Johnny Bass's crew did an awesome job installing new laminate flooring in my rental property. I live in another state from the property but he was very professional to work with. His crew picked up the flooring & supplies I ordered at a nearby home Depot & talk to me directly about what planned to do. They did great work. I would highly recommend Johnny Bas & Laminate Professional!

“I had many people provide me with estimates, but I went with Diversified because they were the most professional and punctual candidates. I was so happy with the installation of my new subfloor and vinyl flooring. What should have taken 4 days, was done in 2! Also, I had a lot of things to move out of the rooms that were done, and they took care of clearing the room which was greatly appreciated. The price of the work was very reasonable. I would highly recommend using Diversified Floor Care. If I need more work done in the future, they will be my first call! Thanks a bunch!!

Russell did a great job with the removal of old carpet & vinyl flooring throughout our entire condo, and the subsequent installation of new laminate flooring throughout our entire condo. It took 2 days total, and he let me know exactly what would be done on day 1 vs. day 2 ahead of time, so I was able to move all of the breakables and smaller items around appropriately the night before each day of installation. Of course, they handled moving all of the larger items/furniture. The new floors look great! Also worth noting - When they finished up on day 2, I pointed out that after moving my bed around, the bottom of the bed frame seemed to be really loose/creaky. Although it was no direct fault of theirs, Russell and his 2 workers took the time to drill/repair/secure my bed frame, leaving it in much better shape than it was before they came here.

For the past five years Mark has completed several of my townhouse renovations from installing an a beautiful all tile shower, wood laminate in hallway and stairs, bamboo flooring in master bedroom and closets, and most recently wood looking tile living room and hallway. For every project, he has given an estimate which includes his labor and cleanup. In addition, Mark has also met me at Home Depot and/or Floor and Decor to give recommendations and assistance with transportation of heavy materials. Most importantly, Mark is very reliable and extremely efficient! For example, from one day to the next my entire 220 square feet living room floor and hallway was broken down and prepped for the next day installation! So, basically his experience and tidy, beautiful and cost-effective fair pricing keeps me his steady customer. I highly recommend Mark for any of your flooring needs - whether it be laminate, bamboo, tile - I've had them all done and am extremely satisfied by this quality service. I am confident that any future customer will be equally as satisfied!

The work performed in our property was as follows: We had vinyl laminate wood style vinyl plank flooring and baseboards installed in the following areas. Living room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and hallways. Douglas the owner and his crew came in and did an excellent job of installing the flooring and we will definitely be using his services again. From removing and prepping the flooring which needed leveling to ensure a quality finish to moving furniture and appliances plus cleanup after was all performed fast and efficient. The quality of work and service they performed was excellent and we highly recommend them to anyone who desires a high quality job done right the first time.

Darian Newberry replaced carpet with laminate wood in a couple of bedrooms, replaced upgraded carpet in another bedroom, and installed vinyl plank with a wood finish in my garage. He did an outstanding job and was very responsive to my needs. I would highly recommend his work and company to others. Cost wise, they were competitive with other local firms.

Pete and Richard are great to work with and do good work. Unlike many handyman services I have used in the past, these guys earn the business. I had a fence repair that ended up being complex, but Richard worked it out. I had a tile repair that two other handymen said they could not do. And the best of all, I had a single vinyl slat that had to be reattached and Richard fixed it - of the two others I called, one never showed up and the other almost fell of the roof. The other guy said he would call back and never did. I will hire Richard and Pete in the future when needed.

Alex is the man! He came out to check out the flooring project I had and gave a strong bid which I accepted. He was very accommodating in coming out on a day that worked for my schedule. He is a hard worker and his work is amazing! On top of that he's an all around nice guy, I can't recommend him enough. I'll definitely use him again. For my project Alex laid vinyl plank flooring in 3 rooms along with all the transition pieces and an end cap. He even helped me move all my furniture back. Do not hesitate to hire him! 5 stars all around!!

Brian and his team were able to remodel my home by replacing old carpet and tile with handscrapped laminate flooring. My home is now my sanctuary. Brian and his team were very professional and efficient in replacing my floors and didn't even charge me for removing the carpet! My floors look like engineered wood and they were half the price! Brian's price was very affordable and reasonable. I am looking forward to working with Renovate Tampa Bay again to remodel my kitchen!

He ripped out old carpet and laid down vinyl plank, click-lock flooring and put in the corner bead and transition pieces. He had to move the furniture around in order to do the job because it's currently occupied - 4 rooms and a bathroom, about 700 square feet. He worked very fast and efficiently and did a great job at a fantastic price. Very professional. We definitely highly recommend him and we would use him again!

Rodney laid laminate flooring throughout my entire home. I had a real serious roof leak that severely damaged the wall and floor in one of my bedrooms. After I had my roof replaced Rodney tore out the wall and floor and repaired them properly. I also had a rotten floor in my master bathroom. I knew nothing about this damage. Rodney found it while laying the laminate. He was able to remove the toilet and make the proper repairs to the floor. He laid all the flooring and baseboards. He did a very good job. I also had one other leak under my kitchen sink. He repaired the leak and repaired the cabinet. His repair made it possible for me to have more room under my sink. I am very pleased with his workmanship.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
