Months ago, I looked for someone to do a small painting project on Thumbtack. And I ended up with a brand new home. Christian, Jessica, Hector and the rest of the team at 5th Gen Group honestly do miracles. We own a 100+ year old row home in Washington DC and we've had problems ever since we moved in five years ago. After dealing with four different contractors that left me unsatisfied, I tried Thumbtack (at that time, new in the DC area). Christian came out to do an estimate and I was impressed by him from the get go - as a woman, I hate when contractors act like I'm stupid or uninformed. Christian never did that, and he answered all my questions respectfully and thoroughly and would defer to my wishes. We initially contracted for a gut remodel of our ancient kitchen and leaking bathroom. Christian's professional opinion was heavily appreciated as well as his vision - he instantly "got" the feel of a space and spent a lot of time listening to not only what we wanted, but how we would use the space and what we planned for the house in the future. Of course, the best laid plans always go awry - we knew our house had a few "handyman specials" but once Christian opened up the floor in the kitchen, we realized we were really in for it. Down there was a hidden mess of rotting wires, missing piping, garbage from the last renovations, and rotted-out beams. Overnight, our budget doubled. I personally wanted to die. But Christian calmly lead us through the process, helped us try to salvage our murdered budget, and focused on explaining the trade-off in home values. We ended up with an additional half bath downstairs (because really, what was another 5K at that point?), brand new kitchen (with a small bar!) a brand new stairwell and relocated laundry room, and a brand new bathroom with a shower (after 5 years of an ancient leaking cast iron tub). Christian isn't completely perfect - he's totally a perfectionist, and if you are one too, be prepared for some long conversations. There is an epic texting exchange over the bathroom tile that I may print out just to see how long it really was. But that's about the only thing. Also, for the other ladies on here- I always hate opening my home to someone because I have had bad experiences with contractors who were, at best, creepy. Christian and Hector were completely professional, and they really went the extra mile to make sure I always knew who would be in the house, when they would arrive, and how to reach both of them. Christian also has a lot of loyalty and integrity toward his clients - he is always fair, both in pricing and in the treatment of your home. He broke a small appliance - the only reason I knew was because he called me when he was purchasing an (upgraded) replacement on his own dime. All renovations are hard projects, long projects, and frequently frustrating. There was definitely a day when I wanted to kill Christian for sending me out to two different quarries in far out Virginia right around rush around. But when I stepped into my home for the first time, I couldn't stop smiling. And when we finally scrape together the budget for a third floor extension, I know exactly who I am calling.
I needed someone to refresh and re-design my laundry room (if you can even call what I had a room!). Patrick came over to look at the present situation and the surrounding areas. Within a very quick time, he visualized a design, analyzed the pragmatics, and suggested in a clear and reasonable fashion a possible alternative. I had had no ideas of my own, but I knew a change was necessary. I liked his ideas and his quote was reasonable, and so I decided to proceed. Patrick dove in, repurposing old materials from the minor demolition, as well as acquiring new, appropriate, and improved materials. He was creative, hard-working, conscientious, problem-solving, responsible and timely, and always excellent with his clean-up. And his skills were versatile: carpentry, painting, minor wiring and moving of light fixtures, minor plumbing and moving of plumbing fixtures. The result was fantastic aesthetically and way more comfortable than the original layout. Additionally, the surrounding areas were improved, as the flow was changed, i.e. one now loops through the laundry room area from two entrances. I am thrilled with the new space and Patrick was a pleasure to work with. It is rare to find someone of his talents, spanning from construction knowledge and hands-on home repair to final decorating vision and implementation. I highly recommend Stare's Restorations.
I highly recommend the design services provided by Trait Interior’s Kelley Rucker. Decorating can be stressful, but Kelley made it as stress free as possible with her down-to-earth approach, positive outlook, up-beat personality, eager nature, and responsive communication. Kelley is one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure of knowing. She treated me like a friend instead of a client. She looked out for me every step of the way and had my best interest at heart during our consultation, shopping trips, and design implementation. Kelley listened intently, did her research, and took immediate action. She was ready to hit the ground running! It was refreshing that Kelley came up with a plan to tackle my design issues, sent me a course of action, and delivered. She even drove me around town during the shopping sessions and used her creative thinking and determination to overfill her car with large shopping items. She was right there at the store taking items apart and putting them back together at my home. Kelley was also accommodating and generous with her time and suggestions. Additionally, she is cost conscious and value oriented. If you have a budget, she will stick to it! Kelley loves what she does and her excitement for her work is infectious. No one else I spoke with showed the same kind of enthusiasm for my project as Kelley did. It’s important to feel like you are a priority when you want to accomplish a project, and Kelley made me a priority. I believe Kelley offers free phone and in home consultations, so you have nothing to lose by giving her a call.
Max & Donna helped my husband and me to make our decorating dreams come true. I am unable to go out and shop, etc. so it was a wonderful blessing to have them bring it all to us! They even made our dream of a downstairs "Great Room" happen! From concrete floors and 2 x 4 studs in the walls to beautiful tile floors, a stack stone fireplace and gorgeous window treatments -- well the list just goes on and this is now our favorite "retreat". Donna & Max worked closely with all their sources/resources to make things happen within budget, on time, what more could you possibly ask for? Thank you so very much Donna & Max for making our home such a delight to us!
Carlos and his team did an excellent job painting the interior of my home and also sealing our deck. As a new homeowner, it was great to meet Carlos who is knowledgeable and gave me different options on projects I needed to complete including interior painting. His team is very detail oriented and will be there until they finish the job. He even came back to do touchup paint on my walls where there were a few marks on the wall a few days later. Coloramma offers very reasonable prices and they offer a variety of services for home project. I intend to hire him again in the future.
Maria is a truly inspired designer. I love her work. Her vision is unfailingly crisp and fresh, and her use of color is unparalleled. She is collaborative and creative with a great sense of style. She helped us with our house remodel which focused on the creating a new kitchen, laundry room and additional den. She understood what we wanted, the style we liked, and gave us great ideas and suggestions to make our “new” home exactly like we wanted it. She is calm under pressure and gets the job done. She is a great design professional and I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a designer in NOVA. She has great vision and attention to detail. I look forward to hiring her on our next phase!
I am thrilled with the results of my brand new kitchen! I couldn't have hired a better company to redesign my kitchen. They really listened and took their time in making sure everything was exactly the way I invisioned my kitchen to look. I have already told my family and friends who are looking to update their homes. Dream Home Contractors were wonderful to work with! Janice P.
Elena was the project manager and interior decorator for our basement finishing project. She easily grasped how we wanted to use our basement and was able to provide suggestions on how to best achieve a beautiful and functional use of the space. Elena, worked with us to choose elements which looked good together and fit within our budget. We have since received several compliments on the finished project. Elena coordinated with us prior to in order to ensure it would not adversely impact our family. She quickly addressed any questions we had throughout the process and provided a weekly schedule so that we would know what was going on and who would be in our home. Any time that workers would be in our home outside of a normal 8AM to 5PM weekday, Elena coordinated with us prior to in order to ensure it would not adversely impact our family.
I was absolutely blown away by the work that was done by Eliza & Edison, LLC. Amy Lucas was very accommodating and met me at a hotel where I was attending a conference as to minimize my travel time. She showed up on time and had prepared two notebooks, one for me and one for my painter. She had several selections ready in order to discuss colors for the rooms I had been unable to choose and we were able to narrow those down quickly. My painter was equally impressed with the folder she had prepared for him and that made our discussion on room colors much easier. I told her she was worth every penny I was paying her – a compliment that I do not make very often. Eliza & Edison are very professional, courtesy, and friendly. I would use them again and highly recommend them to anyone. Well, maybe not my enemies, I don’t want their house looking better than mine! (ha ha).
Susan was so responsive to my needs and was helpful when I needed her design assistance decorating for our company holiday party. She came up with an excellent design scheme, and collaborated with me on the Winter Wonderland theme to come up with a beautiful color scheme and great ideas for food, gift bags and decor. She is professional, timely and provides knowledgable feedback on current design trends and event concepts. I would highly recommend her services!
Signature Design Interiors staged my home in One Loudoun and did an amazing job! They brought in furnishings, art, area rugs, linens, and accessories to highlight my home's best features. The turnaround time between requesting their help and the completed project was just a couple of days. I highly recommend the team at Signature Design Interiors for staging as well as decorating and remodeling. They are top notch!
We hired Emington in 2011 to do several cabinets in our new remodel. He did cabinets in our bathroom, our dining room, our bedroom, our living room, our kitchen and our laundry. We loved all of the cabinets, so we called him back in 2012 to do our walking closet and now we called him back again to redo our pantry and install a few floating book shelves. We were always happy with his work. He is fast, responsive and gets the job done. We would recommend him and hire him again.
The design services provided by Lizzie Moore and the New Vision team were outstanding and professional in every way. Lizzie has spoken with me extensively about different options for my home including paint colors, furniture, layouts, and fabric choices. She even developed multiple floor plans of my entire home and has been very patient as I have made decisions. Lizzie's attention to design details and color coordination are unmatched! She is truly a skilled designer, not to mention is very fun to work with!
Absolutely loved MagnifiqueHomes! I moved to Virginia and needed to downsize quite a bit, moving into a much smaller place. Maud was great at utilizing the small space I had to maximum efficiency, making it feel like a home at the same time. She kept me involved in every step -- making it a truly enjoyable experience. I couldn't be happier with this, my first interior design experience. I would definitely recommend MagnifiqueHomes without hesitation.
I have to say that I used real plaster moldings throughout my house.when I went to my friend house I was pleased with crown molding and some design on her ceiling And that prompt me to look for the contrator (glamour touch home decor llc), despite my architect recommending wood and MDF. It was the best decision I made in whole project. The plaster is gorgeous-and it looks like nothing else.I 'll always be greatful for the job well done.
Highly recommend Nalini. I needed to order furniture for my daughter's room. I told Nalini my budget and my specifications as i wanted something timeless, maintenance-free, sturdy, and comfortable. She came back with thoughtful suggestions, ideas, and options to choose from. I found exactly what I was looking for. Nalini arranged everything from order to delivery, and she even came to check on the items when it was being delivered to make sure everything was accounted for and to my satisfaction. Thanks Nalini, you were easy to work with, I will reco to all my friends!
I contracted Unlimited Resources, Inc. for a designer paint job and the installation of exotic hardwood floors throughout my living room and family room and ceramic flooring in the kitchen. I was hesitant about the paint combination because I was stepping outside of my box but Mr. Litman advised me through the purchases and I was thoroughly pleased with the end result. I picked out a very expensive exotic wood which would have to be ordered and would take weeks to arrive and I was working within a tight timeline to have the work completed. Mr. Litman was able to locate the wood in the metropolitan area and completed the project in an expeditious manner. My neighbors and family have asked to see the finished work and I've received rave reviews! I wouldn't hesitate to use Unlimited Resources, Inc. for future home improvement endeavors.
I am a kitchen designer and I work with Shea Studio Interiors for at least 10 projects a year. I love how June can ask questions and pull information from the client that they didn't even know they knew. Most folks know what they want but don't know how to express it and wouldn't know how in the world they would put it in action. Projects with June end up fantastic and within the budget the client requested. I highly recommend her to my clients.
I first hired Jessica to design a makeover of our guest bathroom that was original with our house built in 1969. It had a blue tub, toilet and sinks, and was just plain outdated. She did a wonderful job and I liked her work so much that I kept working with her on several more projects. The cost of the bathroom was over $10,000, but not by much, and that included what I paid the contractor and other costs not associated with Jessica. Simultaneous to designing the bathroom, I worked with her to totally redecorate an efficiency condo that was out of state. She was able to do this with only the drawings and pictures I provided her. The makeover was unbelievable. I rent the condo out on VRBO and have consistently received 5 star reviews since the makeover which included choosing the paint, artwork, furniture, rugs, ceiling fan, lamps, and light fixtures. From there we moved onto the Master Bedroom of my house and two bedrooms that we converted to guest rooms. Currently, Jessica is designing my home office. Jessica is careful to understand your preferences, but will offer choices that are in style but also coordinate with your taste. She also works with you to incorporate sentimental items that you want to include in your spaces. She is extremely organized and reasonable and she makes her pricing for her design and time clear from the start. She always looks to get the best deals for you on everything she purchases for you. I cannot say enough good things about Jessica. We continue to rely on her to bring our house and decorations up to date and make our home a comfortable and inviting place to be. We continue to have future projects in mind for Jessica as we make our way through just about every room in our house!
Collene was fantastic to work with. I was selling my condo on my own, and Collene took on this staging assignment at the very last minute. She spent a good amount of time with me initially talking through how the rooms would be set up and showed me pictures of other places she had staged. When we received feedback from a few potential buyers that the living space was awkward (which I knew from living there!), Collene made a few switches. She also made herself available to be at our open house. Collene was communicative and professional and so easy to work with.
Outstanding!! I met Collene about a year ago with a project that had a goal without definition or vision. I know myself as a woman with good taste but no idea how to put any fashion or decoration together. I also had no desire to figure it out myself. I am not in my dream home but it does need updating. I asked Collene to help me update my home and but not for too much money. She came in evaluated me, my house and presented a plan for what could be done. For me, her best talent is flexibility in vision. She created an idea for my house that has fit me and my style and our household so well. She is able to adapt along the way and is not so set in her vision that it can't evolve. Because of this quality, I entrust her with my money and my sacred space, my home. Our project is not quite done, but I almost don't want it to end.
