Called Dee after receiving his information on Thumbtack, he came to my home the same day and gave an assessment on what needed to be done. He was prompt with his service, mowing lawn, trimming trees and treating those areas that were badly damaged. Not to forget cleaning up several bags of leaves. If you want excellent work...he's the guy!!!

I have more than one property and had one that needed immediate help. Sodding, mulching (I wanted to find black mulch to accent the property), trimming of trees and just all around yard fix up and clean up. I contacted Lous Quality Landscaping which is here on Thumbtack and he gave me a affordable quote and did an outstanding job! I have since called him for other work and each time he has been punctual, given me affordable quotes and has done excellent work! I even have trees that need special shaping on a property and he is does that, people compliment the yard when he is done. (I have pictures) I recommend him for all of your lawn care needs or even just a landscaping of lots, vacant properties or weekly maintenance, he's quite affordable. I also asked Lous Quality Landscaping about the review from the person who said they did not do a good job about sodding, he told me he had not seen it, but he told me he would say this, he said that he can put the sod down but it has to be watered frequently and daily to take, without proper watering and care from a client it (Sod) will die no matter how well he does the job. He also said he went out of his way to make the person happy and accommodated them several times. I told him you can try but you can't please everyone. That explained it for me. I am still using him and his company they do a great job! I am in the Orange Park and Jacksonville, FL area and not related to this man or this company and only see him when I have landscaping needs.

The 4 man crew showed up on time and did fast, efficient work. Hauled the trimmings away and left the area around the trees clean. Have hired them to come back every 6 months on a permanent basis. Highly recommended.

I recently moved here & my back yard was nothing but dirt & weeds. They resodded my entire back yard, moved a palm tree from front to back yard and cleaned up the front yard. He continues to come by and check the new grass. It is a joy to look at now. I am very pleased with the work.

Dan arrived and spent over an hour listening to our ideas and what we wanted as the final plan. He was patient and provided a cost and time estimate. We had a full yard irrigation system, trees manicured and new front lawn. He was delayed with changes my spouse requested and weather yet complete as planned although stretched into seven days. Dan and his crew were very professional and patient. Dan answered all our questions. The crew worked here for four days (as planned) and at the end of each day the yard was neatly organized, without trash. Our family and friends could get to the our doors without problems. Our landscape is beautiful! The crew were very clean and always removed trash and debris. The crew worked well together which made us feel at ease, our questions were always answered. Dan the crew leader was available after the job was completed, to answer more questions regarding our irrigation system. We are very pleased with our service and would recommend and hire again. suggest having a Hanlon's Landscaping sign to place on lawn to advertise during and after project. Several of my neighbors have given us compliments and asked who we hired. Yes we tell them :) Thank you!

Just got privacy fence done. Exactly what I was looking for in terms of style and professionalism. The vertical overlapping fence looks contemporary and very sturdy. The materials used will ensure the fence will last and will not decay in the way my old fence. Ron worked with me, and my limitations, for this project and around the time needed for removal of trees. Yeah, this fence looks really good.

Fabiano and his crew did an outstanding job on installing patio paver with seating wall and fire pit. They also installed (2) Washingtonia palms, (2) Pygmy and (4) podicarpus trees...Professionalism from beginning to end. I would highly recommend them!

Our Company has used Kevin with Above and Beyond Tree Service for over five years. We subcontract his services when tree work for our customers is more difficult than our scope of services can provide with lawn care maintenance. We will continue to use them for several reasons. First, we have found Above and Beyond to be more reasonable than any other tree contractor. Next, they have always delivered on the work quoted. Lastly, the company carries the insurances that are required by our carriers, providing us with necessary Certificates of Insurance by their insurance companies. I would highly recommend them for tree work without hesitation. Karen Helton Helton Lawn Service, Inc. Jacksonville, Florida

Quick and great work (even on a rainy day). We only had two of the "Tree" wise men, but they were plenty for the job at hand. The job was to trim 8 palms and 4 trees along with various side work. They came in the morning and spent about 6 hours on the job. They cleared the debris and waited for my inspection. Great job.

I highly recommend this company! There is no need to entertain any offer from another tree service. I wasted time with three other companies and Beaver Tree Service got a difficult job done while the others were over pricing, with a two month wait. Call them first, you will not be disappointed.

My dad got his tree Cut down a few weeks ago and decided to stump grind himself. I talked him out of it and found these guys. Now my dad is a contractor and a perfectionist. He was so impressed with the work he had to call me. It's like our (beloved) pecan tree was never even there. They even got some work from our neighbor because everyone was so impressed. This is top notch work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
