shepard/ Black lab mix and she is doing amazing when it comes to commands.

Felipe is well qualified and highly interested in the weekly progress of my lab mix. He is serious about getting her to learn new behaviors and enabling me to train her. The training is performed by me under Felipe’s tutelage, rather than by him, which would not accomplish the training objective. He is good at teaching and showing me what I need to do to train my dog. Felipe is able to get Tippie to do tasks immediately and then teaches me how to get her to do them. After three weeksTippie has learned to walk beside me instead of pulling on the lead and to sit, pay attention to me, stay, come to me, heel, stop next to me on a walk, come at my whistle, and get down from a sofa. Felipe truly loves dogs, and Tippie has had a good rapport with him from the start. Felipe is pleased with each of her successes and checks on me to make sure I do follow-up practice with her between weekly visits. He is able to answer my questions and is willing to go forward with extra tasks I may need Tippie to learn or that I have taught her ahead of schedule. I highly recommend Felipe. Ty

Felipe is a fabulous trainer! Altho he is only working with Koda, my German Shepherd, both my dogs just love him and are so excited to see him at the door. He has trained Koda to walk at my pace instead of pulling and chewing on the leash--very important for an 80-pound dog! I would recommend Felipe without reservation to anyone who needs help with dog-training or walking/exercising. He is the best!!

That the Dude, over 100 pounds of German Shephard Dog, knows how to behave is attributable to Michelle Jackson's training. She taught me how to work with him, while giving him an opportunity for socialization with other dogs. He responds well to her, even after a long absence, and does all of his behaviors --sit, stay, come, down, etc. -- better after a session. I only wish we had started with her when he was a little puppy.

Michelle is extremely professional and took great care in delivering her training both for our pet as well as for the family members. She is just awesome! We wold recommend her to anyone who is looking to get some help with pet training. every session was followed by an email detailing the steps covered during the training process, as well as open to answering any questions we had. We highly recommend her.
