Justin Barks is easy and pleasant to work with and his fees are very reasonable. The residential lawn in Glendale, MO, had not been cut in a while. Justin didn't bat an eye when he saw the grass was knee-high. He communicated and verified our wants and needs to make sure he did what we expected. He exceeded expectations (at no extra charge) when he made time to cut it the day after he saw the lawn and gave us a quote. The lawn looks professional -- like a precisely manicured golf course. No job seems too big for Justin. We will use him on a regular basis. I would recommend him to anyone.

Barrale Brothers Painting did some exterior painting for me. They came out and gave me an estimate first, then set up an appointment. The painters came when they said they were going to come, handled themselves very professionally, and cleaned up after themselves. I was impressed with the overall professionalism. The job they did was just fantastic, as well. After they had done the painting, I ended up replacing one of the doors. I have already put a call in to have them come back and paint the new door to match everything else.

I had read reviews on this company and many reviews were vague and others said they were a construction conpany and the painting wasn’t the highest quality because they don’t specialize in it. Hiring this company was our best decision. After pricing other painters we decided to save the extra $2000+ that another painting company wanted to charge us for exact lines and go with a company that was both quick to begin work and really made a effort to make sure we were satisfied. They were professional and quick. They cleaned up everything and any areas of concern were addressed until we were completely happy. We love the paint work they did and considering it was a large portion of our 2100 sq ft they got it done in a quick time frame. We will use this company again for more things in the future and will recommend to friends.

Emily and her team painted quite a few rooms of my house. The work they did was very nice and done promptly. Emily was very available and responsive, which was great since I went back and forth on what I wanted to paint! She was super flexible when I said I needed it done right away then totally postponed indefinitely. She was right there and willing to help and wait. She came to scope the project then sent a qualified and professional painter who did the work. He was very nice and did great work. We have a ton of doors, baseboard and windows with beautiful wood trim and naturally I was nervous he may get some paint on them. He didn't touch them at all! The trimming is perfect.

Mike and his crew were pleasant and engaging, professional and did a wonderful job painting my new home. They completed the project within the time frame projected and always made certain that I was pleased with the result. The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is that I felt that I needed to supervise the project closely (although that could just be because I'm very picky!) I would definitely recommend Mike and his crew; as a matter of fact they are going to be starting a new painting project for me in just 3 weeks!

I am an experienced painter who takes great pride in attention to detail and the ability to bring my clients the highest quality of work for less. I can do this because I perform the work myself. In most cases, this allows my customers to save nearly 50%!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

      • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
      • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
      • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
      • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
