Lindsey S. says, "I would click all 5 choices if it let me! She was absolutely amazing. The sweetest woman ever and she made everything go so smoothly! We told her exactly what we were doing and how we were doing it and she did the exactly what was needed. I had questions about 10 days after Ms. Stuckey officiated our marriage license and she responded to me right away and assured me that something I needed to know was being correctly done and was very knowledgeable! If I had to get married all over again (lol) I would hire her again! I have a friend whom I recommend to Stuckey who is also going to use her in the next year for her wedding! She’s amazing and sweet and her personality is so inviting! Thank you!"See more

Brandy S. says, "Got married on 8/19/2023 Carol was absolutely amazing. She was very professional and kind. My new husband was in awe of her kindness and the way she handled our wedding. Definitely worth her rates although for her now knowing how wonderful she is id have paid three times her rates for her services. My brothers- in-law thought she was amazing even let the guys look at her car since they are all car buffs and she drives a couple of the guys dream car. She was a lot of fun to talk with and very understanding when time and issues arose on both sides. Very flexible with us as we were with her. I'd recommend her to anyone and everyone we know getting married and I definitely plan to do so when any of our friends and family get married next. We absolutely adore her and her professionalism as well as her relaxed personality. Carol thank you so very much for the amazing and perfect job you did for Neil and I on our wedding day. 🥰🥰🥰"See more

Kristina F. says, "I hired C2Detail Events for my wedding in Chicago end of September 2021. All I can say is WOW! Charlene and her team decorated my wedding even better than I could have imagined! I gave Charlene a vision and she executed it above and beyond. We met prior to the wedding to talk about what I wanted, what I was thinking, and the whole wedding day. The we stayed in contact whenever I needed it. I asked for a rustic style touches with colorful flowers. C2Detail Events decorated 3 tables, made a Chuppah for the ceremony, aisle decor, tons of fabric draping to cover walks, and dessert table. I was shocked when I walked in to the venue to see it all for the first time. It was so gorgeous and lush. Charlene brought some of her own ideas and decor and it was just absolutely perfect! Additionally C2Details provided day-of-coordination. Mary was my day of coordinator and she was amazing. She kept the schedule running on time, was so helpful, and organized. I don’t know what I would have done without her help! Lastly, C2detail’s whole team was on point day of, done on time, and so sweet! One word to sum things up: TRUST. Trust C2Detail to get what you want done for one of the most memorable days of your life. Tell Charlene what you want, and she will run with it and get it done better! And isn’t that what everyone needs when planning a wedding? Thank you so much!!! ***I’ll add in more photos once I get the professional ones back!"See more

Mohammad B. says, "Rojin was our “Wedding Day Coordinator” on April 2022. We absolutely can’t imagine our wedding day without her! She managed a major issue which had the potential to turn into a crisis. For some reason, our sound system was acting up, and our DJ couldn’t figure out the problem. She reacted to the incident very calmly and managed to find the standby technician quickly while we were just looking at each other trying to understand what had happened. And our guests responded to this very positively and it was like they were really enjoying themselves by singing and dancing while the issue was getting fixed. Without her, this two-minute incident could’ve ruin our night, but instead, now we have a beautiful memory of an issue that was outside of our control. Throughout that night, she was always there for us, by her attention to details. She was noticing small imperfections in Bride’s wedding dress while the Bride was dancing. She was fixing all those imperfections that she noticed on the fly. We didn’t even notice everything that she did, not till six months later when we were watching our wedding movie. We recommend her Wedding Day services."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How much does a wedding planner cost per hour?

On average, wedding planners charge $80 for their services. However, rates can range from roughly $50 per hour to $100 per hour, or even more than $300 per hour.

To find out how much it will cost to hire a wedding planner, request cost estimates from a few in your area. Also, keep in mind that some wedding planners may have flat fees instead of hourly rates.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

How much does it cost for a wedding planner?

Wedding planning is a full-time job — unless you hire a professional to handle the hard work for you. The cost for a wedding planner will depend on the level of service you desire. The least expensive wedding planner option is day-of coordination, then partial service, then full-service.

The national average cost for wedding planning is between $990 and $1,300. Costs are greatly affected by region, with rural or smaller-town wedding planners often far more affordable than planners in higher-cost cities. Here are some examples of the various levels of wedding planning and their potential average costs:

  • Day-of-wedding coordination: $800-$1,700. Day-of services can include the planner finalizing all details, creating a timeline, confirming vendors and overseeing all setup, day-of activities, and cleanup. The couple does all the front-end planning and contracts all the vendors. Time commitment could be about 15-25 hours, depending on pricing.
  • Partial service: $1,500-$3,800. Here the planner works with the couple from the beginning, helping contract vendors, creating a timeline, and overseeing all details of day-of execution. Time commitment could be about 30-60 hours, depending on package and pricing.
  • Full service: $3,500-$8,000 or more. Here the professional handles all wedding and planning details including working on design, securing rentals, getting the venue and vendors, and handling complete execution of the event. Time commitment could be 50-150 hours or more, depending on package and pricing.
  • Consulting: $50-$150 per hour for design, vendor, reception and other wedding planning consultation.

Do I need a wedding day coordinator?

Even if you’ve handled every detail of planning your wedding, you might appreciate having a day-of wedding coordinator in your corner. Usually, the coordinator meets with you a few weeks before your wedding to put together a detailed timeline of everything that needs to happen on your wedding day. Then, on the big day, the coordinator makes sure everything goes according to plan — and handles any emergencies that pop up, such as party crashers, missing tuxedos, late vendors, disappearing bridal party members and more. Most wedding coordinators also handle:

  • Distributing the wedding day timeline to all of your vendors.
  • Coordinating all of your vendors, including the photographer, florist and baker.
  • Conducting the wedding rehearsal.
  • Helping the bride and her wedding party get dressed and take photos.
  • Checking floor plans, lighting levels, cake placement, menus, favors and more.
  • Collecting the wedding gifts and keeping personal items safe and accounted for.

Even if you don’t think you need a wedding coordinator, check with your venue. Some require that couples hire a day-of wedding coordinator for the day of the event.

How much do day-of wedding coordinators cost?

A day-of wedding coordinator makes sure that every detail of your wedding day goes off without a hitch, and deals quickly and quietly with any last-minute emergencies. For many brides, the day-of wedding coordinator is their best investment! The average national cost for a wedding coordinator is $800 to $1,000. Although full-service wedding coordinators often charge a percentage of the total wedding budget, most day-of coordinators charge a flat fee plus an additional hourly fee if the day runs long. For example, a 15-hour day-of coordination costs an average of $600, plus an additional $45 per hour if the coordinator works more than the planned 15 hours. Another option is to hire a coordinator to manage the last-minute details leading up to the event; for example, 25 hours of month-of coordination costs an average of $1,200. Several factors affect the cost of day-of coordination, including the region, the planner’s experience, and the specifics of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in two different locations, expect to pay more than if they’re in the same place. Also, extra details, such as managing food trucks or setting up snacks in addition to the meal, will increase the cost.

What should you ask a wedding coordinator?

When you hire a wedding coordinator, you want to make sure he or she gets you and can execute perfectly your vision of your dream wedding. To find the very best fit, it’s important to ask these five questions:

  • Are you available on my wedding date? If the coordinator isn’t available on your big day, there’s no reason to continue the interview — unless you’re willing to shift your date to accommodate their schedule.
  • What’s average cost of most of your weddings? If the coordinator’s usual wedding is outside your range, they might not be the right coordinator for you. Ask whether the coordinator requires a minimum wedding budget. In general, the wedding coordinator’s fee should be about 15 percent of your budget.
  • What is your speciality? Some coordinators specialize in day-of coordination, some create the overall vision, and others act as a producer. Make sure your wedding coordinator provides the type of services that will most help you create the event you have in mind, such as selecting vendors and handling their contracts, or managing the guest list and invitations.
  • What are your ideas for fulfilling our wedding vision? After you describe your dream wedding — rustic or sophisticated, traditional or funky — the wedding coordinator should be able to suggest appropriate venues, menus, decorations, etc..

Do you have a portfolio? Ask to see photos of their favorite weddings, especially if they’ve managed any that are similar to what you have in mind. This will help you see if you like their style and if their ideas seem fresh and creative.

What does a wedding coordinator do?

A wedding coordinator is involved in the wedding planning process, but some coordinators focus on the day-of activities and schedule. These professionals are sometimes referred to as “day-of wedding coordinators.” They make sure your wedding starts on time, the vendors are there and everything runs smoothly. Essentially, they are your point person. And they can help minimize the stress (and jitters) brides and grooms may experience when throwing a wedding.

Is a wedding planner worth the cost?

Hiring a wedding planner can be worth the cost if you want to minimize your stress and save yourself time. Let’s be real — planning a wedding is a lot of work. You have to figure out a budget, shop around for vendors (DJs, bands, florists, caterers, chefs, photographers, videographers, etc.), negotiate contracts, book appointments and so much more.

If you’re not interested in planning a wedding all on your own, consider hiring a wedding planner — especially if you have the budget.

What do wedding planners do?

Wedding planners do exactly what their job titles indicate — they plan your entire wedding and handle the logistics. For example, they will:

  • Identify the best DJs, caterers, florists, photographers and other vendors for your wedding.
  • Help negotiate and set up contracts with your vendors.
  • Keep track of your budget and spending.
  • Make sure that everything runs smoothly on your wedding day.

In some cases, you might need to hire a separate wedding designer to handle the styling services or a wedding coordinator to oversee the schedule and activities the day of your wedding.
