ASAP Tree Services met with us to give us a quote and were able to schedule the job very quickly. They showed up with a group of 6-7 workers and trimmed 2 trees as well cleared some small trees and bushes that were growing outside of our fence and damaging it. They did all this within a 2 hour window. They were very knowledgeable in their work, and provided some suggestions to our landscaping ideas that improved on the outcome we had expected. Very efficient and thorough. Very friendly as well. Would absolutely use them again for a job in the future. Thanks!

We returned home on Monday to find damage to our roof from the heavy winds. After posting to Thumbtack, Steve was very quick to respond. He promised to come by to give an estimate on Tuesday morning and followed through with that promise. After we spoke Steve went above and beyond to make sure our roof was secured from leaking by doing a temporary fix until he could come back the next day for the permanent fix. He wanted to make sure if we had rain we wouldn't have any damage. The job was finished today and I would highly recommend using Steve with Green Line Roofing. I will definitely keep his number for any future roofing needs. Thanks Steve!

Our roof rafters were installed without proper bracing, so the roof had begun to sag. Stacey put in knee wall supports under both inclines. He was knowledgeable, courteous, efficient and cleaned up when finished.

Mr. Disinger took care of an ice dam on my roof which was causing water from snow and rain in winter to flow back and cause wetness in an upstairs bedroom (carpet near baseboard) and water in my garage. He also painted a small section of the wood near this area and cleaned my gutters. It took him about 6 hours to complete the job. He came to my house to take a look and to give me an estimate for the job the very day I first contacted him. Luckily for me, he was in the area. I like the way the materials and resources needed for the work and the labor were priced before the actual estimate was given. He kept in touch with me as the estimate was being figured, and that took a few days because he wanted to make sure he was getting the best price for the supplies. Everything Mr, Disinger used for the job was high quality material. Mr. Disinger was prompt and even gave me a call one time when he could be at my home earlier than expected. He snapped before and after photos and showed them to me after the job was completed. Everything looks great, and I am not expecting anymore ice dams. The rain will flow more freely from gutters, too. I have no complaints, and nothing could have improved my experience with Mr. Disinger. I highly recommend him for any job you need done around your house!

Doug is a high quality, high integrity and trustworthy good guy. He also happens to be an amazing general contractor. Great value. Extremely diligent and his attention to detail is unmatched. We will be using him for many jobs around our home from flooring, to drywall repair, electrical and general repair. He's also well connected with a number of other service providers (plumbers, electricians) that he was able to mobilize for our project. We are so lucky to have found him. Thanks Thumbtack. Thank Doug!!!

Outstanding service and price! I would highly recommend Hardcastle Construction! He came out on a Sunday, evaluated the roof, purchased the materials, and fixed the roof vents within an hour. In fact while he was here, we hired him for more jobs in the future. He truly went above and beyond and was very friendly!

I had storm damage to my roof and was having trouble with my insurance company on my claim. I knew Brad, as our son's played baseball together, and asked him if he could take a look at our roof and let me know what to do. He came out and verified we had hail damage, and asked if I was ok with him taking care of it. He contacted the insurance adjuster and asked them to come back out, and showed them the damage to our roof. He took care of all the paperwork regarding our claim, and the only thing we had to do was decide what color of shingle and gutters (did I mention we got new gutters too!). Brad called to let me know what day the roofers would be at our home, and they showed up on time and ready to go. His workers were very respectful of our property and did an excellent job cleaning up afterwards. The entire experience could not have gone better. I highly recommend Central Indiana Exteriors.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
