I've been going to Karen for a few months and find her technique to be top notch! She worked well to discover where my skillset is and then a professional customized set of lessons. She also makes the time enjoyable, but keeps us on track and professional. HIGHLY recommend!

Matt is extremely knowledgeable about various styles of guitar playing and explains it in a way which is easily learnable. He is also very good at determining the level of skill which you are at, and then teaching you specific lessons which bring you closer to your goals. His guitar/music theory explanations have expanded my knowledge of the guitar and this has made me a much more confident guitar player. I would definitely recommend taking lessons with him if you have any goals to learn or improve your guitar playing or theory or both!

Kevin is a wonderful and knowledgeable teacher who is able to teach anyone from beginner to advanced. I needed Kevin's assistance to prepare for a college audition and I stayed on as his student because he is one of the few teachers out there that truly cares about helping me grow to be a better musician. I would highly recommend anyone to take lessons with Kevin!

A few lessons in, and I can tell I'm going to learn so much. She caters toward my learning pace and understands where I struggle the most. I love how she has different methods to help her students, and because of this, I know I am getting personalized lessons that keep me wanting to learn. As an adult who has had no formal lessons growing up, I feel like I will thrive and learn with her as my teacher.

I'm an adult student with no prior experience playing music whatsoever. Naturally I was a little hesitant about taking up piano lessons at first, but Priscilla has been an excellent teacher. Kind, patient, professional and knowledgeable; she explains things in terms I can easily understand, and I leave each class feeling a real sense of progress. If you're looking for a great instructor, your search ends here.

It was great! Our meet and greet went amazing. I explained to her my past experience and what little future goals I had planned. Reema explained her past experiences and what she had in mind for a student like me; all the different avenues I can take to achieve my goals; and how she would help me strengthen my vocal chords. She set her expectations for me as a student and laid it all out on the table how they can be met. She has a great deal of professionalism and knowledge, that is what I really appreciate about her lessons.

Kristen is THE BEST. She has made me feel confident and comfortable every step of the way. She has a unique way of explaining concepts and ideas that makes learning very easy. She makes each practice practical. You can tell she really knows her craft and also that she cares, and wants you to learn and understand. I've had lessons from others in the past, and never learned anything. But with only three lessons so far, I've learned more with Kristen than 3 years in music lessons. I think that she has a true calling and passion in teaching. She listens and personalized her lessons to your specific goals. I am truly finding my own unique voice with each lesson. I'm excited each time we meet and I get better each time! I highly recommend anyone, of any age to work with Kristen.

My daughter has been taking private vocal lessons from Ken since she was 8 years old and she is now 14. We have obviously been pleased with his ability to teach and protect the voice. Some coaches are simply in it for the money, but Ken is not. He honestly cares about his students and he is extremely motivated by his passion of teaching to help each student reach their full potential while protecting their most valuable asset, their vocal chords.

Brian was a fantastic piano and guitar instructor for my daughter. He truly makes learning fun for a teenager. He was always on time, patient during lessons, and his amazing talent was inspirational. Plus he has a great personality and gets along well with parents. His fees are very fair, too. (My daughter stopped lessons because she went off to college.).....Additionally, Brian is a wonderful entertainer for parties. He recently played at my mother's 85th birthday bash. EVERYONE loved his beautiful classical guitar music.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
