I had a bit of miscommunication in the beginning of the roofing process with one of the roofers, however, Bryan stepped in and handled the situation wonderfully! I am very pleased with Bryan's professionalism and promptness. My roof is beautiful and it came just in time for the heavy rain! The construction crew left my property in good condition. I would recommend Power Roofing & Construction LLC to anyone needed a roof or repairs. Prices are reasonable! Ask for Bryan!

The quote was reasonable and I was looking forward to using American Quality Roof Repair. The initial meeting with the owner (Bill) went ok when the initial quote was given. After that it was all downhill! What was supposed to be a "one day" job ended up taking nearly two weeks. They fired their main worker on my home who was unqualified and very unprofessional. He and his crew did a HORRIBLE job on the first attempt! (Bad cutting on both wood and metal. Huge gaps between wood. No caulking in places that needed it.) Absolutely no attention to detail. After talking to the owner Bill, he was stating that the job was good and he approved it. However, the job was unfinished and it was obvious. One of their employees (who they ended up firing) called me cursing me out demanding payment from me and was claiming he wasn't paid by the owner of company! When talking to Bill, he was extremely rude and unprofessional and acted completely out of the loop. They had to come back out and fix their mistakes. A second worker was also fired on the job causing extra delays and an extra pickup truck to be left on the front lawn of the home for several days after the job was complete. These are just a few of the many things that went wrong. I am an easy going guy and rarely complain about stuff like this, but it was hands down the worst company I have ever worked with. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. I hope this review saves you going through a similar experience that I did.

The absolute best, period. We are amazed at the quality of the work and could not be happier with our new screen. I called several companies to come out and give us a bid to replace our two-story screen (that was old and in need of repair, plus had some tears from the last hurricane). Bryan at ATR was the only company that responded immediately, and came out to measure within a few days. Not only did he give us a quote, but he had screen samples that we could select from, including a privacy screen for the bottom row. Nobody else even gave us that option. Now on to on-the-job performance. First, I was impressed with the communication from Rosie. She set up the schedule of when they would arrive, then sent text and email reminders the day before and also sent alerts when they were on they way (with estimated arrival times that turned out accurate each time). There is nothing she could have done better in terms of communication. It was as good as I've experienced from any vendor I've ever used. Once they showed up and started on the job, the crew was professional and went above and beyond our expectations. They power-washed the entire brick flooring, cleaned out any roots near the cage, trimmed back the trees and bushes and even cleaned out the gutters (which were a mess!). That type of attention to detail was awesome to see. They put together all of the screens over a period of a few days, working till dark each day to stay on schedule. When done, they cleaned up, put the furniture back and gave us a perfect screened in yard. I just can't say enough about the attention to detail, perfect communication through every step of the process and overall professionalism of their company. They are true professionals in every sense of the word and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have screen repair or installation done.

We tried our hand at putting down laminate flooring and soon realized we needed help. I had called a few places but never got my calls returned. I found thumbtack and as soon as I posted my need, Dave responded right away. He even came out about an hour later to give me a quote and began work the next day. Dave and his brother Paul were super nice, very knowledgable and skilled for the task. They got the job done quick and it looked great! The price was fair and included extras. I love my new floor! While Dave was here, he had some great ideas for future projects in my home. When I'm ready for those projects, I will definitely call Dave again.

We had an incredible experience with Charlie and his team. They were prompt, thorough, clean, and professional. Can't say enough good things about Southeast Waterproofing and Roofing. I literally couldn't get any roofer to return my phone calls and provide an estimate...and then I was introduced to Charlie by a friend who had a positive experience. They far exceeded our expectations.

Elmer from Pro Roofing showed up on time for our appointment, made a recommendation as to the best type of roof that would be most suited for my property and then e-mailed me a very comprehensive and competitive price quote. I am in the process of working with Pro Roofing to obtain the roofing permit and notice of commencement documents at this time.

Anderson Construction came out to my home to provide an on-site estimate for a minor repair to my metal roof the day within 24 hours of my request. He confirmed the source of a leak (base of an old dormer), and used some caulk I had on hand to do the repair. Then would not let me pay him for his time. While he was on the roof, he also did an inspection and identified a problem area I would not have spotted from the ground (took phone pics for me), and made some recommendations for general maintenance to extend the life of my now 20 year old beach-side roof. Knowledgeable, professional, responsive = highly recommended.

Justin and his team arrived on time and did an outstanding job installing fencing in my back yard after Hurricane Matthew came through and took down my existing fence. They are professional, polite and did an excellent job installing the fence. I recommend them highly and would hire them again.

Paul, owner of Diversified Contracting, is installing a vinyl fence in my yard. I am extremely pleased on how this project is going. When I first contacted him, he was at my house the very next day to look things over. That evening he texted me with the details of the fencing material needed. After the delivery of the materials, Paul and his crew began the process of the installation. Paul has always been right on time each and every time. He and his crew are very professional and courteous and Paul takes the time to answer any and all questions I might have in length. I will be hiring Paul for any future projects I have. He is from the 'old school'... "If you going to do something, do it right the first time". If anyone is ever looking for a good, honest, hard-working person, Paul of Diversified Contracting, Inc. is the one that you should hire. He actually gets right in there and works along side of his crew. Thanks Paul. I am very happy with the job you and your crew are doing. I will be posting photos when the project is completed. I recently had my home up for sale and the inspection noted we needed a new roof. Not wanting to loose the sale we needed to replace the roof with a matching 30 year dimensional shingle. I called Roof Army and explained our situation. The estimator was there the very next day at the agreed upon time. Their estimate was 12% lower then the Realtors' roofer's estimate. We signed the contract, wrote a check for the materials only and agreed on the start date, weather permitting. The following week the materials was delivered onto the roof on Tuesday along with a dumpster parked in my driveway. The next day the crew along with a supervisor was there at 7:30 AM. They worked from sun up to practically sun down. In that time frame they had removed and dried-in 75% of the existing roof. All the while picking up all construction debts and putting it in the dumpster. The next day they started at the same time. Finishing the removal and dry-in by noon ready for the building inspector's dry-in inspection that afternoon. Which passed with no comments. On Friday they started again and shingled the entire roof. The building inspector showed up on Monday morning, made a couple of comments. That afternoon the Building Inspector's comments were addressed by the roofer and the Inspector returned the following day and approved the installation without further comment. The area around the house was kept clear of debris, nails, etc... throughout the entire process. I was worried our pool would be filled with nails but didn't find one! Note to anyone getting this done; This is an expensive, stressful, destructive, dirty process. I literally was at war with my roof and Roof Army helped relieve us of all our concerns by having a competitive price, delivering the materials when they said to expect them, show up when they said they were going to show up, continuously keeping the jobsite clear of construct debris and getting done when they said they would be done. Oh and one last thing, the roof looks great! The new owner is very pleased as well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
