He was the first to reply to my request for furniture assembly job. This was within 30 minutes of my post. He was professional on the phone and in my home. He was available for my job quickly and showed up on time. Assembly of the Table Tennis table was done correctly and in a timely manner. Great care was taken by Manny in setting up the table without damaging it or other furniture and flooring nearby. I encourage you Manny for furniture and sport equipment. I would use him again and trust that he would do the job efficiently, correctly and professionally.

Having just bought a home in Micco I looked on Craigslist and found Martin's posting. He quickly provided a quote that seemed fair and agreed to begin work within a short time. I asked for an assortment of repairs. Martin hung cabinets and tiled a backsplash, rewired several areas and installed lighting, removed floor tiles and laid new ones. All his work was done when he said it would be done and to my specifications. Martin helped me chose correct materials at the store( we went together) and he also volunteered to take old stuff to the dump. There were a few things that needed to be done that he was honest enough to say that he would prefer to refer someone else with more expertise. Honest and proficient workers are a refreshing combination!!!! the people he knew were much like him...honest, good workers. I have called Martin on the phone since the completion of the work for advice and he continues to be helpful and professional. He stands by his work and will do a great job for you, too.

The team showed up on time, removed a collapsed awning from my second floor balcony, took the debris away, made some minor repairs, and cleaned up the mess. I was very pleased with the job they did.

Keith did a fantastic job...went out of his way to be helpful as well as doing quality work. I had maybe enough flooring to do all the rooms i wanted to complete and the materials i had were out of stock; Keith made a special effort to be as economical as possible and was able to end up with just enough to finish everything except the master closet. due to his expertise and willingness to take the extra time to be thoughtful, i only had to buy 4 more boxes instead of 12. Keith is extremely reliable, trustworthy and a man of integrity. for a single woman living alone, this made me feel very comfortable having him in my house every day for two weeks. i will definitely hire him again any time i have future needs around my house. i highly recommend hiring him.

We replaced carpet and hardwood with the new wood look porcelain tile before moving into an existing home which covered about 1300 sq ft. Eric consulted with us offering suggestions giving us the benefits of his experience. He gave us an accurate estimate of the time to complete the job. He is very thorough and particular about his work. The end result...the tile is beautiful.

In the past, I've hired contractors and had the worst experience, ever. A friend recommended Anthony and I'm so glad we hired him to help us finish up some incomplete projects in our house. He helped us knock down a wall to have a more open concept for our living room area, as well as put down our floors. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for someone reliable and does good work.

This young man did an excellent job , he regrouted my floors, , placed new tiles, , fixed a bathroom flooring problem from another "flooring " person. He takes pride in his work and it shows. Before he left I already had other projects that I was showing him I wanted to do, absolutely I'm rehiring him. He's also polite and very professional.

Mr Martinez did excellent work for us. In fact, we added a couple of additional projects for him we were so pleased with his work. One project was floor tiles that curved around a carpeted area which he cut beautifully. He listens to what you want and makes it happen. We will definitely be contacting him again for future projects.

I'm currently 8 months pregnant and wanted to get established with a cleaning service before the baby arrives. I love that there were 3 ladies cleaning so it didn't take too long as it can tend to with only 1 person on the job. I have mostly hardwood floors and loved that they had the right type of vacuum cleaner for the job. It seems like a lot of cleaners only have a standard vacuum cleaner which just blows the dirt around on hardwood. They even took all the cushions off my sofa and vacuumed the entire thing. Overall they were just super professional and did a fantastic job. My house was spotless when they left. I will continue using Ericarla and her team bi-weekly.

So I hired 3 floor guys to repair my whole living room floor and I’m here to tell you these guys were the real deal. I was highly impressed by the work Ruben and his guys did, they were punctual every time and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the work. They were very responsible as a whole and the price seemed very right for the work load. I would definitely be calling here guys for any other floor repairs I may need. I’ll highly recommend them to all my close friends and acquaintances.

Wow! Zack, Kirsten, and Daniel's team did a fantastic job on our home! My wife and I had luxury vinyl and bathroom vanitys installed in our home (over 2500 square feet) in Viera, and these guys were amazing! The part that surprised me was that I expected top of the line service for a $14,000 project, and they still managed to wow us with how they operated. Very hard workers, very polite, and cannot recommend enough! No regrets, we'll never use anyone else.

Bill Fatula of Billfish Flooring did a beautiful job of installed natural bamboo flooring throughout my 1350 square foot 3rd floor condo which consists of 5 rooms & 3 closets. Bill removed & disposed of old carpeting & kept the job site neat during all phases of the work. The new flooring was laid taking expansion & moisture considerations into account so that the floor looks as nice & flat 3 years later as the day completed. Bills 30 plus years of experience shows looking between rooms where all floor boards are laid in one direction with no sills between rooms. Bill found a sound damping cement to address sound issues for the condo below. The flooring came out absolutely beautiful & Bill was good to his estimate for both in time and money to complete the job. Bill has a wonderful can-do attitude and anybody using his skilled services will appreciate his craftsmanship & enjoy his company. I would highly recommend Bill for any flooring job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
