James did it ALL right. Went to the attic first to look for the leak and brought along a helper. He explained to me the things the "first attempt" roofer missed or made no attempt to correct. Then he did the repair on the spot the same day I first called him, and gave me a signed receipt and warranty, something the other guy did not do. The repair was finished off with fresh paint and was well worth the money. This is how I should have approached this rather urgent roof leak to start with as the bigger companies all wanted me to wait weeks just for an estimate.

She has worked for me on 2 projects: Project 1) interior painting of 1,100 sq ft house as a surprise for my mother •Planning: met to plan project, kept detailed notes, selected paint colors based on planned decor, correctly estimated volume of paint required with no waste, provided recommendations, provided a fair cost estimate and stuck to it and coordinated with main contractor •Preparation: purchased paint and supplies, utilized additional supplies of her own, detailed surface preparation including washing, spackling, sanding, odor coverage, stain coverage, fixture removal, surface protection, woodwork preparation, and requested I walk through to approve preparation stage •Painting: hired and properly trained an assistant, excellent brush application, excellent use of spray painter, requested I walk through and approve job, openly welcomed and completed any changes, clean-up was perfection and main contractor was extremely please with her timeliness and perfection in her work •Communication: professional communications , timely contacts, asked for clarification, requested I walk- throughs with genuine desire for feedback, always displayed an upbeat and positive attitude, and contractor appreciated the ease of her project communication •Overall: Elisha takes a personal pride in her work. Her understanding of planning and prep work are the key to her excellent final product. I highly recommend her. Project 2) special project interior cleaning and organization of my 2,200 sq ft Home •Communication: Elisha’s communication is excellent and includes all the positive aspects described in the above project. •Cleaning: organized, fast, detailed, perfection. Excellent at organization and decluttering. Mindful of antiques and heirlooms. Superb polishing of many floor types. Excellent decor eye making wonderful recommendations. Accommodates my health in which I can not be exposed to toxic chemicals or smells. Overall: Elisha is a joy to have in my home. Her pride and perfection elevate her work. Her appreciation of the uniqueness and beauty of my home shows in her work. Many times we have stood back before she leaves and said this place needs to be in a magazine. Handyman Pros from what I know has just been introduced to the Somerset area. Their lead technician/handyman Don is great. He obviously has the experience to be customer oriented and our new laminate floors, tile, trim, and painting looks great

Painted a child's bedroom. The job went really well. The job was done professionally and in a timely manner. She moved all the furniture herself, covered it, and kept hardwood floors covered as well. Could not have asked for a better paint job!! She will paint for me again!!

Instead of painting our exterior, we used the service for demolition and clean up. Efficient and good cost.

We hired Karen to paint our kitchen and she did an excellent job at a fair price! She paid extra attention to detail in painting and made sure to thoroughly clean up everything once she was finished. She was a very nice person and was prompt with her communications. I felt very comfortable having her in my home while I was there with my children. I would recommend Karen if you are looking for a painter.

Excellent choice for your painting needs. On-Point sent a team on time the day I asked them to start (day after quote). VERY thorough and professional. I couldn’t count the imperfections the team identified on the existing walls and mudded over (patched) and sanded to ensure a smooth clean finish. Best of all??? On-Point was very trust worthy and VERY affordable!! I didn’t blink when I had to leave my home to them for several hours. I didn’t have to check on them once as I was given daily updates on status. 3 days of serious attention to our new home, On-Point was just that. I seriously recommend On-Point Painting.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
