Julio did an excellent job withe various projects I had waiting for him. He arrived on time, is a hard wirker, professional, and very kind. He dismounted a large, heavy plasma tv from the wall, and patched and painted the holes left not only from the mounting system itself but also from the holes cut to hide the tv wires. There is NO trace of evidence that a tv once hung on the wall. He also expertly repaired holes in a bedroom door. I thought I'd need to replace entire door but after Julio repaired it, once again, thete is NO evidence that anything was ever wrong with the door. He also repaired ripped screen door & a sliding door. I was very satisfied with his work. You can't go wrong hiring Julio!

Ken Miller replied to my inquiry fast and gave me his phone nbr to discuss more detail what I was looking for. We agreed on a day and time and he called on his way over and was right on sked. When I first talked to him I only needed a new outdoor wall lamp installed by the front door. The night before the pull chain on one of my ceiling fans in the Sun-room broke and the other unit hadn't worked in over a year. Mr Miller noticed after taking the cover off that this fan had more problems than just a pull chain. Both fans were old and worn out. I agreed the two of them did not always working should be replaced. Previous owner and who ever did the electrical wiring had each of the two fans wired differently. One you pulled the chain to turn on the light and used the switch on the wall to turn on the fan. The second fan was the opposite..Wired to use wall switch to run fan and pulled chain to turn on lights. We were always getting confused and pulling the wrong chains. Mr Miller rewired and made put two switches on the wall so that either or both fan /elec could be operated from there. Next installed two more outdoor lamps for my garage. They look great ..and All he did def made My Day and my two dogs. They will enjoy being out in the sun-room now with cooler air. Thanks Again Mr Miller... I def will pass the word around and call you for my next project. Cheers Mason Klein/Ocala

Keys Home Services installed crown molding in our den. The services started very good by answering my call promptly and coming the same day to give an estimate. I accepted their estimate which was very reasonable and work was scheduled at that time. They called on the morning the work was scheduled to let me know they would be there on time. Work was completed to my satisfaction. They were very neat and clean. I will probably hire them again to install cabinets and bathroom vanity.

Summary: Nicol is a wonderful electrician and handyman who will no doubt exceed your expectations. I hired him to mount a flat screen TV and soundbar, patch a destroyed piece of dry wall, and run a power outlet behind the TV so the wires could be hidden. His price is fair; his enthusiasm for his work is unrivaled; and his dedication to his craft is unparalleled. Details: A week ago, I posted a job on Thumbtack getting quotes for mounting a TV. Nicol responded with a quote that I thought was fair. But then I figured I could try doing it myself with a coworker and save myself a few bucks - big mistake. I ended up mounting the TV off balance. In the process, I destroyed a patch of drywall, and ran an extension cord through the wall by cutting through a stud near a fireplace. Then I came to my senses when it hit me that running an extension cord through the wall is probably not the smartest idea, especially when its near a fireplace. So I posted a job again on Thumbtack asking to use something I found on Amazon that supposedly was safe to run power through the walls. Nicol contacted me and shared his expertise - said that his advice was free and he can teach me how to do it right. Basically, the safest way to run power through the wall is having an actual outlet using proper Romex cable. After evaluating my options, I oped to hire Nicol to do the job the right way. He came in, evaluated the damage and gave me a quote for his services. It was absolutely fair. After I hired him, he communicated with me when he was on the way, brought all of the proper tools, and got to work. It was a 9 hour job and Nicol did it masterfully. He patched the stud I had drilled a hole through, ran the power outlet the right way, fixed the mounting issue, and patched the dry wall. Then he went the extra mile by painting the dry wall for me, and fixing the positioning of the sound bar so that all of its cables ran through the wall too. In the end, I could not be any happier. My living rooms AMAZING. Without his help, it looked awful - not to mention, supremely unsafe. As I sit in my living room and type this review, I can't help but appreciate a job well done. A few final words -- when hiring someone to come inside my home to do a job, I look for three things: 1. How do I feel about the professional's expertise? 2. How safe do I feel around this person? and 3. Is this a person I can communicate with frankly and freely about what I want so that I get what I need? Well, Nicol hit it out of the park on all three fronts. I am glad I hired him. I will definitely hire him in the future for any electrical and handy man services. We lost heat on 2 electric base board heaters that we had installed this week by someone found off of another site. We needed these repaired asap since it was a bedroom being used. We only received one reply to our search. Granted it was 12:30 in the morning and we did not have much luck calling a few places local at that time as well. Erik and his son came out at 12:30 in the morning to look at them. He found a loose connection in the thermostat that was put in the wall by the other guy. There were in an out in an hour. Charged what I feel was more then a fair rate for the service call and no additional charge since they found the problem almost immediately. I would recommend C and S for service when you need it. They arrived promptly, explained what they were going to look at, went right to work, found the issue showed me what they were repairing and got it working. Most of all they replied during what they call after hours.

We're very happy with the drywall job that Hall Works completed in our kitchen. They were extremely polite, punctual and did quality work. At the last minute we asked them to add texture to a smooth wall and they happily did the extra work. We also hired Hallworks to install tile in our kitchen and they did a fabulous job. Will definitely use them again for our future home improve my projects.

Joseph Child is a very dedicated, professional, courteous and reliable individual. I initially hired Joseph to change my front door locks as well as lower some shelves and do some box rearranging in my guest room. He completed the work very efficiently. Since that time, I have utilized Joseph Childs for several other projects in my apartment, most recently the mounting of two televisions, one small one in my guest room and a larger TV in my living room. It is very important to Mr. Childs that he satisfies his customer. Throughout the latest project as well as the others, he constantly asked if what he was doing met with my satisfaction. I would definitely hire Joseph Childs again!

To whom it may concern: It is my pleasure to write this unsolicited letter of recommendation on behalf of Keith Scott. Keith was the general contractor for a remodeling project on the exterior of my house in the fall of 2014. I had no prior relationship with Keith, who was recommended by an architect friend of mine. The scope of the remodeling involved window replacement (22 windows and 3 patio doors), siding replacement (approximately 4000 sq. ft.), replacement of 2 decks along with installation of stainless steel cable railing, and roof replacement (approximately 2400 sq. ft.) for a three level house built in 1978. The project took 8 weeks and involved 4 work crews (carpenters, siding, painters, roofing) plus electrician and structural engineer, at a budget of just over $100,000. While major remodeling is inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Keith’s services as a general contractor were invaluable, and I am extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Keith top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently top notch. Keith used subcontractors who were knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in their respective trades. They were conscientious about following project specifications, and their work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work crews. Other than one relatively minor exception, which Keith promptly addressed once I brought it to his attention, the workmen whom Keith utilized were professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of the homeowner’s property and privacy. They had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. Their pride in their work was evident. They tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found them to be trustworthy, and my wife and I felt comfortable with allowing them access inside our home. 3. Project management and coordination. Keith’s prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of our project, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities of different work crews effectively. He remained closely involved in overseeing the project from start to finish. His excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills and commitment to follow-through are assets, which enabled him to juggle the extensive details involved in our project without missing a beat. Keith’s familiarity with building codes and dealing with city hall also facilitated a smooth and hassle-free process when it came to building permits and inspection. Keith Scott letter of recommendation Page 2 of 3 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the project, I was impressed with Keith’s commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. When situations arose where extra work needed to be done (because of hidden problems that were not apparent until work on the house had commenced), Keith either (if it was relatively minor) took care of it without charging me extra, or (if it was more extensive) involved me in an informed decision making process that culminated in a change order which was fair. In another situation in which I was not satisfied with the aesthetics of nail holes on the siding battens even though the latter had been installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, Keith agreed with me and arranged to have the nail holes filled and battens painted - a job which involved many additional hours - without passing the expense on to me. 5. Effective communication. Keith kept me closely informed of work crew schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of our project. His communication (whether by cell phone or email) was always clear, informative, and helpful. He was either available on his cell phone, or returned my phone call within 2-3 hours. We never had a single miscommunication throughout the 2-month project. His communication with the work crews was just as effective. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall, structural problems with the existing cantilevered joists for an upper deck), Keith worked diligently with me to identify a solution that was acceptable to me. He utilized resources effectively (e.g., enlisting the services of a structural engineer in a limited fashion) and creatively (e.g., identifying a special type of edge vent for my roof that had minimal overhang), and directed the work crew to make changes necessary for implementing the solution. 7. Responsiveness to homeowner’s needs and concerns. Keith’s commitment to homeowner satisfaction was evident in his actions. On the few occasions when I brought a request or concern to his attention (e.g., when I wanted the roofing done before all of the exterior painting was completed), he listened attentively, and always took appropriate action that demonstrated responsiveness to my needs or concerns. When the painting crew fell behind of schedule, Keith showed up on a Saturday and helped with the exterior painting. His service orientation is truly described by the motto: “The homeowner’s needs come first.” 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Keith gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the project. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. Same with the change orders. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Keith delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price. 9. Value. I had solicited three bids for my remodeling project. Although Keith’s bid was not the lowest, I am absolutely convinced that he delivered the best value (in terms of the work done) for the price. Keith Scott letter of recommendation Page 3 of 3 10. Sensitivity to worksite appearance and neighbor relations. Our project required a huge dumpster and a portable toilet (for the work crew), and there was very limited parking. Keith’s placement of the dumpster, portable toilet, and construction materials was based not solely on function and convenience, but showed a consideration for the aesthetics of the worksite. The work crew parked their vehicles in ways that were minimally disruptive to the neighborhood traffic, and their conduct never caused any discomfort to our neighbors. In the two months during this project, there was not one single neighbor complaint! Instead, three different neighbors passed on compliments about the work crews (e.g., “those guys really work hard”). In closing, I am very pleased with the final product which Keith was instrumental in delivering, and I am extremely impressed with his work as a general contractor. In a world where shoddy workmanship and poor service are unfortunately all too common, Keith is indeed a rare find. I have been a homeowner for over 30 years, and I took this unprecedented step of writing an unsolicited letter of recommendation for Keith because I believe that exceptional work should be recognized. I would not hesitate to hire Keith again, or to recommend him to my friends and neighbors. I recommend Keith Scott to you most enthusiastically, and without any reservations. If you have any questions about my experience with Keith, please feel free to call me. Thomas Mitchel A very satisfied homeowner

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

    • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
    • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
    • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
    • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
    • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
    • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
