Slajden did an incredible job pressure washing our large brick patio and sidewalk. It took him nearly 5 hours but the final product is well worth it. He's giving an estimate to return and fill in sand and seal the brick pavers to improve the appearance and safety of the patio.

Project: remodel of entryway... Broken pavers to stone/tile walkway and entry. From the initial meeting to the completion of our project, Arnold and his sidekick David, were amazing to work with. The quality of their work and dedication to detail is spot on and exactly what we wanted. They are creative in their design and patient as they directed the vision for our project. We truly appreciate everything they did to improve the entryway to our home... It's simply beautiful!

A&G tiled master bedroom with wood look tile and family room with brick like tiles in herringbone pattern. Installers were professional, on time and worked diligently to finish job timely. The price was very reasonable and the finished product was excellent. I will definitely hire for future jobs. Also, installed crown molding in two rooms that looks amazing.

First he came over to see what work needed to be done and he estimated for free, after comparing it with other 2 companies I chose him because of the price and the good reviews and I am glad I did. He installed new floor at my house, also paint exterior and interior.(he gave me his discount for the paint) Great price and such a great quality work I highly recommend his company.

Dave and his brother did an excellent job in my house. They installed an electric fireplace and a wine rack in the wall, framed, stone tiled it, and replaced the lighting. They also installed a new tile backsplash in the kitchen. Their attention to detail, excellent vision and craftsmanship puts them above the rest of the contractors. Dave communicated very professionally: always answered my questions promptly and guided me if I needed help with a decision. Even though my timeline to finish the job was tight, Dave and his brothers worked diligently and finished the project ahead of schedule. I definitely recommend Dave to anyone who is looking for a quality contractor. Their price may be higher but the beautiful workmanship and a great customer service are worth the price tag.

We hired Jorge to install Hardwood floors, travertine floors, remove a built-in entertainmemt center, tile a shower and apply stone venneer to a fireplace. Everything came out really nice but I'll have to say my favorite were the wood floors. Outstanding job on the floors. We came across a few challenges with materials and he was able to work his magic so everything would be to our liking. They were always on time and very respectful. The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is because the promised delivery time was delayed a few days causing some inconvenience. I would hire them again and recommend their services to friends and family.

I have used, have plans to reuse, and will recommend A1 Handyman Home Improvement for any project you might have in mind, they are excellent! They remodeled two bathrooms for us at different times. They both were completed on time and within budget. My wife and I are still very pleased with how they turned out. For one friend they did a most excellent inside Travertine floor tile, painting, and landscape job which they still brag about it to this day. Another a large kitchen remodel, baby room, deck and pavers project. Top quality I must say. What I like best about A1 is that I perceive them to be perfectionist. That they have all a lot of tools, but did not bring any unnecessary tools into our home. That they clean up behind themselves, and that at least in our circle of friends we all feel we got our monies worth of service and much to our satisfaction. One other thing that I enjoyed by using A1 Handyman Home Improvement was their trust worthiness. I REALLY could leave them in my home alone and go to work etc. even go on vacation without fear of any kind of theft....I know, we have.

Eric did an incredible job in our new new home. Our existing floors were replaced with Travertine stone and the work was magnificent. Eric also replaced our base boards, expanded a closet, and our kitchen back splash. His work is impeccable and 100% dependable and always on time. My wife and I are small business owners here in Central Florida and we would recommend Contemporary Kitchen, Bath & Flooring, for your next home project...Much appreciated Eric! Richard and Denise

Could not have picked a better company. Very professional, excellent time management, and exceptional quality of work. I hired them to paint my whole house 3000sqft home with 20' great room ceiling, change all hardware to brushed nickel, replace all fans with new ones, install crown molding and paint all trim. The work was so professional that I have hired them to install granite tips in all bathrooms, laundry and kitchen. Redo cabinets and change out hardware for kitchen and baths including basksplash Once that phase is done we will be doing the 2nd phase of my renovation we will begin wood floors throughout and stone work. Definitely recommend. Very happy customer.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
