The attendant got off to a late start, but once everything was up and running my party was a hit with the photo booth. Great job overall and I am most appreciative with the service that was provided. Thanks Good Vibrations!

I first met Joe Lee in 2011 when I spent seven days with him as we traveled with the Wreaths Across America convoy from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. Joe conducted himself with the utmost professionalism at each of our many stops along the way. He captured the special moments on audio, video and in still shots enabling me to recount the entire trip as if I was there in person again. This past July, Joe flew to Minneapolis to volunteer as the photographer and videographer for a two day memorial event held in honor of my son, an Army Ranger KIA in 2009. The morning of the first day, my house was struck by lightning and a fire ensued. Joe lost some of his equipment but quickly replaced it on his own so he could still do what he came to. This was a chaotic situation that others may have become discouraged from, but not Joe! He stayed the course and never faltered from his commitment. Joe Lee is not only very professional, he is a very personable guy whose positive presence will add to any event. Highly recommend!

Working with DIM Productions was phenomenal. Coordinating beforehand was simple and straightforward, and during our event they were very accommodating and flexible to our specific requests and needs. They provided our pictures and video quickly after the event, and all the pictures turned out great. We are proudly sharing with friends and family. They also had video at our event, for which they provided an edited cut that captured everything that happened during our day. They even enhanced it in a few ways that we didn't see coming, and so we were appreciative of that. Overall, we had a tremendous experience and recommend DIM Productions to anyone and everyone. Very, very pleased!

I hired Ilya to shoot a video of my band's show at the Queen in Wilmington. I got 6 quotes; Ilya had the most experience shooting bands so I went with him. He did a great job, I got videos from 4 different cameras, all HD, and he got an audio feed from the mixing board on two of the cameras. I would recommend Ilya to other bands who need great quality videos, and I would use him again myself. Good value and very easy to work with; reliable and responsive; plus his stuff looks great. We enjoyed working with Metin on the pool photos for some of our communities. The subject matter wasn't the best but Metin was really able to get the best shots of the pool and neighborhood. We will use Metin in the future for other photo shoots.

From beginning till the end, Elmo showed excellent professionalism. I felt comfortable and trust with him from the first time I met him. He went beyond, and even went and saw the venue before the event to familiarize with the venue. He deserves 10 stars. He even did video of the event! I will use his services again. Please use his services. You will not be disappointed. I am very happy with Elmo. Thank you Elmo for making us feel special.

What a talented photographer and even amazing human being. I hired Ashshanae as my wedding photographer, she was so professional through out the whole process. She went above and beyond to make sure every thing was perfect. She listened to all of my requests and made sure everything was as I wanted it to be. My contract with Ashshanae only included pictures however out of courtesy she even video recorded the ceremony. She was very professional, punctual and responsive. Her work is amazing and I am so glad I choose Ashshanae as our wedding photographer. Thank you Ashshanae!!!

Frank helped us by taking photographs of a few machines we intend to buy. It was a 1 day shoot, and he went back once to repeat a video shoot of one of the machines. He was very accommodating and flexible. He was willing to cooperate and the images were top-notch. Next time we need to do this in the area, we will be sure to give Frank a call.

I hired MJRvisuals to interview two of my clients and create a testimonial video I could use on my site and for other lead generation and marketing purposes. Malcholm and his team delivered this project in spades. One of my clients even stated how good and professional his crew was shooting the footage and mentioned he may even be hiring MJRvisuals in the future for their own corporate video production needs. I highly recommend MJRVisuals for any of your video production needs and will be utilizing them in the future for other projects.

I hired Leslie to do a photo shoot of a company meeting I was hosting in Washington DC. Leslie was great. She was very easy to communicate with in advance - I was coming to an event from out of town and she made it really easy to work with her. She captured great moments and photos turn out really well. She also does a same day delivery of key shots and then had 100s of the event photos edited and ready for me within a week! I recommend Leslie for event photography and will use her if my company is in DC area again.

Chris was amazing! My boyfriend and I just finished a couples photo shoot with him and this is by far the best photo shoot we have ever had. He made us feel so comfortable and we felt like we could be ourselves 100%. He really took capturing the perfect pictures seriously and was open to all of our suggestions. He showed us previews of some of our shots, and they looked beyond amazing. I cannot wait to see the rest. I highly recommend Chris for any kind of photography you want! We will definitely be working with him again!

Miguel took the photos for our son's 5th birthday party and we can't thank him enough for the great work he did. He arrived super early to make sure of the party setup and was very enthusiastic in getting people smile at his camera. Now we have beautiful memories captured that we can enjoy for years to come and a photographer we can count on for future photo shoots or family events.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
