We have been using Kuma Pest Control, and we have had NO bugs since day one. Thank goodness, the palmetto bugs, silverfish and cockroaches had pushed me to my limit. Well worth the money and investment. Kuma is very flexible, professional, and friendly.

We asked for a quote for cockroach extermination. James arrived promptly and recognized that what we needed exterminated were not cockroaches but water bugs. Not only did he exterminate those in our garage, he sprayed inside and outside of our entire property. We have noticed a considerable decrease in bugs in general around our property, but most notable was the decrease in mosquitoes. James was professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. He did a fantastic job on this property. We will be hiring him again to exterminate at our other property.

Matt was extremely nice and knowledgeable throughout the whole process. I opted for the 6 month treatment just in case one application didn't wipe it out. On the day of my appointment, Matt called and said he was going to be 45 minutes late. He actually wound up being almost 2 hours late and did not give me a second call. Besides that, the appointment went very well and I enjoyed chatting with Matt throughout the process. He went into the attic and under the house to make sure he got the bugs at the source. In the 3 days since my appointment, my husband and I have been killing "drunk" roaches ever since, and have seen dead ones outside on our porches. I hope it has eliminated the problem, and I find comfort in the fact that for the next six months I can call for additional applications at no charge.

My wife, daughter, and I moved into a new home 2 months ago and we absolutely love it. One small annoyance though. Every day, like clockwork, we would come across several American cockroaches. Usually 1 or 2 at night, another in the morning, sometimes dead, most of the time alive. Hardly an infestation, but still very annoying for me to constantly have to stop what I’m doing to eradicate them (the girls wouldn’t touch them). They weren’t isolated to one location, they popped up in the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. So I did what I’ve done at previous homes. I bought some Home Defense and sprayed the entire interior and exterior perimeters of the house (not a big place, one story, about 1600 square feet). Surprisingly, this did next to nothing to solve the problem. So a week later, I sprayed the entire house again. The roaches did not care and we were still seeing them every day. The First Lady finally had had enough so after reading some positive reviews, I gave Mike a call. Mike was extremely professional and personable. He arrived for our Saturday scheduled time early, asked us a few questions about the situation, described what he was going to do, and then got to work. He sprayed and put down some granules outside and then came inside to spray a bit more. He explained that the chemicals in the spray were completely harmless to us and our cat and were specifically engineered to biologically alter only pests and insects. He then finished up by placing some glue board traps throughout the place. Since Mike came to our house 3 weeks ago, we have not seen a single insect in or around the house. Not one. Even the ants near the patio out back have packed up and left. And nothing caught in the glue boards either. Mission Accomplished. I highly recommend Mike from PCS Pest Control Solutions.

I hired Benchmark Pest Solutions for an ongoing cockroach issue. Benchmark was the third company I hired to get my problem under control. Scott was on time for the appointment, professional and seemed concerned with my problem. He set expectations, executed his plan and kept me me involved in the whole process. I highly recommend Benchmark Pest Solutions knowing my home is finally pest free.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

    • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
      • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
    • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost for a pest control service?

Whether you need to get rid of bugs or rodents, pest removal professionals can be lifesaving when you have an infestation. Pest control prices will vary based on what type of pest is being removed. The national pest control price range is $80-$130, although prices can be much higher for tasks like wildlife removal (raccoons, bobcats, etc.), which might start at $250 and exceed $500, depending on the animal and the trapping measures required.

The cost of eliminating a termite colony ranges on average from $240 to $400, but these costs can increase greatly if the whole house is infested. The average cost to kill cockroaches is between $80 and $130, while bedbug extermination ranges from $320 to $400 on average. The main factors that will affect your pest control price are the type of pest, the extent of the infestation, the accessibility of the infested areas, and the type of treatment required.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

    • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
      • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
    • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
      • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
    • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
      • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.
