Anita is awesome along with her music staff. They are exceptional musicians, all kind, patient and very knowledgeable in their field of music expertise. I would not hesitate to recommend them for lessons in the music field of your choice. My daughter is taking drum lessons with Dylan, who is in a band and working on his masters in music, so these teachers are very experienced people. She enjoys his lessons and learns a lot each and every time. She comes out with a smile after each lesson because she gets better and better each time.(show more)
Josh has been a really great teacher who caters to the specific needs of his students. He's really passionate about the drums and it shows in his lessons. After figuring out exactly what I wanted to accomplish as a drummer, he has helped me achieve these goals. He's very knowledgable on time signatures, rudiments, grooves and licks. He's always punctual for our lessons and always has a positive attitude. I would definitely recommend him to any student out there looking to take up drum lessons.(show more)
We were lucky enough to be introduced to Justin for weekly lessons for my 10 year old, and he is thrilled each week when Justin arrives. ( ALWAYS punctually, I might add!)My son is enthusiastic about his lessons, and he's progressed beautifully. Equally important, his love for music has been enriched by working with Justin. If you're looking for an engaging, responsible and all around amazing guy for drum lessons, Justin is your man. I wholeheartedly endorse him, and am delighted to have been introduced to him.(show more)

Steve has been great over the last 4 and half years with my son and his drum lessons. They have a great relationship and respect for each other. Steve arranged his first live show just under 2 years ago and that has been the spark that has really made a big difference in my son confidence. I'm a parent so I don't take lessons but I can vouch Steve is a great resource for anyone serious about drums.(show more)
I teach drum lessons at my personal studio in Brighton, MA, using all of my professional equipment, which includes two drum sets, percussion and a PA system to play along with your favorite tracks. As an educator, I have been teaching drums, percussion and music theory for about 10 years to a very large number of students (all ages, ranging from 4 to 65 years old) in Massachusetts and Italy, including all levels, from beginner to advanced. I taught at several private music schools as well as privately at my personal studios. While teaching drums, I encourage passion for music and introduce many topics related to different musical genres, techniques, learning or improving reading, music theory, improvisation and creativity development, and musical concepts. I also enjoy sharing my experiences as a professional musician. Through my experience, I created a method based on developing the natural skills of the student. Classes are focused on specific goals and building a personal program for each student based on his or her capabilities, environment and commitment. One of the most important objectives is to achieve all of this in a way that both the student and instructor can enjoy and have fun during the process. Bio I was born in Italy and started my musical studies on drums at the age of 6 years old. I graduated from both Berklee College of Music in Boston as a recipient of several scholarships based on merit and the Italian conservatory of music, N. Piccinni in Bari, studying performance on drums, percussion instruments, composition and piano. I am very active both as a performer and an educator. I have an extensive international performance experience in many styles of music, ranging from pop, jazz and world music to classical and symphonic music, from orchestras to small ensembles and solo performances. Some of the venues I performed at are the following: Newport Jazz Festival (RI, USA), Panama Jazz Festival (Panama City, Panama), "Les journee de la percussion" at Conservatoire Superieur de Paris (France), Berklee Performance Center (MA, USA), Festival Duni (Matera, Italy), Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Northeastern University (Boston, MA), among many others. TV appearances and radio programs include Spanish TVE LA2, "Entre Dos Aguas," a documentary produced by seven-time Latin Grammy Award winner, Javier Limon; "Boston Strong" video campaign on NECN, Fox 25 (USA); "The New Edge" radio program on WMBR 88.1 FM Cambridge public radio (USA), as well as several appearances on different Italian TV channels. I recorded several albums, covering a wide diversity of music genres, ranging from jazz to pop, rock and world music, both as a leader and a sideman. Please visit my website for more information. Some of the awards I received include Berklee International Grant, outstanding scholarships, Dean's list and the "James David Harber Award" for major contribution to the Performance Division and Percussion Department at Berklee College of music; "Movin' Up" Young Italian Artists and Umbria Jazz (Italy).(show more)
Rick is a drum instructor, and I've been taking weekly, hour-long lessons with him for 6 months. After trying out a few instructors in Boston who had no methodology, no go-to books, no handouts, and generally no system or materials for teaching, I found Rick via much googling. Rick is a Berklee trained, practicing musician & drum instructor. His facilities are great: a treated room with 2 side-by-side kits, 2 practice pads, metronomes, etc. Rick has an endless supply of ideas, handouts, and also, a great book (that he authored) that's kept me busy for longer than any other books I've worked with (this is a good thing). He teaches in local schools, as well as private lessons, and I'm glad to have found an instructor that's thinking about drumming & instruction at the professional level he's engaged in. I enjoy Rick on a personal level (I'm near him in age), but would consider him a good role model for kids, showing patience & flexibility in his approach, as well as espousing a strong work ethic.(show more)

My almost 25 year old has a life long love of music due in part to his time at JD Drums. And I'm excited that my other boys will have that too.(show more)
My son has taken drum lessons from Brian for several years now and really enjoys their weekly sessions. In addition to excellent technical teaching, my son enjoys Brian's sense of humor and that they work on a variety of music types. Brian is always accommodating about scheduling conflicts for which I have been grateful. All-in-all, Brian is a wonderful music instructor and a pleasure to work with.(show more)
Jay Breen is an excellent drum teacher, musician, and educator. I took drum lessons with Jay on and off from the age of nine to eighteen. Jay introduced me to many great recording artists, and to many styles of music. He also taught to transcribe drum beats, play drum rudiments, and read music. If I wanted to learn a particular piece of music all I would have to do is bring in a recording, and he would write out the part so I could learn it. Jay was always open to my musical preference, and he encouraged my personal musical development. My lessons with Jay were fun and productive. Jay's abilities as a seasoned musician, capable of playing many instruments, made lessons versatile and exciting. He made preparing for our annual recitals fun and challenging. The recitals taught me how to perform comfortably in front of live audiences. Jay helped me at a young age to develop a skill for listening to drum sounds on recordings. I have a lot of respect for Jay on a professional and personal level. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a drum instructor or for private lessons.(show more)

In 2007, multi-instrumentalist Dan Fox founded the Morningside Music Studio in Arlington's Morningside neighborhood. His vision was to have a laid back and supportive environment he and his wife, Jennifer Elowsky-Fox could teach private lessons and jazz ensembles. It has proved a good idea as groups and lesson times have started to fill with musicians of all levels eager to play and improve. Morningside offers weekly ongoing jazz ensembles. You can join one anytime and continue as long as you like. Work on improvisation techniques as well as building a repertoire of tunes. Topics include playing modal jazz, blues, standards, scales for improvisation, how to build a solo, phrasing, pacing, dynamics, and a lot more. Instruments accepted are piano, bass, guitar, drums, vocalists, and horn players. Players should either have some knowledge of harmony or be somewhat new to jazz but have some proficiency on their instruments. The idea will be to group people together who are at similar levels. Steinway grand piano, amps, and drums are available. Each group will be limited to four players. Morningside groups play concerts every few months. Previous venues include The Lily Pad, Ryles Jazz Club, The Chit Chat Lounge, Somerville Cable Access TV, and various coffeehouses. Fee is $25/class. In the short time since I've started, not only have I built substantially on my repertoire, but learned useful concepts for soloing and accompaniment.
