About

I help families, couples and individuals to understand the underlying, root causes of their hardships, with the aim to strengthen healthy patterns, while minimizing unhealthy ones. On the way, I help people to learn to handle more effectively their struggles and the discomfiting realities that aggravate their lives - realities that stir up the feelings of depression, anxiety, turmoil and anger that first brought them to look for counseling. Sometimes, our lives have disturbing external realities that can be altered, but too often, external changes are impossible. When this is the case, then, I assist clients to learn ways to develop the inner strengths which will help them search for effective ways to live in and cope with constructive harmony with these realities. Every person who walks into my office is unique. Each views the world from the specific vantage point of the values, needs, style and beliefs that upbringing and nature have encouraged her or him to develop. In honoring such, I respectfully relate to each client's individuality, whether as a family, couple or individual. In working with families and couples, I aim to discover, constructively resolve and help understand the underlying issues which lie behind the negative patterns and resulting hurts which have created the unhappiness that prodded them to seek help through counseling.

About

Hello. My name is Dr. Christina Samycia. I hold a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a masters degree in Kinesiology and am the author of Discovering Inner Peace. I am eclectic in my approach and utilize insight-oriented, existential, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral interventions in combination with neuro-emotional technique (NET) and hypnosis. I emphasize mindfulness and a mind-body approach. My method is unique and impactful because I assist in uncovering and releasing conscious and subconscious patterns and belief systems that trigger emotional responses and keeps us stuck in dysfunctional behaviors. I believes that in order to transcend our emotional pain and make permanent lifestyle change, it is important to work on the conscious, subconscious and energetic levels. My specialties include depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship issues, trauma, as well as working with individuals who are highly sensitive, introverted and/or intuitive.

Visit Portrait Health Centers on the web to schedule an appointment! The Portrait Health Centers' clinical psychologist integrates evidence-based, goal-oriented treatments, and ongoing assessments to address the full range of psychiatric issues. Newer treatments, including non-invasive neurostimulatory therapies, and treatments for sequential cognitive processing, motor planning, and sensory processing are among the treatments available at Portrait Health Centers. Effective, evidence-based, quality treatment has no secrets or mysteries. Symptom Management Through Psychology: Portrait Health clinical psychologists' expertise include stress management, family therapy, marital counseling, grief counseling, relational therapy, mediation, violence risk assessment, crisis intervention, trauma recovery as well as public safety leadership; helping people reach their full potential, emphasizing health and wellness; being strategic, intentional, and courageous to find the meaning and fulfillment in their life. Why visit a clinical psychologist? There are several kinds of mental health providers: psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, life coaches, and counselors (to name a few). All of these types of clinicians can be effective in different areas. Only a clinical psychologist is uniquely qualified to conduct psychological testing. The training behind testing can give a clinical psychologist a deeper and more accurate understanding of mental illness. This understanding is a foundation for providing excellent therapy and other psychological services. Psychological Testing: Computer-Based Impulsivity and Attention Screening: o How severe are the inattention and impulsivity problems? o Is medication required? Effective? o What is the correct kind and dose of medication? IQ / Achievement / Learning Disabilities: o Why is my child struggling in school? o Is my child intellectually gifted? o Can my child effectively show how much he knows? o What will help my child do better in school? Even children with IEPs and 504 plans should have this kind of assessment. Full Psychological Evaluation: o What is my diagnosis? o What treatments would work best for me? o How can I improve myself? o What are my intellectual strengths and weaknesses? Therapy: Therapy is different for everybody. It depends on what you want and what you need. It may be one-on-one with a psychologist, or it may include parent training, couples counseling, or group therapy. Therapy goals may include: o Interpersonal effectiveness o Managing ADHD (and other illness) symptoms o Taking better care of yourself o Tolerating the distresses of everyday life o Moving beyond disappointments and loss o Overcoming barriers to personal achievement o Regulating mood and impulses o Improving your quality of life o Learning about depression, anxiety, bipolar and PTSD o Becoming a better partner, spouse, child, parent, friend Specialties/Services: * Marital/Relationship Therapy * Family Therapy * ADHD Testing * Adult ADHD Coaching * Psychotherapy, Individual, Marital, Family * Post-Traumatic Incident Debriefing * Mediation * Stress Management and Prevention * Chemical Dependency Counseling Training/Consultation Schedule an initial consultation a Portrait Health clinical psychologist to learn more about how we can help! Online Counseling Therapy via Skype: If you are simply too busy to come into the office, consider seeking treatment with me via an online session. Utilizing on-line sessions via Skype may be an option for you. If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or ways to cope with venturing out, this may be an effective form of treatment. If you are intimidated by the face-to-face sessions of an office setting, you can feel generally more relaxed and in charge of the process. As a professional online psychotherapist, I am convinced that this is a wonderful option because the purpose of any form of therapy, teaching or coaching experience is to give my clients the tools to better manage emotional suffering, so that you can live a happier and more joyful life. The process is simple. You simply download the software that allows you to make Skype video calls from Skype.com. I can help you set it up and most importantly, the service from Skype is free. Keep in mind Skype therapy sessions can be conducted from anywhere in the world. You simply need access to the internet. We can become connected through this wonderful technology and the possibilities are limitless for promoting your wellbeing and happiness.

I am a family practice physician . I am always in need of a good psychologist to help with patients' mental health. The patients that I've sent to Matt McDonald have had nothing but good things to say about him . I highly recommend him . I would entrust my family to him.
