I reached out to Thumbtack on Saturday due to my tenants reporting that there was a strong gas smell when they were preheating the oven in my rental property. Kheri responded almost immediately and said he would be available to check it out the next day, Sunday. I appreciated that he was so quick to respond. He went to the house, quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the faulty part. His rate was reasonable too. I am very pleased with his service and professionalism, and would hire him again.

Jacob was very communicative and responsive to my request to look at my oven. He was very honest about the fact that it was more cost-effective for me to buy a new oven then it was to try and replace an old part that was no longer manufactured. He let me know the type of materials I would need to purchase an order to replace my oven and hoses. He followed up with me after the appointment to to ask when I would need him to come back and install my new oven. Quality Service. I would use him again.

My oven would not heat up but the stove top still worked. I gave Sonic the model number of my oven and told them that I thought it was the igniter and that I wanted an original part. Faze the technician was on time, polite and professional. After checking out my stove it was determined that is was the igniter and he came with the original part still in it's unopened box. The price was exactly what was quoted, which was very reasonable. I will definitely use Sonic Appliance Services again!

Martin did a really great job. Our double oven went out. We hired him to check the electrical unit to make sure it was working before we purchased a new oven. The electrical unit was fine, but to our pleasant surprise Martin also is able to fix appliances. He checked the oven, and it was just the fuse! He saved us so much time and and money - our oven is working again! He was prompt and courteous. I would recommend him and would use him again. Very fair price as well!

Dan replaced the control panel in my Frigidaire oven. It was easy to schedule with him, he was prompt for the appointment, and he was very polite. He went above and beyond when I asked him to take apart the oven door to help clean hard to reach areas - and he refused to let me pay more for the extra help. I would use him in the future and recommend him to others.

Lassaad did an excellent job of installing a microwave/wall oven combo in my kitchen. This is no easy task for two people, but he single-handedly did a great job! Even though the job entailed more than expected, he did not change his price quote. He even took the time to look at and fix my AC unit and this was not even a part of my original request. Furthermore, he knew that I wanted my appliance installed as soon as possible and he was there early the next day to install it. Thank you so much Lassaad! You do excellent work and I'd recommend you to anyone!

I contacted this technician to repair a broken double wall oven. Kyle was very easy to schedule an appointment and communicated with us until he arrived. His initial thought of the problem was not the final fix action, but stuck with it and continued to troubleshoot until he figured out what the issue was. Price was very reasonable for the effort he had to give for our oven issue.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
