Professional service and affordable price -- The quality of the experience with this moving company was top-notch from beginning to end. We received an honest upfront bid for our work and follow-up communication to coordinate the move was outstanding. Our movers showed up on time and completed the move well under the time estimate during the bid process. The movers were very professional and treated our household items with due care. We had nothing damaged in the move and they packed and unpacked items directly as we wished. We could not be happier with our experience and would recommend this company to anyone without hesitation.

I would recommend this moving company to the next person that I heard needed a service. This company went well beyond my expectations . I was having work done on my condo and ran into some problems in which I had to reschedule twice and Greg was able to accommodate twice. With moving as stressful as it is he put me at ease. The movers arrived on time, introduced themselves they were fast and efficient . They asked questions as to what goes and what stays. I actually thought I was getting two movers but I got three a nice bonus. They took apart my bed . The rates for this company were what was stated, very reasonable. Greg was a great communicator and I would again recommend this moving company.

I have used many movers from the largest to the smallest. This was by far the best experience with a moving co! From Kimberly who was wonderful with explaining every step of the move to the moving day. Movers were professional, courteous...showed extreme care with all our possessions. No question would use them over and over again. Also received a call from the office on day of move to ask how it was going...who does that it any more? Thank you!

Movers were very nice and wrapped the furniture nicely. Booking the movers was also very simple. However, the movers brought a truck that was too small and this was after visiting the property and giving an estimate. Movers were also slow unloading the truck.

First Harvest Movers & Cleaners are a one of kind team. By far the best moving company I have ever used in SWFL. They are professional, hard working, take pride in what they do and we’re very careful with all my items. They made sure all items were wrapped carefully, all glass safely protected and put in a safe place. They are a very efficient team. They work hard until the job is done and with no breaks during my 2.5 hr. move. What my previous movers did in 5hrs to move me in....First Harvest did in 2 1/2 hrs after I accumulated much more stuff including a room full of baby items. They are fair and if I was in SWFL and had to move again, I would definitely hire them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I have moved 6 times in the last 10 years and have had some really bad movers in the past. I am always nervous when movers show up. I have had them late and lazy. I hit the lotto with 1st choice moving. Rikk and his crew were true professionals. They showed up on time and ready to work. It down poured the entire move and these guys didn't miss a beat. On top of being extremely kind to my wife and kids while working around us, they did not put a scartch on anything I owned. I cannot thank these guys enough for making my moving day painless. They turned a hard move in the rain into a quick painless job. I will be telling everyone I know to call them. Awesome price and can't beat the quality and experience they have.

This moving company went above and beyond my expectations. They were so great. Derek, Greg, and Caesar were punctual, got to work right away, and hustled the whole time to avoid added expenses. The owner/manager Johnny was great from the first time I spoke to him on Thumbtack. He kept me informed from the day I scheduled with him. They took such great care of all of our possessions by wrapping them up. They were organized, polite, and professional. I was only expecting two movers, but I ended up with three at no extra cost! This is my first experience with movers, and I am so glad I chose Key Moving. The key to a good moving service is hiring the right movers, and I am so glad I chose them! The price was a set flat rate fee, so there were no hidden fees or complication to the process. Thank you guys so much!

It blows my mind when Affordable moving systems gets a bad review from someone. I have hired them 4 times in the past. Each time these guys deliver exactly what they promise. With time, I feel like they are only getting better and better. Even during my last move, the movers showed up exactly on time. They were working with clinical precision while packing and loading all my valuables. I am yet to have any hiccups with my moves when this company is handling it. In my book, Affordable moving systems is the perfect moving company.

Safeguard Van Lines had all the details for my move organized. They sent their crew a day early to pack me up. They took extra steps such as sweeping up their mess before they left. When the movers arrived the next day for the move they were on-time and appeared to be professional. They asked me if I was excited to be moving. The Customer Service department did a great job communicating with me and the crew. Beau, Robbie, and the others weren’t great. They were the glue that held everything together. The whole bill wasn't too bad, they didn’t collect any money from me until moving day. Not even a deposit! First time for that. The truck gave me a call when when they were an hour out from my Apartment. My items arrived safely and intact to my new home. Again, I’m so thankful I chose them.

These guys are GREAT! My original movers cancelled due to truck issues the day before my move and I had to scramble to find a new company. I got several quotes from local companies but Eagle's qoute stood out to me. Very straight forward pricing and seemed very easy to work with. Hank and Mike D. were exactly as advertised - professional, clean-cut, friendly and knowledgable. They worked hard the whole move without taking any breaks and made my move EFFORTLESS. I do not plan on moving again but I know who I am calling first next time. Thanks Eagle Movers!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
