I like my new floor! I had Andean and his partner (1) screw down the subsurface to reduce squeaking and (2) install the hard wood flooring. Andean was responsive to come for the estimate. He gave a reasonable price, started work on time and finished on time. I enjoyed watching this team doing their work. They were receptive to my questions and concerns. The finished product looked good. Two small improvements could be made: (1) some n-shaped nails from the nail gun are too close to the wood surface /edge (vs on the wood-tongue) that made the wood covering the nail stuck out (heaved a tiny bit) thus looking a tiny bit damaged. Should avoid this. (2) when the installer put the wood putty to cover the nail holes, he appeared to smear the extra putty off his finger on the near-by area, thus there are small patches of smear that I need to clear off in many places. No big deal on my part but again this could have avoided by wiping the extra putty on a piece of paper. Overall I am happy with the work and I will recommend the service.

I simply needed a hole drilled into my kitchen counter for a filtered water faucet. After receiving bids from other companies that were outrageously high, this company quoted me a very, very reasonable cost to do the work. The technician was friendly, cordial, and efficient. He called to let me know he was on his way, and he arrived on time. He did the work quickly and cleaned up all of the debris left behind. He also showed me where he could fix the nicks in the countertop when I could afford to do so. This company does outstanding work, and they don't charge you "an arm and a leg"!! I will call this company to do all of my granite and countertop work from now on.

This review is long overdue!! I recently used Emmet for a move back in August - can't say enough about what a good experience it was. Emmet and his teammate arrived on time, ready to work! They had plenty of supplies on hand to help the day run smoothly (bubble wrap, dolly's, furniture pads, etc.). The move was completed in a timely manner. Emmet was very professional and a pleasure to work with. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone seeking a hard working mover!

I had Lucy clean my house last Friday. Before I go on and review their job, let me just say that I was so happy she was fluent in English! I had lovely people perform this job in the past for us, the language barrier turned out to be the problem every time though. When she showed up - on time 9am - she brought along 3 girls, one of them a supervisor Margaret (spelling?) who, too was fluent speaker. Hallelujah:) I am very particular when it comes to cleanliness. I did go over room after room to see if my requests were met. Everything was clean, put away (they have a rule - no dishes, which I am ok with), they used natural products (except the toilet bowls - where I prefer to bleach the life out of it:) and our marble kitchen island and quartz coffee table). Communication was fast and efficient, $ reasonable and I will update if things change but as of now I have nothing but positive things to say about Lucy's work.

We were in need of regrouting and sealing - quick. Gino's quote came through immediately and his office was easy to reach. We were extra lucky that he was able to complete the job on the same day. He did an amazing job deep cleaning and regrouting travertine marble in a large steam shower. It looks terrific, and we are amazed that this was all completed within a day.

We had a great experience working with the folks at Power Marble and Granite . Everyone did a great job. Our sales rep, Alexandra really worked with us to pick out the best piece of granite to complement our existing powder room fixtures. Scheduling the job was easy and we did not have to wait long to get an install date. The installers were exceptional. They were efficient and professional and had the new vanity top perfectly in place in no time. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a stone countertop.

I have used A1 Polish Services for about 10 years. The service is excellent. They are always on time and clean in a professional manner. Grace, the owner, is accommodating when a change of date or time is required. I believe that the personal way clients are handled sets them apart. I plan to use them for the next 10 years, at least!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

      • Old standard or electric toothbrush
      • Stiff bristle brush
      • Spray bottle
      • White vinegar
      • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
