Things to know before you get started.
7 Steps to Choosing Kitchen Tile
  1. 1. Choose the right tile for each purpose

There are tiles for countertops, backsplashes and flooring, but they are all constructed for a specific purpose and should not be used interchangeably.

  2. 2. Determine the material you want

The type of tile material generally determines its use. For instance, vinyl and bamboo tiles are typically used for flooring, whereas glass tiles are best for backsplashes.

  3. 3. Create a budget for your kitchen tile

Tile can be expensive depending upon the type of material and the space it needs to cover, so explore your price options carefully.

  4. 4. Choose your tile with safety in mind

it should not be slippery. Look for tiles that have a raised pattern to ensure more traction.

  5. 5. Express yourself with your backsplash

Backsplashes do not need to withstand a lot of abuse, so you can be more creative. Use this space to add color and personality to your kitchen.

  6. 6. Consider glazed tiles for countertops

In busy households, especially those with kids, glazed tiles are a good choice because they are stain resistant and allow for more color options.

  7. 7. Study the PEI ratings of tile

The PEI rating is a scale that determines a tile’s sturdiness. The scale contains ratings of one to five, with one not allowing any foot traffic and five providing for extra-heavy traffic.
