I had the distinct pleasure and fortune to connect with Sabrina and have her do the copy editing of my first book, ‘Chronicles: The Journey of a Legal American Immigrant’ and she simply blew me away. Her professionalism, response time and execution was second to none. She delivered the edits before the due date and her presentation was extraordinary. She made key edits that brought life to my story and made the words jump out of the pages. Sabrina was very assessable and even went as far as helping edit my bio at the back of my book which was not in the scope of our contract. This spoke volumes to me as it proved it was not just a job to her but her passion. You will not be disappointed if you solicit Sabrina’s editing services. She will be the first person I call on my next project for sure!

Mr. Kpalukwu was very professional in preparing and editing resume. He answered all questions and gave enough time to review his work. He made sure I liked what he had done before he accepted any money from me. I was not expecting that and surprised! He went beyond my expectations. I will definitely recommend Mr. Kpalukwu to anyone who wants his professional support delivery.

I had the opportunity of working with Kevin. I have found his reviews and remarks to be thought provoking. Often as we write, we do not place ourselves in the shoes of the readers. Kevin considers the tone and platform of the writer as well as the reader and makes his recommendations on how the writer can improve their work. I would call him the antibiotic of editing. He works his way through the literature and diagnose those issues and prescribe a remedy to correct the issues. I would highly recommend him. Thanks Dr. Raymond Holmes, GCDF

So far, Sharon has been great. She is quite responsive, easy to work with, and her skills are exactly what I'm looking for in editing my manuscript. The fact that she is familiar with my genre and is flexible to work with as well, has put me at ease. I look forward to seeing her complete work and as of now, I can say that I hope to work with her on other work as well. Will update upon completion!

UNBELIEVABLE! This is the only way to describe the professionalism, passion, detail orientation, skill and pride that Dr. Casandra Levine shows in everything she does. As a small business owner it is difficult to find dedicated professionals who would invest the quality of time, focus and attention to detail to your work the way you would, despite the cost. As a doctoral student, she has worked with reviewing and Editing papers for both me and my cohort, helping our papers shine with the polished look of an accomplished academic scholar. She has not only edited for content, but has been instrumental in keeping my work in line with the latest editions of APA style which is required by my professors. If you are like me, while in the process of studying and working, there is little time to totally commit to the details of style manuals and sometimes inadvertently miss a few grammatical nuances. Having Dr. Levine as my go to editor and second pair of eyes, have given me the peace of mind necessary to focus on the content of my research, my papers and official correspondences. Her technical writing skills, multilevel ability to move between academic, federal, and business writing and editing is hard to beat. My humble thanks Dr. Levine, and I look forward to having you continue to allow me to shine. Regards, Denise Rosier

I asked Mrs. Taylor to help edit and prefect my resume. I was qualified but couldn't get a first interview. After taking her tips and a final edit I applied again for the same job and I got it! Not only did she fix my resume but she gave me guidelines which I can use the next time I build my resume.

I am an experienced editor and proofreader. I have extensive experience in editing technical and scientific material and can edit both online and in hard copy.

        About

I am an experienced and versatile copy editor of business, scientific, and technical content. I established Van Beuren Publication Services in 2001 and through it provide redaction (all levels of complexity, digital and hard copy, graphics and text) and proofreading of professional books, peer-reviewed journal articles and dissertations as well as resumes and corporate marketing materials, ranging from brochures to email campaign content. My clients have included the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, The Geological Society of America, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Fisheries Society, Halliburton, George Mason University (contracted by a faculty to refine papers for Elsevier and Springer-Verlag journals), and CampusWorks Inc., a higher-education business-services company. I am very well-versed in the Chicago Manual of Style but also am familiar with other formal styles (e.g., MLA, APA and AP) and with following house (internal) styles.

        About

My writing and editing is quality, a result of the training I received as a metropolitan newspaper reporter for more than six years. At the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, I worked hard to meet the paper's standards of excellence in reporting, writing and editing. Few writers in today's social media world have that background. I have been reporting, writing and editing for more than 17 years. I love to write about a variety of topics. A look at my work experience proves that point: smalltown city beat reporter; general assignment reporter for a metropolitan newspaper; writer for a healthcare association; and editor and writer for the federal government's Cold War cleanup.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
