When I started training with Sean I was a 39 year old mother of two. I've struggled with my weight my whole life. I didn't exercise; didn't really know how to, and I certainly didn't watch what I ate. That's not the role model I wanted to be for my kids. I didn't want to be the mom who sat on the sidelines and watched her kids lives go by. I found Sean through a co-worker. Didn't know anything about hiring a personal trainer, but I lucked out and gave him a chance. It wasn't easy but I stuck with it and didn't quit. I trained with Sean for about a year. During that time I lost 40lbs and my strength and fitness level increased phenomenally! He not only taught me how to exercise, he also taught me about nutrition. Even though I don't train with him anymore, we keep in touch and I still ask Sean advice on all things fitness related.
When looking for a personal trainer, it struck me exactly how hard it is to find quality in any service. Most people are bad at most things, and people that take their work seriously are rare. I signed up for some classes with a trainer at my gym. Paid a reasonable amount. Got terrible advice and hurt myself. The trainer was probably trying his best but just didn't have the experience or knowledge to help me learn correctly. I was afraid to make a more serious financial commitment with no guarantee that I'd get better results... but I tried out ELIN, and I'm glad I did. I got a phone call from Elin and was immediately impressed with his knowledge and his ability to communicate effectively about critical aspects of getting in shape. It was clear this was a no-bs trainer that was interested in actually providing training rather than tricking me into paying an exorbitant price and then phoning it in. I began sessions with a trainer named Kris. Kris had the body to indicate that he knows how to work out, but that isn't always enough. You have to be an effective teacher as well. It turns out Kris has an excellent eye for form and was able to explain, over the course of our sessions, specific issues with my body that needed to be addressed. He found exercises that addressed those issues, and if I had difficulty with that exercise, he found a new one that worked better. He strikes an excellent balance between fixing form and letting you get on with the workout, neither constantly interrupting you nor letting you do useless reps. He was also able to explain and demonstrate over time the importance of the less glamorous parts of the workout, such as stretching and SMR, which all of us "know" are important but which we never really accept as crucial. In short, all of my expectations for hiring a professional trainer were met. These guys don't screw around. If you're serious, hire ELIN.
I can’t say enough good things about Julian! We definitely hit the jackpot with him and in a very short time, he’s become a great trainer, mentor and role model for my 15 year old son who has wanted to increase his strength/stamina while working on his soccer skills. Julian very quickly responded to my search for a personal trainer and was incredibly professional during our introductory call. It was evident that his knowledge of /experience with soccer as a player and coach would be a good match for my son. He also shared his philosophy about strength training with kids, specifically how he seeks to understand what motivates and is important to them, so he could then weave in his expertise which ultimately would result in a truly customized program to help accomplish their goals. He was eager to “meet” my son and scheduled some time to speak with him personally over the phone and get to know him. I was impressed at how he was able to get from a 15-year old boy, what his fitness goals were! In less than a week of my initial inquiry, my son was training in the gym with Julian and has absolutely loved every session with him. Julian maximizes every second during each workout and even encourages kids to come in early to get warmed up (so really, while you pay for a 60-minute session, you get 70-75 minutes!) My son has already noticed physical changes, but beyond that, his sense of confidence, focus, and dedication has increased tremendously. Julian provides encouragement inside and outside the gym by keeping tabs on my son and checking in on how he’s doing. Even when my son tried out for another soccer team, Julian gave him sound advice throughout the process, acted as a sounding board, and alleviated any anxiety he had. When I first met Dimitri over a year ago, I had a long way to go on my fitness journey and was a little bit intimidated about starting a training program. During our first training session I nearly passed out because I was out of shape, and I wasn’t fueling my body the way I needed. Right away Dimitri made me feel reassured that I could, and would, get stronger and better if I put in the work. He took the time to help me set my goals, discuss my likes/dislikes, and from there, created a custom plan for me to reach my goals. The program he designed relies on high-intensity intervals, coupled with strength training and kickboxing. I had never tried kickboxing before, but now it has become my favorite part of our sessions! A few months into our training I injured my ankle and thought I would need to put training on pause. Because of Dimitri’s expert knowledge of kinesiology and his extreme attention to avoiding further injury, I was able to continue on a modified program and make steady progress towards my goals. Not only is Dimitri incredibly knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition, but also he is encouraging and supportive during every step of the way. He pushes me harder than I ever knew I could push myself, and thanks to him, I have been successful in my fitness journey and boosting my confidence. With his help, I’ve lost over 25 lbs, gained lean muscle and drastically improved my strength and flexibility!
I signed up with Svetness two months ago and the experience so far has been more than I could have hoped for. I had an initial consultation with Svet (the owner) and we discussed what my fitness goals were and discussed the plans they offered. One of the best things I liked about Svetness was that they offered personal training at customer's home. That was very important to me. He was very clear regarding both the company's and my obligations under the agreement and gave me ample time to ask questions regarding the company and contract. He was very pleasant and thorough. After signing the contract, he told me that I would be receiving an e-mail from my trainer within 2 days. Later that same day, I received an e-mail from my trainer, Georgi. We setup the initial session for the following Monday. Georgi was prompt for the first session (and all others since). We discussed my goals and he asked me more in-depth questions regarding my current fitness level, previous fitness experiences and medical history. Then he had me do some basic exercises so he could access what I was currently capable of handling. Georgi did not judge and gave the right amount of encouragement. The session went very well and we finalized the workout schedule for the remainder of the weekly sessions. He accommodated my personal schedule and were able to set up consistent times for each of my three weekly sessions. The best thing that I like about the workout sessions is that each session is totally different. They are never boring. Georgi has a great attitude and adds humor to the workouts. He also asks how I am feeling before we start and if my knee is sore or shoulders are hurting, he adjusts the workout he planned so that I don't further aggravate the sore areas. Another good thing about Svetness and Georgi is that you don't need to have a lot of equipment to have a great workout. Svet told me at the beginning that the only equipment I would need is an exercise/yoga mat. Subsequently, I purchased a small set of dumbbells and exercise bands ($70 total). Georgi takes the equipment I have and creates challenging and effective workouts for me with what I have. He also creates workouts for me to do on days where we are not meeting (my cardio days). I am human and there are cardio days where I don't have the time to do them. He understands that I have personal obligations and doesn't make me feel bad when life gets in the way of a workout. In the two months I have been working out with Georgi, I have lost 18 pounds and feel a lot better than when I began working out. I am stronger and my endurance has increased way more than I thought it would in such a short period of time. I owe a lot to Georgi and Svetness for what I have achieved and what I will achieve in the future. I read a lot of other reviews about Svetness and I saw some that were great and some that were not so great. All that I could say when it comes to working out with a personal trainer is that realize they need to have consistent business in order to make a living at this (thus the need for a contract). The customer needs to do an honest assessment of their current schedule and financial situation. If they are not certain that they have the time or financial resources, they should avoid signing a contract that requires this level of commitment. I am fortunate, I do have the time and financial resources. I asked all the questions before signing the contract. My experience has been fantastic and would recommend Svetness and my trainer Georgi to anyone.
Everyone wants to read that Rob gets results, and yes that is absolutely true so let's start there. And he ensures everyone gets noticeable results very quickly. Beyond being an excellent results-driven trainer, Rob is very low-stress, focused on health, and keeps a positive attitude with his clients. I also enjoy working with his group fitness classes as he takes pride in working with NORMAL PEOPLE and gives them reasonable goals step-by-step until reaching an optimal fitness goal - which is how he keeps his clients long term and instills a drive to JUST KEEP GOING! Rob is easy to work with so there is no quitting attitude because it was way too much to handle (or too little) - he truly finds a perfect balance for every workout. My personal results with Rob was from very out of shape to very in-shape in 6 months time - with about 40 pounds lost (and dropped about half of that in the first 6-8 weeks - and I'm not much of a dieter). Rob is also very, very reasonably priced and not greedy - despite being in an industry where he could very easily charge a lot more for what he does. I would not work with any other trainer and I whole-heartedly recommend him to everyone. I never had a thought about working with a trainer until Rob approached me on a treadmill in 2009. Thanks, Rob, for 6 awesome years now!
Nicole is amazing. Her credentials say she is a certified fitness trainer and yoga instructor, and she is every bit of that. She is a master of her crafts. But she is way more. She is a coach, confidant, motivator, and most of all, a gifted healer. As a physician, I know a healer when I encounter one. I feel so blessed to have invited Nicole to help me with my journey. After just a few weeks of being tortured by Nicole (nobody says health and fitness are easy) I am in my best shape in years. If I learn some of her amazing communication and motivational skills, she may make me a better doctor as well.
I had so much fun taking the 4 hour permit to carry class. The instructors were halarious. The class was hands on and interactive. I wasn't so comfortable with the thought of conceal carring at first because I am a petite woman but they helped me with that. They also helped me get over my fear of shooting at the range. I look forward to taking more 1 hour shooting lessons with them.
I work out with Aaron 3-4x week. I needed an experienced trainer who would take my fitness goals to the next level, and I must say Aaron has far exceeded my expectations. I'm gearing for my first body building competition this year, and Aaron thus far has taken me where I haven't been in a long time. Prior to meeting, he chatted with me for over 30 minutes about my goals & workout style. We both decided we were a good fit for each other and I started a week later. The workouts are always challenging and fun at the same time. Each time we do something different and I could feel and see my results immediately. Aaron himself is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, professional and intelligent. I highly recommend Aaron for any fitness goals you may have. You can't go wrong.
Mark Goldfarb has been my trainer since 1999 and Ive probably been with him the longest of his clients. He is professional in our relationship but also a very caring person. He has researched ways to help train me when I have had an injury or surgery. He has much patience and a way of pushing me when Im not motivated. He is responsive when I have told him that I am unusually sore after a session, adjusting the weights accordingly, and usually spending more time on that muscle. I have sworn that I will never be able to do a certain thing he wants me to do and slowly but surely, I will get there. I like the fact that he uses lots of different approaches to training the same muscle group. It is not only a good way of doing it, but it keeps the workouts from getting boring. Besides the weight machines , he uses bands, bosu balls, straps, discs and a variety of other resources to train. Not only is he interested in building my strength, but increasing my flexibility and balance. In addition, he is a certified yoga instructor and includes many yoga positions in my workouts. This has definitely increased my flexibility. In short, I would highly recommend him as a personal trainer.
I have trained with Tim on and off for the past 5 years. He has helped me to reach the various goals I set for myself over the years . . . from increasing fitness level, losing weight, shaping my body and overcoming and preventing injury. He has always been professional, supportive and very motivating. I met Tim shortly after having my son and my goal was to return to pre-baby shape and fitness level. Tim helped me to meet the pre-baby shape goal and exceeded the fitness level goal I had set. The workouts were always challenging and motivating. Tim and I usually met twice a week for 30 minutes of high intensity interval training (I would warm up and cool down on my own). At this point my cardio endurance was low and he really helped me to increase it. After meeting my goal I was able to maintain our progress on my own at the gym using the knowledge I gained from my sessions with Tim. Two years later, I realized I was slipping on my own (I love to eat and drink red wine!) and contacted Tim to regain the shape and fitness level we had previously established. Tim assessed my fitness level and created workouts that met my needs. Tim is great at identifying areas of weakness and tailoring exercises to strengthen those areas. Our workouts were typically 30 minutes, twice a week. This time, Tim began incorporating a lot more weight training. After several months of working with Tim, I once again exceeded my goals and I was stronger and more fit than I had ever been. I was able to go back to working out on my own, using the workouts and information I had gained from him, and maintain my fitness level. I frequently have people commenting about the exercises I am doing in the gym . . . they are impressed and want to use them! When I returned to Body Pump, the instructor also commented on how my strength had increased! Just last year I contacted Tim again. After several injuries (not from working out) and ongoing treatment and physical therapy, I was very frustrated with my body. Tim listened, in detail, as I explained my injuries and the problems/pain I was having trying to workout on my own and participate in classes at the gym. Based on what he heard and saw me doing he created workouts that helped to correct improper techniques I was using (due to injury) and strengthen muscles to help prevent further injury. After working with a physical therapist 3 times a week for many months, I did not see any improvement. After working with Tim 2-3 times a week for just a few weeks, I saw huge improvement! Currently, Tim has once again helped me to reach my highest fitness level yet.
I strongly recommend Shawn as your personal trainer. I am a 37 year old with a very sedentary job and completely out of shape . I have been working with Shawn for 6 weeks, thrice a week. My problem with a one size fitness program like p90x or a group class is that I cannot actually do them - i either injure myself or get so exhausted I cant do my work - so I can stick to a program and dont see results. Shawn took all of this into account and designed a custom program for me. He pushes me (but not to break point), mixes up the routine (that helps me stay interested) and offers a good explanation for why I am doing something. The diet plan is great. He is very professional and will email you meeting requests to schedule time and is on time for class. Thanks to Shawn, 6 weeks of rigorous exercise is the most I have done in my life - I hope to keep this streak going.
Silvia has worked on cardio, fitness, and flexibility training for my wife and I. Being older than the normal client, she is very sensitive to each our needs and limitations, and tailors each workout to achieve our objectives. Very perceptive, she understands the body mechanics and structure and makes sure each exercise is being done properly. I could not provide a more enthusiastic recommendation, she is superb! I do not know of any way she could improve on her approach.
I went to him to help my Jiu-Jitsu game and what I got was a whole lot more. He knows the science behind diet and exercise so well he was able to put me on an incredible diet and exercise regime which increased my strength, drop my weight from 186 lbs. down to 161 lbs. and as a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu his instruction took me to two first place finishes in tournaments. I recommend Chris as the only professional athlete, nutrition specialist and expert trainer with a B.S. degree in Sports & Exercise Science from a major university in the Frederick, Maryland area. The opportunity to be trained by a champion and athlete like Chris is rare in Frederick, MD so I would highly recommend him for personal fitness training, diet overhauls, and private instruction in his professional disciplines of wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Matthew Bible has helped me immensely in my efforts to be more physically fit. Over a six month period working with Matthew I have been able to see increases in all my personal records. Some of my measurable gains include increasing my bench press maximum from 205lbs to 315lbs; I can run a 5k in 25 minutes, which is down from 37 minutes and I have gained muscle, but lost 10lbs! His workouts are not limited to the standard gym norms, a fact that I both love and hate! We do varying styles of planks, pull-ups, floor bridges, push-ups, and some exercises that can only be shown and not explained, these creative exercises are odd but I cannot argue with the results! Matthew is there working with you every step of the way and making sure that not only are you doing the exercises to your full potential, but that you are also doing them correctly. I highly recommend Matthew as a friend and a personal trainer!
I trained at Shaddock MMA for 6 months before moving away from the area and I can say that it was the best martial arts gym I have ever been a part of. All of the other students and instructors are extremely helpful and respectful to beginners and experienced martial artists. I was just getting into MMA and was surprised to be personally worked with and coached from my first day at the gym to my last. There is a strong team atmosphere at the gym which is hard to find in a sport which can be so ego-driven. I can say without a doubt that I grew significantly as a martial artist and greatly enjoyed my time at Shaddock MMA. I would recommend it to anyone.
