Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should a pool inspection cost?

pool inspection will cost around $175, on average, with a low range of $85 and a high end of $499. This price can include a range of different systems checks. First, the pool inspector will perform a visual assessment for signs of debris, cracks, sharp edges and other damage that could lead to injury or deterioration of your pool. They will also check all chemicals, pumps, filters, circulation systems, heaters and other elements that make up the infrastructure of your pool.

To find out exactly how much it will cost to get your pool inspected by a professional, contact pool inspectors near you and request free cost estimates.

How much does it cost per year to maintain a pool?

It will cost around $1,032 per year for a weekly pool cleaning service. This price will increase for one-time services, ranging between $150 and $300. This is why it’s generally a good idea to find a pool cleaning company that can do lower-priced weekly maintenance. Ultimately, the cost you pay will vary by your pool’s size, the chemicals needed and the type of service you request.

How do I schedule a pool inspection?

To schedule a pool inspection, begin by searching for local pool inspectors on Thumbtack. When you find a pool inspector you’re interested in hiring, check their availability and choose a date and time. You can also ask the pool inspector to suggest other dates. Fill out the short survey about your pool inspection, and the inspector will get back to you to confirm the day and time of your inspection.

What are the advantages of hiring a professional pool inspector?

Hiring a professional swimming pool inspector comes with a number of different benefits. It helps homebuyers and owners understand what condition the pool is in, which will help with purchasing decisions, negotiations or simply budgeting for repairs. A pool inspector can also give an accurate assessment of the pool’s mechanical and electrical processes. Perhaps most important is the ability to detect problems in their infancy, so they don’t become expensive repairs down the road.

How long does it take to clean a pool?

The time it takes to clean a swimming pool depends heavily on the pool’s condition and size. Pools that receive regular weekly cleaning should take less time to clean, even if the cleaning includes skimming, scrubbing, applying chemicals and vacuuming. However, if you’re just opening your pool for the season, the process may take longer.

When searching for pool cleaners near you and gathering cost estimates, ask them how long they expect each cleaning will take.

What chemicals do you need to clean a pool?

The main categories of pool chemicals include sanitizers, oxidizers, water balancers, and specialty chemicals. Sanitizers (like chlorine and bromine) disinfect pool water. Oxidizers are a second type of sanitizing chemical meant to kill bacteria and algae. Water balancers keep the pH (acidity) level of the water in the correct place, as well as maintain the proper “hardness” — that is, levels of calcium and other elements. Other specialty chemicals include clarifiers, flocculant, algaecides and more.

If you don’t know how to properly use pool cleaning chemicals, consider hiring a professional pool cleaner to help you maintain your pool.

How often should you clean a pool?

The ideal schedule for pool cleaning is at least once per week. This schedule provides the ideal balance of not allowing problems to grow while still making each cleaning worth it. Weekly pool cleaning also helps you avoid expensive repairs in the future. By spot-cleaning when needed, such as skimming leaves and debris out of the pool or scrubbing away an algae spot, you can keep your pool in prime condition. It’s also recommended that you schedule a pool cleaning after any unusual scenarios, including hot weather, a pool party or a pet jumping in the pool.

What is the best pool cleaner?

If you want to get an automatic pool cleaner to supplement your regular service, your best bet might be a higher-end unit. But ultimately, the best one for you will depend on your budget and needs.

You can choose from pressure-side pool cleaners, which can remove leaves, twigs and other objects from the bottom and sides of your pool. Or, consider a suction-side pool cleaner, which tends to be more budget-friendly. And there are robotic pool cleaners that do everything automatically. Robotic cleaners are typically the most expensive and most effective option.

I called yesterday concerning the condition of our inground pool. The pool was serviced by another company. They scheduled an appointment for today. Arrived on time and Gilbert explained the issues and went to work to bring the pool back to a satisfactory condition.

After building a new deck our pool was filthy and took pressure washing before the acid wash. Just Pool Services went the extra mile.

Teo and his team completed the job of replacing our pool heater- a job our longtime pool company refused to do. It required some hard labor and they completed it in one day. I received a quick response and an appointment was made for the same week. Communication has been clear and easy. They are friendly and professional. I have hired them to service our pool from now on, replacing the company that did the job for many years at this house. Atlanta has a lot of pools and this is a competitive market. Roswell Pool Service really stands out.

I highly recommend Alex with all of your swimming pool needs. I had a difficult time finding a company that services my side of town. I found Alex on Thumbtack, gave him a call, and he scheduled to come by the following day to inspect my pool and give me a quote. Alex is very knowledgeable about pool repairs, installations, and maintenance. He provides impeccable service and I am overly thrilled with how my pool looks. 5 STARS ⭐️

Teo came out to give me an estimate for resurfacing the pool and repairing the damages area of the skimmer. Teo was quite affordable compared to the other quotes. I scheduled a confirmed appointment with Teo to fix the skimmer and the spa drain for Tuesday morning. Teo never show up. I called a few times and texted a few times via phone and Thumbtacks app and never got a response. I end up using Of The Deep End Pool and was very happy with their service. They were on time, responsive, and reasonably in price. Teo is a nice gentleman when I met him but he is not responsive. I wish it was otherwise.

No call no show. I had contacted another provider about a monthly pool service and PPS reached out to me to me. We scheduled an appointment for the following week and I attempted to confirm through the app the day prior with no response. So I called and left a voicemail the day of and received no response. I even waited several days to see if he would contact me to provide a reason for missing the appointment or to reschedule and never heard from him. I would not recommend hiring if you need someone reliable.
