Eric installed a new kitchen faucet for us and repaired the faucet on our tub. He also gave us advice on renovating our bathroom and diagnosed a leak we had in our basement. He was professional, polite, and worked quickly and proficiently. We will definately hire Eric again.

Steve hung 4 interior doors, built us french doors for our closet, re-caulked our tub, and put a cat door into a cabinet. He was a very nice guy, explained each step of the project carefully when he encountered unexpected problems, and worked hard for the entire time he was at our home. The tub looked great after re-caulking. The TV was hung very professionally and he even offered to hide the cords in he wall (unfortunately we ran out of time to complete this). Uneven walls in our house caused problems hanging the doors--which led to the total project taking much more time than estimated and left the door projects not completely finished. Despite the problems, Steve stayed late to get the doors to a point where we could buy parts and finish the job ourselves. Traffic problems also led to slow starts on several days and we ending up having two initial visits before any work was started. A few small tasks included in his quote were not able to be finished after 4 visits. However the quality of the work he did finish was good.

Edilson installed soundproofing and porcelain tile in the kitchen and entry hall. He also removed an older front door and replaced with a sturdy metal front door and storm door. He replaced some older discolored ceiling tiles in the kitchen and replaced tattered screens in several window frames. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was done with careful attention to detail. He was punctual in arriving and made sure all of the work was completed to perfection and with my approvals. He asked along the way to be sure things were going as I anticipated. He willingly took on additional work that came up during our project. Edilson cleaned up the area and put everything back in its place when finished. I would say he is the best at what he does. He seems able to handle any job or requirement and makes sure the work meets all expectations. I am totally satisfied and others who have seen the results are impressed. I would request his services again if/when needed.

We needed to have our bathroom floor repaired due to a leaky toilet and because Bob was so easy to work with and reasonable, we wound up getting floor, toilet , vanity & window replaced plus walls, woodwork& ceiling painted. He does such quality work. He repaired the subfloor, installed tile, took extra precautions with toilet to prevent the seal from breaking down again. He installed a new window, insulated the frame, moved outlet & lighting fixture. He helped us research ways to refinish the tub. The tiling job looks amazing. His attention to detail is superb. We couldn't be happier with the work he did & whole heartedly recommend him.

I needed a bit of drywall replaced above one of my tub surrounds. Mike understood what I needed and quoted very reasonably. When he called me to tell me he had an opening next day I took him up on it. Although he actually ran late, he made sure to call me before his expected arrival time so I was never left wondering. He arrived after his brief delay (less than 1 hour) went over what I needed and expected again and promptly went to work. He kept me appraised throughout the day and finished this job within the same day right around 5. The quality of his work is excellent. I actually feel I held him back from his finishing skills as my wife and I intend to finish off some other work including painting which allowed me to free him up a bit earlier. Thanks Mike for all you did and I look forward to passing more work your way!

Troy was great. We got 3 bids. One was really cheap, one was crazy expensive, Troy was a bit more than the lowest bid but had great reviews on Thumbtack and was great when we met in person. Our bathroom was pretty much a total gut job. We had put a Bathfitter over the old tub and there were layers of old flooring. During the demo, Troy found issues with the framing in one of the walls, the electrical and plumbing were not up to code, among other issues. He got everything fixed and was very clear about any additional costs to fix. He was very responsive and was very flexible. Troy even bought the tile and billed me rather than having me go buyt it and have to return unused tile. With any job, there were some unanticipated things and Troy was very good at adapting and sticking to the schedule, especially during the busy holiday season. He cleaned up and did everything to minimize disruption. The bathroom was a small, 5x7 space and it was in the middle of our house, so there wasn't a lot of room to work but he and team made it work. While he was there, we accidentally broke a cabinet door in our kitchen - Troy and his helper happened to see what happened and actually fixed it for us. We still have to add our light fixture and get final inspection but we're very happy with how our bathroom came out. We'd recommend Troy to anyone (in fact I'm giving my sister his number since she needs a new kitchen floor)!!

Roberto performed EXCELLENT work installing a new shower unit to replace my old tub/shower. His attention to detail is unmatched and can adjust to any structural problem he may encounter. His ability to match my replacement wall tiles to the existing tiles was undetectable. Also, replacing my linoleum with a new tile floor was done with equal professionalism.

I had a major plumbing problem and received a very high repair cost from a few plumbing companies. After unsuccessful further search, a relative recommended Avea Group. That was my last hope because I definitely could not afford to spend that much. What a nice guy showed up! His personality and confidence calmed me down instantly, everything was fixed in 2 days vs a week+ that was quoted by other plumbers... And honest reasonable cost was the biggest surprise! Thank you Azat!!! You are a true professional!

Adonias was very easy to work with. He is friendly, creative, and flexible. He has a very busy company, so sometimes my projects took longer than expected, but he is good about communicating. Eagle7 remodeled two bathrooms for me (I will upload pictures after I finish cleaning and organizing them). They took out two fiberglass shower/tub units, built a new tub with tile surround and a tiled walk-in shower with glass door. They replaced sinks and countertops, replaced flooring (tile in one, vinyl plank in the other), repaired some plumbing, replaced fan/light combos, and built out walls where needed. In addition, Adonias and his crew helped with a few extra requests as they came up, without complaint. We were updating most of our house this month, so there were many contractors in and out, a dog, kids, and general chaos. The crew took it all in stride, they were patient and worked around our schedule. Prices were very reasonable, and they worked with me to think through what could be salvaged/reused to minimize costs. Adonias also sourced materials as needed, not overbuying or upcharging. Highly recommend Eagle7.

Richard was our savior when we were in a time-crunch to complete several tasks before moving into our new house. Even with a short timeline, he managed to get it done. Hardwood and tile flooring installation in the kitchen and bathroom, interior and exterior lighting installation, plumbing and electrical work, new hardware, and a beautiful backsplash. Richard did great work for a reasonable price. He was personable, skilled and knowledgeable. We definitely look forward to working with him again.

Steve does excellent work. I recommend him 100% He tiled our basement bathroom floor, finished the walls, made his own wood trim to edge the wall where it met the tub tiles, painted the walls and wood work, moved the washer and dryer himself, worked outside cutting the tile, even though it was cold, and put everything back. He was efficient, clean, organized, punctual and very reasonable, providing a detailed bill of time, labor, and parts. No surprises. He was very independent and made no demands on us, even turning down coffee! We left him alone in the house, a couple of times, feeling complete trust in him. The job was unexpectedly difficult; the concrete was uneven, there was an unknown pipe jutting out into the floor. He was thorough, he found and filled in a leak around the tub; he was ingenious, he modified tile around the pipe and made a perfect round hole for the toilet for the plumbers, and he patched holes in the walls. In addition, he was very considerate, picked up the tile himself, (after a wrong order was delivered) later volunteered to pick up the vanity, and ran through the steps the plumber was going to take to complete the bathroom renovation, with a new sink and toilet. He came back to do a little something where the floor met the carpet in the hallway, no problem. He wanted us to be perfectly satisfied. All in all it was a personally pleasant and very professional experience working with him. Based on what he did for us, I would trust him to do any kind of household renovation he says he can do. I know he does kitchens, decks, and additions too because he came recommended by a neighbor. We were perfectly satisfied.

Hot Tub Guy cleared a 4 inch drain for us. He quoted us the lowest price out of four plumbers we contacted. He was on time and got the job done fast. He was nice and straight-forward. Left some dribbles and a slight mess that was easy for us to clean up. Would recommend for the cost savings.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

    • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
    • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
    • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
    • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
    • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

    • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
    • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
      • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
    • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
    • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
    • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
