I already have gutter covers on my gutters and other companies still wanted full price to blow the roof off. Dunbar group came out the same day and blew off my roof and did a quick visual inspection for much more reasonable price. I was very happy with the services i recieved and will definitly call them again.

We needed leaky roof repair that has some skylights on it. Alex at Statewide Roofing was very professional and made a timely response, inspection, and reasonable quote. The work was done exactly when he said it would be and looks very professional. In all aspects of this experience, we give Statewide Roofing an A+ rating...BUT, the true test of a good roof repair is when it rains...and, we have not had any rain to speak of since the repair was done. We hope it is as it looks because this appears to be a top notch company...Thanks Thumbtack! Diane M.

Extremely professional and knowledgeable. He gave me more than one option to repair my roof and siding, based on my budget. I'll be honest, I am on a budget so I chose the cheaper option. However, I have to admit the finished project looked as though I chose the most expensive option. After seeing his completed work I have decided to hire him for other home repairs. Overall, I have to give him the highest rating and suggest others take advantage of his honest quality service.

As an engineer we have a saying that goes "good, fast, cheap; pick two). We got pushed back a little further than originally anticipating but as I worked in construction and weather it was understandable. They were BY FAR the lowest price on architectural shingles and lower with this price than all but one or two who quoted 3-tab shingles. I didn't see any nails on the ground after the job and Ray told us we could load any trash besides paint and something else before the trash company picked up the container a couple days later. They pay per pound as that's the only way I've ever found plus haul and deliver and maybe number of days. Ray was easy to work with and I know we had some plywood sheets replaced. Cover your stuff in the attic as there was a mess up there which I should of anticipated as he said he replaced several sheets. There were nail penetrations in the attic roof (quite a few) which I could bend sideways with a hammer. I'm not stating that last part to complain but more so as a courtesy to the business for future clients. We feel we got much more than we paid for which is VERY rare when dealing with contractors. If you want super pretty attic ceailing it will cost you and the competitors who bid a lot more didn't guarantee it to us except one who did use a better pad but was also a grand and a half less than TWICE what The Art of Home Improvement charged. I would recommend to my family members and friends in a second (unless they want a metal roof which I don't know if they do or not.)

We recently worked with Scott Burns to get a metal roof on a house we are currently building. Scott was extremely professional during the entire process and the price was more than reasonable. Scott introduced us to Matt and his crew to do the job. Matt's crew was simply amazing. They worked in unbelievably harsh weather conditions while installing METAL. Every day the temperature was over 90 degrees. Yet they promptly worked hard each day to give us exactly the roof we wanted. They were polite, prompt, professional, extremely hard working and did a beautiful, beautiful job. The metal roof Matt installed completely transformed our house. Now it's the charming farmhouse I've been dreaming of for years. I can't recommend Matt and his crew highly enough. If you are considering a metal roof for your home, look no further than Scott, Matt and his crew. You will not be disappointed.

As a first time homeowner who has never had a roof replacement I was very selective in my search for a contractor - and I couldn't be happier with my selection. Mike at Ideal Roofing was by far the most professional and knowledgeable contractor I met with and he presented a great value product in comparison to my other bids. The work was competed on time, as scheduled and warrantied by Ideal Roofing. I will be recommending this company to family and friends.

In 2013 I purchased a 1920 bungalow in need of rehab and renovation. The work required coordinating specialists in mold remediation, groundwater management, roofing & gutter repairs, attic cleanout and installation of floor & drop down ladder access, removal of insulation & re-insulating, diagnosis and repair of faulty plumbing, chimney repair, cleanout of crawlspace & installing new vapor barrier, & extensive repair & refinishing antique hard wood floors, refitting antique doors to existing door jambs, repair of antique windows, external re-painting, hvac system cleanout & repair, and complete gutting, redesign & refinishing a bathroom with curbless shower. There were many decision points in this extensive project. The entire course, my contractor was easy to communicate with and honest about cost & budgeting. Ric Rodriguez knows the best way to get a job done and when I did not follow his advice I always regretted it later! All the Portico South staff and subcontractors we worked with were terrific - both pleasant and capable with very high quality work. I recommend Portico South without reservation and look forward having them return when I am ready to do further home renovations in the future.

A few years ago I had Mr Handyman(James Dooley) remodel my bathroom as well as my kitchen. I loved it. Not only does James do all my household repairs and renovations, he also repairs my vehicles and is an excellent mechanic. And he still to this day does all my yard work. The last job, just 3 weeks ago he put a new roof on my house. I wanted shingles but he showed me all the good and bad points about shingles as well as metal . I decided to go with his recommendation and I am so glad I did . I love my Roof ! He even stayed under budget. I would recommend James for any project someone needs done. He's the best!!!

After going through the process of reading reviews and getting quotes from roofers and trying to decide who to trust because I wasn't sure if I'd get good quality materials if I got a low price, and would I be paying too much if I went with the higher price. When I met Brian from Jenkins Construction he explained everything in detail about the types of materials I would be getting for the price, and he was able to help me work out the financing with no problem and recommended a very reliable tree service to remove trees away from the roof. All in all the roofing experience and the tree removal was made possible by Brian and his company and his recommendations. Some say awesome, I say spectacular!!!

Marco did a fantastic job for a great price. He was the first one to contact me regarding this project, came out the same day to give me a quote, and came back the next day to do the work. He repaired two roof leaks, one of which required cutting away the plywood and replacing it. He took photos of each step along the way and provided them to me for my review. He actually did a few extra things that were not even part of the quote like adding silicone to several roof vents and exposed nail heads. He did a great cleanup job and was very polite and respectful. If you’re looking for great work at a great price this is your guy.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
