There’s nothing sexy about a blocked sewer, but when you need it fixed, Danny from Elite Drains is the guy you want to call. He came out to my house behind 2 different drain companies that couldn’t figure the problem out; had it diagnosed and repaired in a few hours. Been trouble free ever since. I appreciated his service so much that that I decided to write a review! I highly recommend Elite Drains.

Needed to cut out bottom of kitchen cabinets, a portion of wall between kitchen & bath, and all subfloor under to expose main sewer clean-out to snake clogged drain. I do not remember the gentleman's name but he was the only one of several that responded that said he was willing and able to help! He told me he could be there and showed up within an hour! Tackled a very difficult situation with my less than optimal tools and stayed till it was exposed for drain cleaners. Thanks again and sorry for the delay in review! Very happy!

There is nothing that I can say that could adequately say how amazing an experience this was. From the minute Steve answered with a quote right up til today when he came, he never tried to embellish or find things wrong that weren’t. What was supposed to be a simple leak, which turned into a split drain and sewer pipe, he just kept going until the entire thing was fixed and fixed correctly!! Even having to go into the basement and fix/replace the pipe that carried the water to the sewer, he just kept going right along as if it was just a routine thing. I can’t say thank you enough to him for the hard and good work that he did and I definitely will be using you in the future for other things no matter how big or small!!! Thank you so much!!!

This was my first time using Thumbtack, which I've been familiar with for a while, and I could not be happier. Real was very responsive, up front about his quote both initially and after the quote increased because of type of water heater I needed, and he communicated as he said he would at every step of the process. His pricing was very reasonable especially since I'd been quote $2,000+ by every other provider with whom I'd spoken. He presented himself as the professional plumber he proved to be in his communication, sourcing of material, treatment/cleaning of my home, and disposal of the materials. The day he did the job was the same day that a DIYer in Taunton caused her home to blow up into an inferno after trying to fix her own water heater. We discussed the irony which made me all the more happy to pay Real for the great job he did. I highly recommend him and have already spoken with him about doing some other work.

After working with a multitude of contractors in all the trades, I can honestly say it was a stroke of luck that I came across Azat. Not only is he the consummate professional and expert in plumbing/gas, he is one of the hardest workers I've seen in a long time. He got my water heater connected, rerouted piping (gas and water), gave me many cost saving tips and his pricing was fair and reasonable. I HIGHLY recommend Azat for all your plumbing needs.

Called Quality when our basement backed up with sewage. He answered right away and showed up earlier than expected. He cleared our main line sewer of roots and while he was at the house also fixed our tub drain that was draining very slow. Can't thank Russ at quality sewer and drain cleaning enough, highly recommend!! He is the best...nothing like friendly local services!!

I hired Ron to convert an old oil-based heating system to a tankless gas-based hot water/heating system. I just can say the job was done to perfection !!! He did the job in 2-1/2 days, including the removal of the old boiler, water tank and oil tanks. The piping routes were very well laid-out to minimize changes in the old system. He obtained all necessary permits from City Hall, got clearance from the city inspector, gave me a rebate form for the heater had a very reasonable price for the job.

My main sewer line was clogged. My search for a plumber led me to Mike and Bobby. They came out as promised and had it FLOWING in no time. They took the time to explain the process both on the phone and in person. Rates are reasonable and they are very knowledgeable. They suggested some preventative treatment i can do myself. I highly recommend these guys. Thank you:)

This was the best experience I could have asked for with my project! I am flipping a house and had planned on doing as much of the plumbing/radiators as I could. It turned out that I needed a lot more work than expected and Chris gave me exceptional service at an affordable price. We ended up installing a Navien Combi for use with propane. They installed about 100 feet of baseboard heater, with 1 kick space heater under the sink, as well as all the propane lines for the cooking range, and combi. They also did all the rest of the plumbing work inside the house on the kitchen/laundry and bath. The work looks great, and was done very fast. Chris, Dan & Travis were very nice guys to have working in the home, and Eliza was a pleasure to deal with on the phone. They paid attention to detail and made sure that the work was done right, but also looked good. Chris even went out of his way to bring a saw and finish nail gun for me to use after giving me his opinion of how he thought I should trim up a copper sink I installed. The system was absolutely the right choice for this house and I am certain that it is going to be a huge selling feature for me when I list it on the market. I am looking forward to working with these guys on my home boiler replacement as well as for my next flip.

Ed Martin installed new plumbing for our bathroom remodel as well as the plumbing and a gas line for our new upstairs laundry room. We have had numerous bad experiences with plumbers and have finally found a reliable and trustworthy professional who we will be our 'go-to guy' for future projects. Everything from start to finish was great. He always shows up on time as agreed... his work is of the best quality... his pricing is fair... and he's a really nice guy to work with. He also has all the right connections for HVAC and other professionals. Look no further, this is the guy to call!

We were in a jam when our hot water heater broke. We were given the name of CRoy Plumbing and Heating. He did an exceptional job. He was on time, friendly and the best part was he did beautiful work. When he left not only was there a shinny new water heater but the area was left spotless. (A lot cleaner than when he got there) You could tell Chris takes pride in his work which is rare these days. As you can probably guess we had him come back and do some other work for us. We had him replace the bathroom sinks and faucets. And when my wife tried to to change the handle on the toilett and cracked the bowl he came straight over and had a new toilett put in before I got home from work. He saved my wife's butt. I would highly recommend CRoy Plumbing and Heating.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

      Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

      • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
      • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
      • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
      • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
      • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
