The experience with my tutors have been amazing. They always made sure I thoroughly understood the material before moving on. They also showed genuine compassion for how the students were doing, both during the tutoring and after testing.

Very professional and my 2 girls just love their instructor Anna. She works very well with kids and was flexible with introducing my 4 year old to the piano. My 6 yr old can't wait to show anyone who comes to our house that she can actually play a song. Anna really makes it fun for them The price is competitive and they will come to your house. Give them a call.. you wont regret it.

Well, Mr Burgos has been tutoring math to my 6th grader son and I am just amazed and extremely happy with Mr Burgos' way of doing what he does, me as well as my son. He has been struggling since last year in this subject and with just 2 weeks of tutoring hes been catching up really quick and I can tell he has a lot more confident. Mr Burgo s is "always" on time, very polite, patience and hes really making sure my son gets it. Thank you very much for the referral and we are very happy we found him and I will strongly refer him to anyone who needs help in math...... JCG

Melinda was the ideal tutor for my youngest sister. She helped her improve her math and reading skills in time for the 3rd grade FSA. She prepared Abigail with effective practice and provided tools that my sister could use out of tutoring. Melinda is punctual and professional. She is also great with children, as my sister was highly responsive to her and very comfortable. I plan to use her services again.

Amikka tutoring was one of the best options I could have chosen for my SAT tutoring. My tutor prepared me in a way that most tutoring places will not offer. He really sits down with each of his students to set a plan to achieve each and everyone of their goals that goes way beyond with what one pays for in only two hours. He always checks in with his students to make sure that they are on task and will always respond to any questions or doubts outside of the tutoring session. This tutoring program is truly genuine and effective on any student.

Sadid first came to my house for a no fee chat with myself and my son to discuss what I had in mind for my son. I explained to Sadid what my expectations were for the short and long term and he then proceeded with tutoring my son for the first session. My son was very happy with Sadid and we agreed on tutoring twice a week. So far I am very happy with the results and Sadid did meet my expectations. I would definitely recommend Sadid. He is a great Math and Physics teacher! He is compassionate, thorough, and overall a fantastic tutor! He really made sure I understood the concepts so that I would be able to grasp an understanding of my independent work. Carolina was very sweet with my son for his 1st tutoring session. He was shy at first but I saw how she eased him into doing the work she had planned for him. She gave me good feedback on what my son will need in order to get him ready for the upcoming school year. I am glad we made the decision to go with her and look forward to having her help my child succeed over the summer.

Mr. Ferguson helps my son with Math. We are not only extremely impressed with his service but Mr. Ferguson goes over and beyond any normal tutor. He is on time, prepared, and his quality of work is outstanding. He has improved my sons Math skills to such a high level that my son went from a 70 to a 96.

Approximately once a week, a 30 minute session was scheduled. Since I am in AP Seminar, each session involved the discussion on how to further improve my paper, fix my line of reasoning, and provide proper explanations and evidence. At the beginning of the writing process, the paper was pretty rough, but with the help of Dr. Bates, my paper was in great condition. Every time we had peer review in class, my paper was barely ever commented on because Dr. Bates had prepared me to cover all the points necessary to possibly receive a high in each category of the rubric. Everything about the process of the tutoring sessions went very well and the advice and aid provided was extremely helpful. If there was one thing that did not go smoothly was the planning according to my schedule as there were always things coming up, but Dr. Bates did an amazing job of accommodating for these instances and ensuring that proper guidance was offered.

Michelle is a phenomenal teacher and tutor. She had the unique ability to engage my son in challenging work while making it interesting and fun. She was able to hold his attention for long periods of time when no one else was successful at doing so. She taught him to read in a short period of time and really truly knew what he needed to be successful. I highly recommend Michelle!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
  • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
