We had the whole outside of our large home painted as well as several inside bedrooms which also required some drywall repair. The work was needing to be done quickly, as the house was getting ready for sale. There were no spills, paint drops or overspray, which I have experienced with other company's. All area's they worked on were left spotless with no mess for us to clean up. They went above and beyond what we expected and will refer them to all those looking for a painter! He's already gotten work from some of the surrounding neighbor's who commented to us on what a great job he did.

Bartlett roofing was a pleasure to work with via phone calls as I live in California, my roofing project in my Meridian rental. Everything ran smooth and efficient. Dan was awesome, my daughter (renter) is very happy with the project results and her interaction with Dan. Would highly recommend!

Don was here on time daily. He did much more than we originally planned. At one point he was not happy with the way the tile back splash looked so he redid it all at no charge. He takes recommendations very well. Due to medical issues it took longer than I had planned but the end result is great. Good work for a reasonable price.

Leak in tile roof. Rob Moore did an outstanding and professional job of showing me all of the damage and what needed to be done in advance to his work. He did a great job of repairing the roof and at 1/2 the price that I was quoted by another roofing company in Nampa. Plus, Rob Moore gave us a 2 year warranty on his work. The other much more expensive roofing company would not give us a warranty on their work or show us what the damage was and what they needed to do to repair the roof. OBTW - this leak was fixed and I paid for the repair work last December to the more expensive roofing company in Nampa and since they did not warranty their work I ended up paying twice for the work they had already billed me for. I am now recommending Moore Roofing to everyone I know that may need roof work done and also warning everyone I now to stay away from the other larger roofing company in Nampa.

Home remodel included expansion of dining room (7.5' x 15.5'); enclosing back porch (12' x 16') as a 4-season room (HVAC); remodel Master Bath; re-tile double-sided fireplace; add 400 sf deck. Around $50K project lasting about 10 weeks (mid July thru beginning of Oct 2013). Exceptional project results. Very detailed-oriented. Excellent communication. Nate was meticulous in his work product, and he made some very worthwhile suggestions that made the project results better, esthetically. He didn't hesitate to ask the Boise City inspectors for a courtesy inspection meeting, on-site, to discuss any construction issues. I was always informed and included in any of these discussions. While I hired some of the subcontractors (electrical and wood flooring), he didn't hesitate to coordinate his work efforts with theirs. His subcontractors (HVAC, Deck Shade Structure, and Painting) did exceptional work, as well. While there were a few 'glitches,' Nate went the extra mile to make things right. Very happy with the project outcome, and all our friends and family are in "awe" of the results. While Nate is "young" (I'm a senior citizen), he has many demonstrable remodeling trade skills, and possesses a great sense of customer service. I would and will hire Nate again, and highly recommend his construction/re-modeling company.

Steve received my request to repair a leaking roof from Thumbtack, and started work the very same day. The quality of his work in repairing water damage on a patio covering was top notch, and he worked with roofing contractors to re-shingle the back half of my house, and wrap-up all needed repairs (joists, header, sealants, flashing and shingles) within two weeks for the initial price quoted. Steve, you or one of your crew left a 20 oz. claw hammer on the roof. It's here if you need it back. Thanks for your expediency and the quality of your work. John

I can't say enough about this company. If you are looking for a roofing contractor you need to call this one. I had some pretty bad isssues that were not apparent around my chimney until the old roof was taken off. They did not try to jab me for more money than what it took to fix the issue. They are honest and hard working professionals. Totally satisfied!!

In the early stages of selling my property Mark, a prior acquaintance I met at a social event, came to my house with a couple of investors interested in my property. An hour prior to their arrival I had discovered extensive snow and ice damage to my roof. It was in May and I had phoned other sources and was told most contractors were backed up for months due to the extensive roof damage throughout the Treasure Valley the record setting winter had bestowed on us. When Mark arrived I felt I was in between a rock and an oncoming train. Before Mark left my house he went on the roof and assessed the damage despite not being scheduled to do so. He started making phone calls right away and in a couple of days his roofers were on the roof doing a tear off of the old roof. OOOH NOOO! After the tear off we discovered additional damage, The roof was probably 60 years old and previous water damage made the project more than was planned to do a quick repair. WHAT I REALLY LIKED ABOUT MARK was that when he had to make a decision he ALWAYS talked to me first and we discussed the construction and costs prior to approval. He and his crew did a roof remodel that took some expert skill in carpentry and ingenuity. I would watch in awe how he put a steeper pitch on the existing roof and eliminated all the problem areas. After that Mark had his roofing crew come back in and install the new roof. I was so pleased with Mark that I ask him if he he had some one who could do the drywall on the ceiling where the previous roof had leaked. He had a crew over that day to give an estimate and they quickly got started and the ceiling looks just great. His painters came in and finished the job to my complete satisfaction. IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN: I would hire Mark Adams "Build-It-USA".

My wife and I received bids from four contractors and decided to award our project to Metcalf Exteriors because we were impressed with Jeff Metcalf. He asked questions about what we wanted and showed us what he had to offer. The deciding factor for us is that Jeff is an Idaho native and lives in Owyhee County so we knew he knows how to work. Jeff transformed our home by installing new siding, fascia and soffit. My wife and I appreciate Jeff's attention to every detail. We found Jeff to be respectful of our space and we are very happy with his work. Before finishing our project, our neighbors were impressed enough to hire Jeff to fix their place up too. If you hire Metcalf Exterior Enhancements for your project it will be money well spent.

This was a huge job. The work was great, not perfect but very good. They did not leave a big mess each day they worked (which was something I worried about) and were very friendly and good to work with. My only complaint was the timeline. They said it would take two weeks and it took 4.5. It was a big job however but there were several days that no one was there. But overall they were great and I'd recommend them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
