Sometimes having work done on your house can be a real hit or miss proposition when it comes to hiring contractors. When we realized we needed a roof, we contacted Jason Culter of Paradigm thru Thumbtack. I'm happy to say this was a hit. Jason was very responsive and everything was done when he said it would be done with no delays or excuses. Unlike some situations we've had, clean up after the job was very complete. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Paradigm again for any roofing, gutter or drywall needs we might have in the future.

We were very pleased with Michael's installation of our kitchen tile backsplash and concrete repairs to the house's foundation. He made sure he was doing things the way we wanted and kept us informed of how he'd go about the repairs. He worked the whole time he was here and tried to save me money by using some of his own materials. He's an honest person and I could tell from our conversations that he's a dedicated family man. Will definitely use him again and for my elderly mother's home, too!

Hands down the best experience I've had with a contractor for gutter cleaning. Tony was able to squeeze me in same day as my request, and Tim went above and beyond cleaning my gutters, fixing popped nails, and making sure everything was in good shape. Great price too.

Mr.Reyes was always at my house when he said he'd be there. He told me due to the 90+ heat it might take them 2 days to do the house. However they took a long break at 12 noon came back and worked on a Saturday until after 6PM to complete the roof. Their clean up job I would rate at a 99%, their is little flake of material that just couldn't be picked up; otherwise their clean up was very good. I was outside working in the yard and one the young guys was down on the ground saw me struggling with a cart and he came running up to me and took it to were I was going to work in the flower beds. All Mr. Reyes workers were very nice and kind to me. Mr. Reyes and his roofing group are great workers.

ALHi renovated my kitchen island and finished my lower level closets. They were professional, completed the work on time, and were able to adjust their workmanship as dictated by the project. I have also hired them to lift my patio concrete.

Alpha did a wonderful job. I had a punch list of many items that needed done to my home after an inspection, because I was selling my home. Everything from drywall, to electrical, to exterior fixes. They were very quick to respond, priced very competitively, and did quick and quality work. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.

We are very particular in who does work for us. Jon McKinney Home Improvement has been out several times to do some home repairs and each time they have exceeded our expectations. Projects include: - Outdoor weather-seal caulking (stopped window leaks) - Roof shingle repair (stopped a bathroom ceiling leak) - Siding repair (cosmetic fix and leak prevention) Not only was Jon professional and courteous, but he genuinely cared about meeting our needs. His prices are extremely competitive, and were lower than other companies we considered. If you need roofing, siding or other home improvement repairs, you can’t go wrong with Jon McKinney Home Improvement. He guarantees satisfaction, and proves it by his quality of work.

After talking with a couple of contractors, I hired Brian to repair the roof over my family room and the ceiling damaged due to roof leakage. I also needed repairs to my balcony and the door into the family room. All of the repairs needed were due to water and wind damage that had accumulated over years. I also chose to have skylights installed since the roof and ceiling were both being repaired. Brian was nothing short of fantastic! He is a perfectionist and his work exceeded even my own very high standards! He is also the most honest contractor I have ever hired. I say this because he stuck to the estimates he quoted even though there was greater damage than anticipated hiding under the balcony carpeting and roof shingles. Brian also worked late into the evening many nights and worked under tarps when it was raining. He also completed some additional small repairs that I had been putting off and charged a very reasonable rate for those repairs. I cannot say enough positive things about Brian. I feel so lucky to have found him and will turn to him first for any future home repairs--construction or otherwise.

This was my first time using Thumbtack for a job. Jeff was simply amazing. He came and inspected my roof, giving me a fair cost to do the job. He then spent almost 2 weeks advocating on my behalf with my insurance company to ensure I got everything I needed to do the job. My insurance company gave us both the run around, but he remained professional and patient (while I was losing my mind). After starting 5 days earlier than expected, he ran into some serious problems with my roof that wasn’t covered under the claim. He took the time every step of the way to explain to me the condition of my roof. He purchased just the right amount of materials and didn’t mark up the price for his profit. He showed up on time for the job, even working the holiday to get the job done. His crew was very hard working as well. My only problem was wishing I knew he was also skilled at other areas so that I could have hired him for all of my jobs. It’s hard to find honest, trustworthy, and competent contractors. Delta construction is all 3. I have them on speed dial for all my future needs.

I own several different properties. With that being said, I've had numerous contractors do some work for me. Quality-Pro has been far and away the best service providers I've dealt with. Very personable, extremely punctual, the estimates were more accurate than most, and as far as the work, Quality-Pro did exactly what I asked of them. I even changed my mind on one project and they had no problem what so ever redoing the job and getting it done to my standards. I've used Quality-Pro on several occasions at my other properties and they are by far the best contracting company I've came across. Not to mention the customer service is off the charts! HIGHLY recommend Quality-Pro. I've even recommended them to close friends and family!

I've used Demi Remodeling a few times. At our first house they built a deck and completely remodeled a kitchen for us, opening up the kitchen to the living room, and the house to the yard. It was a total transformation that made the house feel more inviting. It was so nice, I didn't want to leave our first house and I wish I still had that kitchen and the big door to the backyard! The people who bought our first house mentioned the beautiful kitchen and new layout as the reason they picked our house. At our new house, Demi Remodeling has done our roof, rebuilt a wall that had been water damaged, fix some foundation concerns, and remodeled the 30 year old bathroom into an oasis complete with heated tile floors and a tile surround. We've recommended them to friends and family, and everyone who has used them has been just as thrilled as we are. My mom had them take her new house down to the studs and rebuild almost every room. She is thrilled with her new kitchen, bigger bathroom, finished basement, new siding, and hardwood floors throughout. (They made her year when they went out of their way to match her new flooring to the original flooring in her kitchen.) We are planning on using Demi Remodeling several more times, as my wishlist keeps getting longer: a deck and garage outside, an extra bathroom and remodeled kitchen inside, just to name a few! They are professional, friendly, and fair in their pricing. I absolutely recommend them for any job, inside or out.

Good dude. Knows his shit and does a good job. Affordable because you're skipping the contractor middleman who would take a cut to have the same guy do the work.

From the first contact with Justin about having my roof redone, Justin was there every step, helped with the ins. questions. and anything I had a question about, Did an OUTSTANDING job with tearing off all old shingles and putting all new ones down, and replaced all gutters and downspouts. Best company I have done business with. Will be using them again real soon. A+ company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
