  • I am a licensed, professional, and highly qualified teacher in Massachusetts who has over 12 years in teaching mathematics, from the middle school through the high school level. I teach numeracy, problem solving, mathematical literacy, arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra 2 and statistics (including the AP level). I am available to tutor mathematics for test prep (unit tests, midterms, finals, MCAS, PARCC, SAT, SAT subject tests, ACT, and AP exams), summer tutoring, vacation tutoring, ongoing tutoring, one-time tutoring, one-on-one tutoring, small-group tutoring and other options. I can provide remedial work to fill in learning gaps, homework help or reteaching to aid in currently covered topics, or advance work for students who are bored in their current classes. My tutoring style is very language based and focuses on how, when and why mathematics is needed outside of the classroom. Students will learn not only to read mathematics and understand mathematical writing but also coherently write about the mathematical problems that they are solving. This is combined with the element that is most important for students who are developing an understanding and proficiency in solving problems: practice. Students will learn what alludes most struggling mathematics students: how do you study for a math test? Finally, it is my ultimate goal to inspire my students to develop a passion and love for learning mathematics, so that they have the skills and desire necessary to become independent learners of mathematics who have no need for me. I also teach beginner piano lessons to students who are looking to learn to play the piano from a classical method of teaching.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Brent Bedford Piano Studio

(8 reviews)

What do you love about your job?

Music is very social. Schumann, for example, was very introverted in public appearances, yet musically bore forth some very confronting music. Pushing oneself at the keyboard in various ways ultimately involves a developed sense of drama, almost acting, but a specific type--acting, not acrobats!

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

Thumbtack allowed me the freedom to grow my own unique business platform. In addition to their convenient service, they have been very interactive and willing to improve and explore new potentials. I have tried other marketing agencies as well. Some of them extract for high overheads and profit at the expense of the teacher. Thumbtack does not interfere with the income of the professional, and the price paid is reasonable. The feedback and market interaction has helped me plan my business farther and farther into the future.

I really go after the interests of my students so they have fun learning. Who doesnt want to learn how to play their favorite song from the radio or favorite movie? You will find your self more focused on learning if something that interests you is incorporated in the lessons. Seeing the neurons connect and seeing the student truly understand a concept. Helping mynstudent discover and understand is the best feeling.
