I am very pleased with the results. I remodeled my kitchen. Several things were done - old back splash was removed and new back splash installed, over the stove microwave installed, granite countertop supports installed, painted cabinets and walls, added trim and molding to a patio door and window, etc.

Langley Remodeling did an excellent job replacing my bathroom’s vinyl flooring with ceramic tile. Everything was explained and written out before starting the job. We appreciated that they took pride in their work and wouldn’t do something if it couldn’t be done right. They were very accommodating to my time frame. They were friendly and hardworking. We are very happy with the job. We would recommend Langley Remodeling to anyone looking for remodeling work.

I was referred to Thumbtack by a co-worker after describing I had purchased the tile materials to re-tile a stand-up shower and a shower/tub combo. Matt was one of 5 contractors who responded within hours after my post and I was impressed with his credentials, pictures of jobs completed, and reviews. He met with me within 48, and we realized he had completed the tile floor work in my house for the previous owners nearly 5 years ago! The tile floor was a big selling feature for me back then and I was pleased when Matt could do the work I requested, for a very reasonable price, and he was able to start within a few days. Matt is prompt, meticulous, courteous, and was patient to answer my questions, and to do the work well and not rush to just finish

We highly recommend Robert (RJA Floors) if you have the floor and bathroom renovation projects. Robert is very knowledgeable about the design, materials, planning, and installation of the floor and bathroom work. We particularly appreciate the fact that he discussed and provided us different options of the types of the floor materials we could install in the vanity and closet areas and everything for our master bath. After providing us all possible options, he let us make decisions. It's very helpful for people who might not have a very clear idea of what should be done in what way. He's also very flexible. When we would like to change whatever we had already planned, if the work was not completed yet, Robert was willing to accommodate our needs. We are very pleased with the completed projects - both the floor and the bathroom work is neat and exceeds our expectations. His work is excellent! The quote he provided was reasonable. We will hire him for our future floor and bathroom projects. **Be prepare to add some extra time to the project depending on the scope.

Chris was personable and came to my house promptly to give me an estimate to fix a door with significant dry rot issues. During his visit he explained to me the problems with my existing door in a educational manner so that I could see the problems, too. He quoted an excellent price to replace my patio door (I was panning only to repair the dry rot on the trim). We decided to go ahead with the replacement vs. the repair. The installers had the new door installed in a single afternoon! We are extremely satisfied with the finished product and I would use Window Source again.

Last Spring, Brandon Contractor LLC completed several projects in my home with excellent quality and customer service! I had recently purchased a foreclosure and was looking for a reliable contractor to complete a few projects. Mr. Vega and I met so that I could share my vision for the projects that I wanted completed - a small window cut in the wall above the kitchen sinking looking into the living room, refinishing the front door, backsplash in the kitchen and painting the upstair hallway and stairway. We met to pick out materials and I was allowed to provide my input as well as receive suggestions from Mr. Vega that would improve the overall job. When the work begun, a possible concern was noted by Mr. Vega and his team with plumbing. It was addressed immediately. All of the projects were completed in a timely manner and I am extremely satisfied with the outcome! The team was professional, courteous and the pricing was great! I often receive complements from visitors to my home and I plan to use the company again in the near future to spruce up my patio. I highly recommend Brandon Contractor LLC for any of your home improvement projects!

I had 2 rooms painted, a hallway painted, closet doors replaced, chandelier Replaced, bathroom recaulking, front door frame resealed and repainted. He even had to get creative with replacing the closet doors which he did. I'd definitely hire him again.

I found Randy and his team on Thumbtack earlier this week and exchanged a few messages about his company installing a shower door in my bathroom. Randy was upfront and honest from the beginning so I decided to hire him. He arrived on time, as he began to look at the door I purchased he realized I had the wrong size. Since I didn't have my car that day, he was nice enough to take the glass door back to Home Depot to exchange for the correct size. He went above and beyond, most people would not have done this. Once they began the work, we realized the shower tub floor was installed by the previous contractor incorrectly and wasn't leveled properly which made the job very tough for Randy and his team but they got the job done! I can't thank them enough for the great work today, my wife's and I plan to use them for a few other major projects over the coming weeks. Highly recommend Randy and his team for any of your work!

I would definitely recommend His Grace Plumbing and Drain Clean Services. Gabriel went out of his way to come out on the weekend last minute to install a water heater for us at a very reasonable price. They even picked up the equipment for us from the store and didn’t get upset when we had to wait longer than expected for our water heater. We will for sure use them in the future.

I concur with all the 5 stars ratings this gentleman has received and would recommend him to all my friends and family who need plumbing work done! He is very competent, did an excellent job and went beyond what we discussed and cleaned out the drain that had been giving me problems, without changing the price!!! He's a gem!!!

Ricardo was very responsive and did a great job. He removed a transom window in my kitchen and installed wood and drywall in its place so that I could install a ductless minisplit AC there. He did good work and was responsive to my needs and feedback. I would hire him again for drywall, painting, and carpentry jobs.

Tim and team did a great job changing out my old shower and tub tiles as well as the shower pan and putting in new modern cement pan and lovely wall tiles. Tim is super responsive, kind, and reasonable. He truly cares about delivering quality work. Only left one star off due to a few set backs we had with scheduling. He has a team of people and there was some trouble with scheduling on a few days, setting back my finish date.

Patrick provided and estimate of work and stuck to it. He arrived when he said he would and performed excellent service. We selected a glass tile backsplash for our kitchen which is not that easy to work with. He had the tile up and grouted in two days and it looked fantastic. I will definitely utilize his company again for any tile projects. He was the most reasonably priced company that bid on the work. You cannot go wrong by hiring Patrick!

Yosif combined an existing bathroom and two closets to make a larger, completely remodeled bathroom. This project required closing off an existing door and removing a short wall. He worked with us to come up with three different remodeling options, and after we chose the option we liked best he completely demolished the 1941-era existing bathroom, removed the debris, and completed the installation of the new bathroom, including new flooring, tiled walls, a walk-in shower, a tub, a double vanity, commode, and medicine cabinets. He covered over the unwanted doorway and painted the new bathroom. In some cases, he worked with other technicians when needed. He also arranged for frameless glass doors to be installed as a shower surround. The result is truly stunning! It exceeds our highest expectations. Yosif's tile work is meticulous. He laid the marble floor tile in a beautiful herringbone pattern and created custom-designed niches in the shower and tub areas. Everything, from the lighting to the flooring to the smallest detail, was handled with professionalism and skill. Yosif completed the work to the highest standards, and we are delighted to recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
