Our company had the pleasure of using Hildago for our business retreat. Honestly it was a very heartfelt experience to have someone so committed to service and being so dependable. Dinner was great with the highlight being the seafood paella, Lobster and steak night which everyone loved!!!! The breakfasts were delicious and we loved having them here. We used them for along period so we were able to bond while cooking! Would definitely recommend Hildago! High standards and definitely delivers❤️

We hired Spice House Catering for a dinner for 12 golfers celebrating the end of a 5 day golf trip. I exchanged a few emails with Dameon leading up to the trip where we selected the menu and I informed him of the dining restrictions of a couple of the guys. Dameon and his team were very prompt, prepared a spectacular meal and even ran out and picked a few items (ice, beer, etc.) that we had run out of before the meal. We couldn't have been happier with the entire evening and would definitely use him again!

I can't say enough about Chef Paola ! She is truly amazing!!! She made the best and most beautiful food for my annual holiday party this year. I have had other caterers in the past, but she is the only one that my guests commented on how great the food was! She really is wonderful!

I was requesting quotes for my sons 5th grade banquet IN VERY SHORT NOTICE. Out of 50, I CHOSE BLESS MY SOUL FOOD CATERING & MORE!!!!! I needed to cater to 250+ guests. The vendors I had lined up for this event would not have been able to beat the cost, the timing, accommodating such a crowd on such short notice...NOR do it effortlessly with quality, FLAVOR and efficiency the ways I was catered to by THIS company. Immediately they were on my phone offering suggestions, and arranging to meet to HELP plan the menu as well offer any additional hand in any and every way for this event. Their time was very precious and they offered so much they didn't have to (that was so personal and comforting). On the day of the banquet, they were very much prepared, on time, organized, well dressed, extremely professional and SKILLED to the MAX! The dishes were AMAZING! Hot, fresh, flavorful, well made and well presented!!! Everything was cooked to perfection and so much more than I ever expected!! QUALITY! QUALITY! QUALITY! And can I say QUALITY! This catering company BEATS ALL I have ever seen, tasted, experienced and known!! From BBQ to fine dining THEY LITERALLY DO IT ALL AND DO IT VERY VERY WELL!!!!! THEY ARE AWESOME AND ACCOMMODATE ANY AND EVERY EVENT TYPE AND VENUE!!! I've been in the event world in Orlando for 15 years and my Father for 40! WE WERE BOTH VERY IMPRESSED AND BLESSED TO HAVE FOUND THEM!!! By far THE MOST efficient, personal, accommodating, cost effective, punctual, reasonable and DELICIOUS ((SOOOO DELICIOUS)) I enjoyed the company of these fine ladies and appreciated the extra hand. The LOVE for what this company does is defined in their great service, THE FLAVOR, THE QUALITY, the presentation and above all BEING ONE OF A KIND!!! NOT MANY CATERING COMPANIES CAN SAY THAT -- BUT THIS ONE CAN AND OWNS IT!!!! Any type of food dishes, ANY TYPE OF GATHERING.... ANY NUMBER OF GUESTS, from a small crowd (even a dinner for 2) to 300 people/PLUS...THIS COMPANY DEFIES ALL I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! I AM SO GRATEFUL AND HONORED TO HAVE THEM AS A PERMANENT "GO-TO" VENDOR!!!! I RECOMMEND THEM FOR ANY AND ALL OCCASIONS!!! WHEN I SAY THEY COOK IT ALL--THEY DO IT ALL---THEY MAKE IT ALL SO PERSONAL--- THE FOOD IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!! 100% X 100% SATISFIED!!!! My experience with Gourmet Crepes Cafe and Catering was delicious! I was having a party with some of my friends and Jean came to help me out making the best crepes I haven't had in a long time... Coming from Bretagne in France (where crepes are originally from), I really fell like home while tasting them. Perfumed perfectly with orange blossom, my guests were delighted and I was really happy I asked Jean to come. His smile and professionalism enchanted me and he really helped to the success of my party.

I hired Abundance Custom Catering and BBQ in August of 2017 for my late husband's Celebration of Life event at a local biker bar. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Irma the event had to be postponed for late October. It was no problem. Alan Proteau accommodated with complete professionalism. On the event day, Alan and his staff set up smoked and cooked the food, again, with complete professionalism. The pulled pork and smoked chicken along with the sides of mac and cheese, baked beans, green beans, California mixed veggies, coleslaw, salad and rolls was served beautifully, buffet style. Everyone raved about the food and many people said it was the best they had ever had. I would have to agree!!! Abundance Custom Catering and BBQ is the best!!!

Our guests raved about how amazing everything was. The Chef personally walked around to each table to make sure the food was great for our guests. Savyor Events are the most professional caterers. On time, helpful with creating a menu in our budget, and then delivering food that is fresh, hot, and delicious. For appetizers, I would highly recommend the bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp and the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. Main course: My choice = sautéed mushrooms/steak and chicken/pineapple shish-ka-bobs was my favorite. The mushrooms were exquisite! Savyor's serving staff was a pleasure to work with; friendly, prompt, clean, and courteous. Definitely using Savyor Events for the holiday party!

Dear Pebbles Enterprise Inc. It has been seven months since my daughter's birthday party and I just wanted to tell you that the catering of the meal was superb! The food was delicious, the table decorations and arrangements were beautiful, and the staff was a delight to work with. Not only was everything that was promised delivered, there were extras thrown in as well that made the event even more special. I feel for everything you did for us, making sure that a thousand and one details were perfectly executed, made the value of the service you provided more than worth the expense it cost me. Your knowledge of event planning and your professional, friendly approach made the major part of the birthday celebration delightful. The best part of all, was when my daughter told me that the event was even better than she had hoped it would be! Thank you for everything,

I hired DIYM to cater my husbands retirement party. The entire experience was great from selecting the menu to delivery and setup to eating the delicious food. Mathew is professional, punctual ( actually early!), and an amazing chef. Everyone at the event raved about the BBQ and the homemade sauce. Everything needed was included, every detail considered. I highly recommend Mathew and DIYM catering for your next event.

Ron and Frank, thank you for working with us to provide a lovely retirement buffet lunch for our 35 guests! Thank you so much for being punctual, dependable, and providing exactly what you said you'd provide, both in food and service. Your price was very reasonable for the menu and quality of each dish. The food was very flavorful and so colorful! It was a delicious balance of hot and cold, with very complimentary tastes and textures. There was plenty of food for everyone who wanted seconds and then some! Everyone said it was delicious, especially our guest of honor and his wife. They said, “Wow, the food was fantastic!” Chef Frank, we are grateful that arrived ahead of time and completed the setup, and that you were so cordial both to us and our guest. You were constantly attentive to the buffet and drinks, which made our guests feel at ease in beginning their meal. Thank you for your professionalism. Thank you for being a lovely part of our celebration!

The food was outstanding! All of the guests at our wedding were very pleased and we heard no complaints. The staff was very professional. We were a little disappointed at how quickly they packed up and left. We were also a little disappointed that they didn't leave any food for us to have a plate after everyone was gone as we, the bride and groom, were to busy with our guests to really get a chance to eat. I would definitely recommend Char-Don Catering to anyone and would definitely use them again for any other event!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

  • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
  • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
  • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
  • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
  • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
  • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.

How much should catering cost for a wedding?

The cost of wedding catering will reflect the level of service, the menu you choose, the luxury you desire and the number of guests you invite. Where you live also plays a major role in your wedding catering costs. The regional cost to do business and local cost of food will affect your catering bill. There is no set price for wedding catering, because each wedding and each menu is different. This is why many caterers provide a per-person price. This allows you to break down what it costs to feed each person based on the menu you want. Working with your caterer, you can adjust menu items, service level and more to accommodate your budget and guest count. Keep in mind that wedding catering costs are not just for the food. The bill reflects all the components that go into commercial food catering: a commercial kitchen, ingredients, staff, insurance, marketing and more. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Three-course plated meal, moderately upscale, for 125 in Los Angeles: $14,000. Because of staffing costs, a true plated meal costs about twice as much as a staff-assisted buffet.
  • Buffet meal, standard menu, for 100 in Los Angeles: $5,000.
  • Per-person cost for hors d'oeuvres, dinner and nonalcoholic beverages: $24–$37, depending on menu selection, in Southern California.
  • Drop off prepared food for 50: $1,000 in North Carolina. Price does not include any service, setup or breakdown.

How do you serve food at a wedding?

Food service at your wedding will affect your catering costs and influence the atmosphere of the reception. Buffet style is more informal; plated meals are a bit fancier; family style encourages sharing. Read about the different food service styles to select your preferred wedding catering choice.

  • Buffet: Caterers can drop off prepared foods for a DIY and budget-friendly buffet option where you set everything up and food is entirely self-service. For a fuller-service buffet, the caterers set up food, oversee the buffet throughout the event, and clean up afterwards. For food only, prices per person might average $16-$18, while a service buffet may start around $20-$22 per person. Adding food stations can increase per-person costs by at least $3-$5.
  • Family style: Servers bring large platters of food to guest tables in courses. It’s less formal (and less expensive) than a plated meal, but more formal and higher-cost than a buffet. You’ll need large tables to accommodate the platters, so plan accordingly when renting furniture for the event.
  • Plated: A plated event is a formal dining experience; waitstaff serve your seated guests for each course, fill their drinks, and attend to them throughout the dinner. A plated dinner is typically the most expensive option for both food and service.
  • Food trucks: Similar to buffets, with food trucks your guests get their own food and bring it to their table. A food truck gives a relaxed and playful vibe to your reception.
  • Cocktail reception: If you don’t want a formal seated dinner, you can opt for a wide assortment of passed appetizers at an extended cocktail hour reception.
