It is very rare to meet a contractor that takes such pride in his work and treats his customers' time and resources with great respect. Gianni quoted a price for some roofing/gutter work at one of my rental properties. I agreed to the price he quoted but after making the repair he lowered the final bill because it took less time than he anticipated. How many contractors would do that? The work was high quality and he was very responsive to my calls and text messages. I highly recommend Gianni for any project big or small.

I needed a complete replacement on my asphalt roof. I found Daniel on Thumbtack and he provided a very competitive quote. RYW installed the roof in a very timely and professional way. I would use them again and I would recommend them to family and friends.

He is the only roofing contractor who took the time to thoroughly inspect the drainage problems I was experiencing with my flat roof which was causing leaks inside my home. He explained his solution to correct the problem as well as suggest material to replace the existing flat roof. His workers were professional, worked all day, were very polite and cleaned up the work area during the construction process. When a sudden rain storm struck just as they were repairing the roof, he and his entire crew immediately climbed on the roof to spread coverings to protect my property from any damage from the rain storm, with each one getting soaking wet in the process. I would consider hiring Mac Bros Co. again if I have any other jobs I believe they could handle.

I highly recommend Jason Wakefield and Platinum Roofing for any of your roofing/gables/siding and even inside work needs. I was using a large company and was becoming disenchanted with their service and especially the impersonal nature of sending a new person every time. I went online and due to information that I read about Platinum Roofing, I called them for a quote. I instantly liked Jason - great guy! He was very nice, very personable and very responsive to what I wanted worked on at my house. I called two of the people that had previously hired him for their home/apartment needs and they gave him the thumbs up. He gave us a good rate and kept in touch with us as to the start date and details on what was going to be fixed. He and his crew were very considerate, always making sure the dust and dirt was kept to a minimum and every thing was cleaned up at the end of the day. I had some inside wall water damage and he also fixed this after finishing with my outside work. I will absolutely use his company again for any work that needs to be done. We hired Rose Construction for roofing, hardie board siding and gutter work on our house after a tornado. They took time to carefully inspect the roof, siding and other exterior parts of the house and didn't just do a walk around and leave like some of the other companies I met with. They weren't the least expensive, but we felt most comfortable with them. The crew was over early in the morning the following Monday and completed the job in two and a half days. All the debris from the work was completely cleaned up and they even put down seed and straw where the grass was trampled. Our project manager came back out a few days later to do an inspection to make sure we were happy with the work and collect the final payment. We would hire again.

My Wife and I were in the process of getting our current home in Montz, La ready for sale in the local real estate market. The house had several items that needed to be addressed with repairs ranging from a leaky roof in the covered porch, laminate floor repairs, roof inspection, glass window replacement, porch door replacement, and new carpeting replacement. Gasper Pumila managed to handle these repairs either himself or arrange to have other co contractors come in and repair or replace. We are very satisfied with Mr. Pumila's service and would recommend him to other homeowners. David & Tammy Guzzardi Montz, Louisiana

This company defines professionalism and quality. Jonathan and his team quoted me a more than fair price, worked around my schedule to start the project, were on time, and finished the job(s) in a much quicker time than I had expected. I had several different things that I needed repaired, and they were able to complete them all with the utmost in quality work. Their electrician fixed something that TWO other electricians couldn't figure out! They also fixed a few things that were not in the original quote, without charge! Everything Under One Roofing, truly went above and beyond to complete the job. For any and all future projects, I would not even consider hiring anyone else. Thanks Jonathan!

Great service. The roof system (renailing the deck, filling in any gaps, the heavy rubber membrane and the extra care to be sure that each shingle was not only nailed in the correct place but each shingle had the proper # of nails) really makes for a better than average roof. Great to know that if we do lose shingles in a storm that the roof still shouldn't leak! The guys were professional, cleaned up like crazy, and did what they said. We've had it for a couple of years now and absolutely no leaks. Liked it and the service so well that we're looking at them doing the same roof system on a vacation home (on our nickel since the programs don't help with 2nd homes) down on the water in Barataria before the next hurricane season.

Barry and the roofing team were great! He gave us a prompt estimate and worked with our needs with no pretense or sales bs. The job was started and finished in one day and Barry communicated quickly from the first call to the last. We will definitely hire him again, hopefully soon for some other exterior work that needs done. We highly recommend Stooges Painting and Reno. if you're looking for a quality contractor.

Joe and 2 other contractors came out and gave me a budget estimate on the replacement and repairs to the roof on my mothers house. Once I selected Joe, he came back out and gave me a final price because I had added additional work. He took photos and kept me informed on everything. His work was very professional. In fact, he showed me things that needed to be done, that I didn't see that had to be fixed. He did a great job and I highly recommend him to anyone.

Patrick was so wonderful to work with! He called immediately to discuss my roofing needs and set up an appointment for the next day. The next morning he called to see if he could come early, so he could beat the rain and get my leak repaired for me before it stormed. He was so friendly, knowledgeable and professionaly. I highly recommend Patrick and will definitely be calling him in the future with any and all roofing needs. He was great!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
